Chapter 1487 Drink to Your Heart's Content

  • Next Chapter

Grandma Tang had a tiny appetite and was full very quickly. Fang Xiaomei deliberately put on a mysterious air as she took out a delicate little box, then half-pulling, half-supporting Grandma Tang over to the living room, all the while throwing meaningful looks at her husband, Wang Cong.

Although Wang Cong was a bit reluctant, at this point he could only bite the bullet. He picked up a bottle of baijiu in front of him and poured out two cups in one go. He set one in front of Lin Feng, took the other himself, and greeted him with a big smile, “Little Lin, first time meeting, from now on we’re all one family… come on, let’s knock one back to celebrate us getting to know each other!”

Lin Feng glanced at Wang Cong, a trace of a cold smile appearing on his face, and asked mildly, “Uncle by marriage, are you sure you really want to drink with me?”

Tang Zhendong watched Wang Cong and Lin Feng with some curiosity. He felt something was off about both of them. Wang Cong suddenly picking Lin Feng to toast was a bit random, and Lin Feng’s attitude toward Wang Cong was also unusual…

Hearing Lin Feng’s question, Wang Cong suddenly felt a little guilty for no reason. His eyes flickered as he forced a laugh. “It’s just a drink, that’s all. Little Lin, you’re not scared to drink, are you?”

“Who said I don’t dare…” Lin Feng fixed his gaze on Wang Cong and said seriously, “I was just asking Uncle by marriage if you really want to drink to your heart’s content.”

Wang Cong was slightly stunned. Was Lin Feng actually taking the initiative to suggest a drinking contest with him? Wang Cong had been racking his brains for a way to get Lin Feng drunk, so hearing Lin Feng walk himself right into it was exactly what he’d been hoping for.

“Heh… it’s rare to have time off for the New Year, and there’s nothing serious going on these days. If we’re drinking, of course we should drink our fill!” Wang Cong patted Lin Feng’s shoulder with a grin and said casually, “Little Lin, however you want to drink, your uncle by marriage will drink with you that way.”

Right now Wang Cong was feeling pretty pleased with himself, thinking Lin Feng had fallen into his trap. After all, he was a businessman who’d spent years drinking with clients, and his tolerance was much better than the average person’s. Lin Feng, on the other hand, looked like a young guy who probably hadn’t done much social drinking. Even if he was decent, he’d top out at a few cups at most. Wang Cong was confident he could knock Lin Feng out in three to five minutes.

“Then I’ll down mine first to show respect!” Lin Feng gave a slight smile, picked up the glass in front of him, and took a big swig, gulping down the strong Wuliangye in one go. Then, still perfectly composed, he set the empty glass in front of Wang Cong and casually showed it to him.

This was one of those unwritten rules at the drinking table: displaying the empty glass to show you’ve finished, signalling it’s the other person’s turn.

Wang Cong zoned out for a second. He hadn’t expected Lin Feng to drink so cleanly—just one gulp and he’d downed a full cup of baijiu, at least two taels. Was this kid a seasoned drinker, or just a reckless rookie?

“Lin Feng… don’t mess around!” Tang Zhendong frowned slightly, shooting Lin Feng a reproachful look. He’d already accepted Lin Feng’s identity and half-treated him like a son. Seeing Lin Feng ignore his own health to go head-to-head with Wang Cong over alcohol, he was a little worried Lin Feng was being too impulsive and might damage his body.

Tang Rou also watched Lin Feng with some concern, clear worry on her face.

“I’m fine…” Lin Feng smiled at the Tang father and daughter, completely calm, and said lightly, “Uncle by marriage is a man of feeling. If I don’t drink happily with him, he’s definitely going to feel uncomfortable.”

After hearing this, Wang Cong had a vague bad feeling… Why did it suddenly feel like he was the one being played?

Unfortunately, he was already riding a tiger and couldn’t get off. Wang Cong could only grit his teeth and go all in with Lin Feng…

“Gulp, gulp… ah…” Wang Cong tipped his head back and poured, draining the strong baijiu in his glass in three big swallows. He let out a heavy breath, set the glass down, then hurriedly picked up his chopsticks to grab a couple pieces of vegetable, shoved them into his mouth, chewed a few times and swallowed, barely managing to soothe his burning esophagus a little.

However, before Wang Cong had even fully recovered, Lin Feng had already stood up again and refilled both their glasses… The 500-gram bottle of Wuliangye was already close to empty.

“Uncle by marriage, I’ve heard that when people meet for the first time, you’ve got to do three cups! Come on, let’s blow through this second cup!” Lin Feng picked up his glass again and said with a smile, “I’ll still drink mine first to show respect!”

With that, Lin Feng casually downed the second glass… For an Innate expert, using Inner Strength to dissolve the effects of alcohol was child’s play. The liquor hadn’t even reached his stomach before the alcohol was directly broken down into easily absorbed nutrients. How could he possibly get drunk?!

Lin Feng’s expression didn’t change, his smile stayed just as sincere, and he didn’t even burp once. If Wang Cong hadn’t been staring at him the whole time, he might have suspected Lin Feng had secretly poured the drink out.

“Th-this… how is that possible?!” Wang Cong was completely stunned by Lin Feng’s drinking capacity. This definitely wasn’t something a normal person could do. This kid Lin Feng, was he soaked in a wine vat growing up?

Wang Cong was starting to want to chicken out. He shot a bitter look at Fang Xiaomei sitting not far away and thought awkwardly to himself that if he backed down like this, his own tigress at home definitely wouldn’t let him off easy… To hell with it, he could only tough it out!

Wang Cong steeled himself, clenched his teeth, and in one burst of bravado kept pace with Lin Feng for two more cups in a row.

After three cups of liquor in his stomach, Wang Cong was already feeling a bit floaty. The problem was, the one he’d planned to get drunk—Lin Feng—was still acting like nothing had happened… This made Wang Cong start wondering if Lin Feng was actually drinking water!

“Alright… you two, that’s about enough. We’re all family here, why are you making it so formal? Toasting back and forth like this and putting on a whole show?” Tang Zhendong frowned, speaking up with some displeasure.

“Yes, yes… Cousin, my mistake, I shouldn’t have done it this way…” Wang Cong knew he had no way to handle Lin Feng now. Seeing Tang Zhendong offering him a way out, he hurried to climb down while he could…

“Uncle by marriage, that’s where you’re wrong. You were the one who suggested drinking, how can you just casually admit fault now?” The corner of Lin Feng’s mouth curled up, his expression half-smile, half-not, as he said to Wang Cong, “Since you admitted you were wrong, shouldn’t you be penalized with another cup?!”

As he spoke, Lin Feng picked up the bottle again and topped off Wang Cong’s glass…

Now Wang Cong was really dumbfounded. He’d already admitted fault and begged off, yet Lin Feng still wouldn’t let him go?!

“Lin Feng? You kid, why are you being so disobedient?” Tang Zhendong looked at Lin Feng with some dissatisfaction; he really didn’t understand what Lin Feng was getting at.

“Heh… Uncle Tang, actually Uncle by marriage’s intention is very simple. He just has something he wants to say to you, and he wants me drunk so I won’t hear it…” Lin Feng saw Tang Zhendong’s face change and finally chuckled as he explained.

“Uh… h-how did you know…” Slightly tipsy now, Wang Cong couldn’t quite control his mouth. Hearing Lin Feng expose his little scheme, he reflexively blurted out a question back at Lin Feng.
