Chapter 1461: Heavy Responsibilities Lie Ahead (9 Updates)

“Good luck?” Ning Fuxun chuckled, “Lin Feng, thinking like that is wrong. If you only rely on good luck without sufficient strength, it will only bring calamity and not any achievements!”

Lin Feng understood what Ning Fuxun meant. When ordinary citizens win a jackpot, why do they need to accept interviews with their faces covered? It’s because they know they can’t hold onto those riches, fearing that wealth will attract ill-intentioned people and bring trouble.

This also applied to Lin Feng. Even though today he had become the Hong Sect’s provisional Sect Leader, if he suddenly lost his formidable Martial Arts, the other leaders wouldn’t submit and would constantly find excuses to remove Lin Feng from his position, unable to keep his Sect Leader status without enough strength.

“Brother Ning makes a valid point…” Lin Feng agreed with a nod.

“Lin Feng… today I transferred the shares of the Longfeng Martial Hall to you, hoping you won’t forget our original intention!” Ning Fuxun said earnestly as he patted Lin Feng’s shoulder. “When you become the Sect Leader, you must find ways to eliminate the non-compliant aspects within the Hong Sect and purify the entire society. As someone who emerged from within the Hong Sect, I don’t want to see Hong Sect dissipate in the river of history, so I’ve pinned my hopes on you…”

This was what Ning Fuxun truly wanted to tell Lin Feng—all the previous words were just a prelude.

“Don’t worry, Brother Ning; once paid, you must complete the task. I’ll follow through with what you said…” Lin Feng exhaled a circle of smoke and smiled while speaking. “Besides, now that I’ve become the Hong Sect’s Sect Leader, I naturally don’t want Hong Sect to vanish just like that. Those non-compliant aspects, I’ll find a way to make them disappear completely!”

“That’s good! I’m leaving; take care!” Ning Fuxun patted Lin Feng’s shoulder, got into his car, and ordered the driver to drive away.

Lin Feng watched Ning Fuxun depart, then lit a cigarette and smiled wryly as he walked into the Longfeng Martial Hall… Purifying the Hong Sect’s atmosphere is easy to say, but how simple is it in practice?

In today’s Hong Sect, apart from the Longfeng Martial Hall and headquarters’ Zhongyi Martial Hall, there aren’t many brothers from other halls engaging honestly in the Martial Hall business… Given how few people are paying to study Martial Arts anymore, martial halls are essentially unprofitable. More people are choosing to walk the crooked path.

Secretly, Lin Feng had already instructed Xiang Wang to investigate the behaviors of brothers from the Hong Sect’s other halls. Some halls were more restrained, basically controlling the entertainment venues on one or two nearby streets, collecting protection fees and tea money regularly—this was within Lin Feng’s tolerance range. However, some halls directly got involved in operating nearby foot massage parlors, KTVs, etc. Lin Feng could understand if these were operated normally, but the problem was that these outlets supported by Hong Sect halls were often shady and completely unrestrained, which made things awkward!

Bear in mind, Hong Sect’s rule absolutely prohibits subordinates from getting involved in illegal activities, yet now the Hong Sect’s outlets have become the most chaotic spots in Jiangzhou—no wonder Ning Fuxun hoped Lin Feng could change everything. Otherwise, Hong Sect will sooner or later follow in Qingzi Sect’s footsteps!

But for Lin Feng, just how many people’s interests are involved in this, and how much resistance does he have to face to change it?

At that thought, Lin Feng suddenly suspected a possibility… Could this be the real reason Old Man Xu and Mr. Bai supported him to rise to power? Their thoughts might be similar to Ning Fuxun’s: letting him be the Sect Leader is essentially handing him a great gift, then letting him fight for interests?!

“If that’s really the case… I can only say these old guys are too cunning!” Lin Feng smiled, “But I like it!”

Lin Feng walked back into the Longfeng Martial Hall, subconsciously heading to the office where he previously chatted with the Ning family father and daughter. To his surprise, at that moment, Ning Aoxue was holding a bottle of brandy, half-leaning on the desk while drinking, looking at him with an extremely forlorn expression. The bottle was already more than half gone, and her face was flushed, indicating the alcohol had hit her, and her silky eyes exposed an enchanting allure…

Lin Feng furrowed his brows, looking at Ning Aoxue in surprise—what’s gotten into this girl, suddenly binge drinking?

“This is high-proof brandy?! You drank so much on an empty stomach—are you not afraid of dying?!” Lin Feng approached Ning Aoxue and snatched the half bottle from her hand, speaking angrily.

“Give me back the bottle!” Ning Aoxue glared at Lin Feng, stretched her jade hand out trying to get the bottle back.

“You’re crazy…” Lin Feng casually placed the bottle behind him, out of Ning Aoxue’s reach, and held her fragrant shoulders with both hands, asking in a deep voice, “Ning Aoxue, what’s wrong with you?”

Drinking isn’t done like this… high-proof alcohol, even a seasoned drinker could have issues finishing a bottle. Let alone Ning Aoxue, who barely drinks—it could lead to alcohol poisoning if she finished the bottle.

“I just like drinking—is that a crime? Who are you to control me!” Ning Aoxue raised her head and shot Lin Feng a furious glance, gritting her teeth.

Lin Feng was speechless for a moment—has this woman gone mad?! Lin Feng questioned himself, even though he wasn’t anything to Ning Aoxue, as her bodyguard, he couldn’t just let her keep drinking.

“Sit tight while I get you some hot tea!” Lin Feng roughly lifted Ning Aoxue and placed her on the sofa, firmly pressing her down to sit, then angrily brewed tea with boiling water.

Fortunately, the office was equipped with a fully automatic water dispenser and tea leaves. After quickly rinsing the tea set kept in the office, Lin Feng swiftly brewed a cup of hot tea for Ning Aoxue.

“Why do you care… Damn Lin Feng! What gives you the right to control me? My matters have nothing to do with you, even if I die—it doesn’t concern you… you know that!” To Lin Feng’s utmost speechlessness, this time Ning Aoxue didn’t go for the bottle again but instead began crying out on the sofa, accusing him tearfully, her pretty face tear-streaked like a pear blossom drenched in rain, while her fragrant shoulders trembled uncontrollably…

Hot tea in hand, Lin Feng was completely stunned—what happened to Ning Aoxue? She used to always be a cold presence, never so uninhibited as today. Could it be anger from what just happened?

Speaking of which, it didn’t seem like Lin Feng had provoked her—was she mad at her dad?
