Chapter 708: Chapter 313: She Is Xu Yun’s Woman, in Life and in Death
「5:00 PM.」
Xu Yun, Xino, Fu Baoying, and Lin Wanzhou, a group of four, rode together in one car to the hotel where Zhang Jin and his wife were hosting the birthday party.
Originally, Zhang Jin and his wife had only planned for a simple, lively family gathering.
But starting yesterday, he began receiving calls, and the guest list inexplicably swelled.
First, Xu Yun and Lin Wanzhou confirmed they were coming, though he didn’t know how many people they’d be bringing.
Next, Ruan Qingnian’s family also said they were coming.
He could understand Ruan Shaolai attending, since Xu Yun would be there.
But his father, Ruan Guohua, was also coming? That didn’t make sense. The man was the second-largest shareholder of Huayi. Why would he deign to attend a birthday celebration for Zhang Jin’s mother?
On Hong Kong Island, their apartment was only a little over 100 square meters. They couldn’t afford a nice villa.
With so many new guests added to their list of friends from the entertainment industry, their home was no longer big enough. They had no choice but to move the party to a hotel at the last minute.
So, they started setting up early, waiting for everyone to arrive.
But as he waited, he started to feel that something was off.
The first guests to arrive weren’t Xu Yun and Ruan Qingnian’s group, but the Xiang Family—the powerful owners of Cai Shaofen’s film company.
The entire family came together, bringing gifts and offering their congratulations.
This stunned Zhang Jin and Cai Shaofen, who quickly and personally showed them to their seats.
Then, a steady stream of Hong Kong Island tycoons—people they didn’t know at all, people they would normally never even have a chance to meet—began to arrive to congratulate the matriarch.
They came from all walks of life, and the gifts they brought were far from cheap.
The scene left Zhang Jin and his wife feeling utterly overwhelmed by the attention.
In truth, he didn’t know that most of these people were from the Horse Racing Club, along with members of other top-tier clubs.
There were also some major figures from the underworld.
Zhang Jin and his wife’s friends from the industry—directors, celebrities, and screenwriters—were just as shocked as the couple when they saw the tycoons they had only ever heard about or seen on television.
What had they possibly done to deserve an invitation to a gathering like this?
Everyone was also wondering the same thing: since when did Zhang Jin and his wife have such a vast and powerful network on Hong Kong Island?
After all, the people arriving now were all considered top-tier elite families on Hong Kong Island.
Two of them were even renowned high-ranking government officials.
In just one short hour, the spacious hall was filled with exceptionally high-caliber guests.
This made the hotel staff grow extremely cautious.
Even the owner came out personally to greet them.
Every single person here tonight was a major figure, someone they could not afford to offend.
The owner found a moment to pull Zhang Jin and his wife aside and said with some displeasure, “Mr. Zhang, you didn’t mention that your guests would be this distinguished.”
“I didn’t know either. They all just showed up on their own.”
Zhang Jin was in a panic. Gritting his teeth, he said, “Later, switch all the dishes to your absolute best. And bring out the best wine, too.”
“Understood.”
Cai Shaofen stood to the side, secretly glancing at the crowd in the hall. She asked worriedly, “Honey, what do you think is going on today? Why have so many big shots suddenly shown up?”
“They’re probably all here for President Xu.”
Zhang Jin shook his head. “I can’t think of any other reason.”
“I never expected President Xu’s network on Hong Kong Island to be this extensive.”
Cai Shaofen asked tentatively, “What do you think he’s really here on Hong Kong Island to do? Do you think all these tycoons showing up in a swarm has something to do with his business?”
“How would I know? I haven’t heard about anything major happening on Hong Kong Island these past few days.”
“There was something.”
Cai Shaofen reminded him, “Didn’t you see the news yesterday? The police busted an illegal organization and rescued a large number of children. More than ten criminals died at the scene.”
“What does that have to do with President Xu?”
Zhang Jin couldn’t help but laugh. “He’s a businessman. Don’t tell me you think he was involved in that!”
“You have a point. I’m probably overthinking it.”
Just as the two were talking, Xu Yun’s group walked in from outside.
Seeing them, the couple immediately hurried over to greet them warmly. “President Xu! Brother Lin!”
“Congratulations, congratulations.”
Xu Yun had Fu Baoying and Xino hand over the gifts he had prepared. He smiled and said, “Just a small token of our appreciation. We wish the elder good health and a long life.”
Cai Shaofen glanced at them: one gold and one jade, both bracelets.
‘They probably weren’t cheap!’
“This is from me.”
Lin Wanzhou also handed over his gift. It wasn’t overly expensive—just some standard bird’s nest—but it was still worth at least several thousand, if not tens of thousands.
“Thank you, thank you.”
The couple accepted the gifts and handed them to their assistant before saying, “Let’s head inside. The food is all ready, and Young Master Ruan has arrived as well.”
“Alright, let’s go.”
And so, led by Zhang Jin and his wife, Xu Yun and his group entered the main hall.
“Wow, so many people!”
Xu Yun was slightly surprised. He teased Zhang Jin, “This is quite the grand occasion you’ve got here.”
“They’re all unexpected guests.”
Zhang Jin explained awkwardly, “I’m not even sure what happened myself.”
“Many of them are from the Horse Racing Club, along with other big shots from Hong Kong Island.”
Fu Baoying leaned in and explained quietly, “They’re most likely all here for you today.”
“So I have this much face on Hong Kong Island, huh.”
Xu Yun smiled, his expression calm and composed as he walked forward.
‘Since everyone wants to stare, I might as well let them have a good look.’
‘It’s not like I’m ugly or have anything to hide!’
As Xu Yun walked ahead, Fu Baoying and Xino followed closely, flanking him on his left and right.
Lin Wanzhou fell back a single step, his eyes vigilantly scanning the surroundings.
