Super Soldier in the City
Chapter 2670 - 2732: Die Once Again
So, what exactly was the person on the other side? The voice was that of a girl, seemingly wearing a green skirt because the black shadow that just flashed by was very clear. Aside from that? Li Yifei came down partly out of curiosity. The Fire Sect went to such great lengths, even willing for the entire sect to die, just to produce this thing. So what exactly is it?
"Did you come just for this purpose?" The voice asked. Li Yifei raised an eyebrow and said, "Yes, that is the purpose. Of course, I also know some things, which makes me even more determined to explore the truth."
The other side fell silent again, but Li Yifei wasn’t in a hurry. The fact that the other side could communicate was already a surprise to Li Yifei, and there has been no conflict, so clearly, this is good.
"Can you save me?" The other side remained silent for a long time before softly speaking, and this time Li Yifei did not hear any roaring sounds, which seems to prove that the matter about roaring was controllable by the other side.
However... Li Yifei was deeply surprised that the other side was actually asking for his help, so he asked, "Are you asking me for help?"
"Yes, I want you to save me!" The other side affirmed.
"I don’t understand. What do you need my help for, or rather, what can I save you from?" Li Yifei cautiously looked ahead while speaking.
The other side fell silent again but quickly said, "I don’t know either, but you are the only person I’ve met after a long, long time, so I have no one else to ask."
"Be specific, at least show yourself so I can see, otherwise why should I save you out of the blue?" Li Yifei said.
"Okay, but you won’t hurt me, right?" The other side asked worriedly.
Li Yifei’s mouth twitched. He came down thinking it would be extremely dangerous, anticipating a major event, at least a fierce battle, but now a girl’s voice was asking him if he wouldn’t hurt her? Li Yifei mentally responded, feeling fearful of harming her, but orally he replied, "Theoretically no, unless you’re hostile and want to harm me."
"I... won’t. Although I feel a kind intimacy from you, which I can’t quite articulate, generally I won’t harm you, and since I’m asking for your help, how could I harm you!" The girl’s voice said.
Li Yifei exhaled, nodded, and said, "No problem, come on out, I’ll see what’s really going on."
"Okay." The other side replied.
Li Yifei then saw the door of the small straw house open by itself without wind, followed by a green shadow appearing inside, making Li Yifei alert. He wasn’t foolish; though verbally trusting the other side, inwardly he remained cautious in case the other side was deceiving him to suddenly attack.
The green shadow was the same as what he had seen before, only then did Li Yifei see what was inside the green shadow. The green shadow was very short, appearing to be only about 1.3 meters or so. Of course, the entire straw house was also very low, which would be difficult for Li Yifei to enter. Within Li Yifei’s field of vision, the green shadow had no legs; it just hovered out.
It’s basically a floating dress! Li Yifei stared for a long time, suddenly realizing that while he anticipated some monster, it turned out to be just a dress. But wait, floating dress... that’s terrifying enough, isn’t it? At this thought, Li Yifei couldn’t help but clench his teeth and ask, "Are you the green dress?"
"No, it’s my dress, and it’s my only dress." The green dress spoke, and Li Yifei saw the dress move as if someone were wearing it, with bright light above. Li Yifei felt a shiver up his spine; he wasn’t cowardly, but he’d never seen such a scene before, even with the highest-level stealth techniques impossible to conceal in front of him, so what exactly is this?
Ghost... spirit? Li Yifei’s mouth twitched. He knew about rumors of ghostly hauntings, but personally had never felt it. For an original atheist to now cultivate to a top expert with immense abilities was already miraculous, does he now have to face ghosts?
This is seeing a ghost. What does it mean to "seem"? Li Yifei sarcastically thought inwardly, but he didn’t feel threatened despite the green dress slow-flying toward him, stopping a few meters away.
Li Yifei nodded, "So this is you? But I can’t see or feel you; did you go invisible?"
"Can’t you see me? Oh, seems so. Sorry, I’m low on spiritual power now, so this is all I can do." The dress moved slightly, swaying in the air, sounding a bit regretful.
Li Yifei grunted and said, "If I can’t see it’s fine, but now you should tell me what exactly are you... right? Anyone else would be scared to death seeing this."
"Am I... frightening? Yes, I’m now just a monster, which is why I ask you to save me." The other side’s voice shifted mournfully.
Li Yifei responded, "Monster? I’ve been told you’re something called a ’necro-beast.’ Is that true?"
"Necro-beast? Yes, that’s my name: a dead object but living in another form!" The other side replied.
"Oh, is it... a ghost spirit?"
"No, not a ghost!" The other side affirmed, Li Yifei seemed to see it shake its head, as the dress swayed side to side. Strange, if not a spirit, then what is it? This exceeded Li Yifei’s comprehension, so he continued: "So what is it, a spirit body?"
"A dead object, I don’t know what a spirit body is, but I am not a ghost. I hadn’t really died, or I died but then lived." The other side seemed equally unclear, thus sounding somewhat incoherent.
Li Yifei’s vigilance eased slightly. He furrowed his brow, "Died, yet lived again? You’re confusing me, maybe explain the process?"
"There wasn’t a process; I was originally fourteen years old and still am fourteen. I don’t know how much time has passed, my age has frozen here!"
"Who brought you here? You’re fourteen now, so surely you remember previous events." Li Yifei asked.
"A group took us, locked away in a dark place. There were many of us, all girls around the same age, some from the Huaxia Tribe, some from the Miao Ethnic Group, and other ethnicities. But eventually the cage became less crowded, until only three or four including me were left, then they took me away. I know nothing afterwards, waking up here, so I don’t know how much time has passed outside, only that a very long time has passed!"
"Certainly a long time has passed; by calculation, you could be hundreds of years old." Li Yifei said.
"Hundreds of years?" The other was evidently shocked but quickly calmed down, "No wonder your accent is distinctive, pronunciation too, yet I can understand!"
"So you know nothing other than becoming what you are now. Being this ’necro-beast’ or a revived dead object, as they say."
"I suppose so, I don’t know what else to say, just hope you can save me." The other pleaded mournfully.
If it were a little girl pleading like this, Li Yifei would surely have agreed, but he was cautious about unclear intentions. Should it be some sinister entity deceiving him, that would be terrible, so Li Yifei wouldn’t fully trust.
"I still don’t understand, what does dying and living again mean if you claim not to be a spirit?" Li Yifei cautiously said. The proximity was enough; with such speed, a sudden attack would be challenging for Li Yifei to fend off.
"I can’t say in detail, just a feeling like when a cultivator dies, their body perishes, yet their spirit remains. Not sure if this explains!"
A cultivator’s body dies but the spirit survives? Li Yifei’s eyes instantly widened, not amazed by the method but recalling a word... Primordial Infant, a very ancient term mostly unknown now among cultivators, with few aware, Li Yifei happened to have heard it though remaining an enigma, only knowing it represents another cultivator realm, whether Upper, Middle, or Lower Dantian, all seeking this.
This thing displays a certain level, able to detach from the body, akin to having two lives.
Of course, Li Yifei considered it likely mythical, akin to laypeople imagining flying. Oh right, laypeople might fantasize, but cultivators can’t truly fly, though displaying skills enabling short glide; perhaps not an impossible legend, thus, could the term also have reality achieved?
Li Yifei knew the cultivation techniques faced breakdowns; some emerged hundreds, others thousands of years ago. What transpired during these gaps remains unknown, many seem suddenly lost, untraceable by descendants, with ancestor information equally elusive.
Watching the green skirt, Li Yifei’s eyes flickered; stabilizing his excitement after a while, he solemnly asked, "Are you also a cultivator?"
"Yes, though my cultivation was not high."
"How far did you cultivate back then?" Li Yifei promptly asked.
"My aptitude was excellent, so cultivation was easily successful."
