Chapter 1416: Chapter 1406: Regaining Face
Meanwhile, Zhang Mengmeng and Wen Xiaobai had already rushed into the house, unable to hold back anymore, and for a while the two girls’ screams kept coming from inside.
Wow, the decor here is amazing! Wow, the sofa’s so soft! The bathroom’s huge! I love the swimming pool!
Jiang Cheng looked helplessly at the two women. They’re both already in their late twenties, how are they still acting like little girls? Seriously...
But he had to admit, the renovation of this house really was fantastic! The overall style of the house was "White Story" as the main theme, with a design that was simple yet full of personality. The core style was based on white, combining white with steel structures, squares and circles, giving the whole house a strong sense of layering instead of a dull, oppressive feeling.
On the wall of the lobby on the first floor hung a number of exaggerated abstract paintings, highlighting its artistic flair.
The overall color tone was soft and harmonious, the accessories generous and steady, making Jiang Cheng extremely satisfied with this house.
The house already had all the basic essential furniture, like sofas and a dining table, but some home appliances were still missing, so the afternoon’s task was crystal clear.
Jiang Cheng made a call to Old Ma and had him find a home service company to send a few people over to clean the place up. After all, nobody had lived here yet, so it had accumulated some dust.
Then Jiang Cheng headed out with Zhang Mengmeng and Wen Xiaobai to buy home appliances. This time the three of them only took one car; no need to drive three cars for this.
They arrived at the biggest appliance mall in Q Mansion, Jia Mei Electrical Appliance Mall. As soon as they walked in, they were greeted by a dazzling array of appliances, so many that it was overwhelming. Jiang Cheng only cared about performance when it came to appliances, so he left the appearance side of things to Zhang Mengmeng and Wen Xiaobai to handle.
The three of them picked for quite a while and still hadn’t found anything they liked, though you couldn’t really blame them.
Due to the era they’d come from, Jiang Cheng and Zhang Mengmeng looked at the current appliances pretty much like they were looking at trash; and as for Wen Xiaobai, she had never used high-end appliances before, so she honestly had no idea where to even start.
The three really couldn’t figure it out, so they waved a hand and called over a sales attendant. "Sir, ladies, hello, is there anything I can help you with?" After all, this was a big mall, so they still had to show basic service attitude.
"We want to buy some appliances but we really don’t know how to choose. How about this, just recommend the most expensive ones for us to take a look at." Jiang Cheng said, his whole body radiating that rich-guy aura.
"Alright, sir, may I ask what kinds of appliances you need?" the salesperson asked, not thinking much of it. Every now and then a rich customer would come in and specify they only wanted the pricey stuff.
"Not that many, just a fridge, color TV, air conditioner, washing machine, water heater, computer, and... uh... let’s start with those. Can’t think of anything else for now." Jiang Cheng thought for a moment as he spoke. For the moment, that should be enough.
At this point, the attendant’s mouth was almost forming an O shape.
"You... you’re sure you want the most expensive models for all of these?" the attendant asked again to confirm. He’d seen rich customers before, but someone this extravagant, this was a first!
"Yeah, all of them, the priciest, the best." Jiang Cheng said, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "Please wait a moment, I’ll go organize the information for you." The attendant said, then led Jiang Cheng and the others to a reception room, asked someone to serve them tea, and went off to compile the data on the appliances Jiang Cheng wanted.
At the moment, there was also another man and woman in the reception room. The man had a huge belly, was balding, and his face was greasy—your standard sleazy middle-aged guy. The woman, on the other hand, was in a tight, sexy black leather outfit that showed off her figure, with heavy, garish makeup on her face and an expression full of seduction as she coquettishly clung to the man.
"Honey, I’ve set my heart on that big TV, okay? Buy it for me, pretty please, I really, really want it..." The woman whined as she spoke, drawing circles on the middle-aged man’s chest with her finger.
"You want it?" The middle-aged man’s face was full of a smile.
Just as Jiang Cheng and the other two were almost unable to stand watching anymore, the attendant finally came back.
"Sir, here’s some information on the appliances you asked for. Please take a look." With that, he handed Jiang Cheng a sheet. Jiang Cheng took it and began to read.
Right then, the middle-aged man who’d just been enjoying the show called the attendant over and said a few words to him. But before they’d exchanged more than a couple of sentences, the two of them seemed to get into an argument.
"Sir, there’s really nothing we can do. The last unit has indeed already been reserved by someone else." The attendant said apologetically.
"I don’t care, we were the ones who saw this TV first! How can you sell it to someone else! I’m telling you, if you don’t give me a satisfactory explanation today, you can forget about keeping this job!" The balding middle-aged man barked, his tone fierce.
Jiang Cheng quickly figured out what was going on. So the big TV that the balding middle-aged guy wanted to buy to please his woman had ended up being bought by someone else. Feeling like he’d lost face in front of the woman, he flew into a rage out of humiliation and started pressuring the attendant. Looked like this middle-aged guy had some kind of backing too.
Jiang Cheng glanced at the slip in his hand; looked like the last color TV was now in his pocket. Thinking of this, he stood up and walked forward.
Zhang Mengmeng and Wen Xiaobai took one look and instantly knew Jiang Cheng was up to no good, so they just sat there, wearing a "watching a good show" expression.
Jiang Cheng walked over and patted the receptionist on the shoulder. "Hi, take me to pay, will you? Oh, and these color TVs and stuff, you can deliver them to my place, right?" Jiang Cheng deliberately added one more question.
Color TV? As expected, when she heard Jiang Cheng’s words, the woman suddenly thought of something, snatched the slip from his hand, and took a look.
"Oh, you’ve got some nerve. Didn’t you tell me this TV was already sold to someone else? But the payment isn’t even done yet! I don’t care, you can only sell this TV to me, otherwise I’ll file a complaint against you!" The moment the woman saw that the first item on Jiang Cheng’s slip was exactly the TV she had her eye on, she instantly lost her cool. She’d bent over backwards to please that old guy just to get the chance to buy this TV, and now they weren’t selling it to her and were about to sell it to someone else? How was that acceptable.
"Honey, look at them, how is this not bullying me?" The flashy woman shook the man’s arm, looking all pitiful and wronged.
What could possibly be more important than face in front of a woman!
It’s just a TV, of course he’d say buy and then buy. If it made the woman unhappy, that’d be a huge loss. Thinking this, the man spoke up. "I’m willing to pay double the price. Sell this TV to me." The man said. "That won’t do, sir, this TV was reserved by this gentleman first..." The receptionist wanted to say more, but Jiang Cheng patted his shoulder.
"It’s fine. Trying to compete with me on money? I’ve got plenty of cash. You want to bid against me, yeah? I’ll play along! I’ll pay three times!" Jiang Cheng said.
"Four times!" The balding middle‑aged man didn’t even think, immediately followed up.
"Eight times!" Jiang Cheng refused to yield in the slightest.
"Sixteen times!" The balding middle‑aged man blurted out without thinking, but the moment the words left his mouth he felt a bit of regret. This price was getting way too high, kind of not worth it. It’s just a TV. Next time you raise the price, I just won’t follow. Let me disgust this arrogant brat first, the balding middle‑aged man thought.
But to his surprise, Jiang Cheng didn’t continue raising the price. Instead, he smiled cheerfully and said, "Boss, you really are loaded, I truly admire that. My capabilities are limited, so I’ll have to give it up. Where do I pay? I’ll buy the rest of the stuff." The last sentence was directed at the receptionist.
Anyone with half a brain could see the balding middle‑aged man had just been played by Jiang Cheng. Zhang Mengmeng and Wen Xiaobai were already laughing so hard on the side they were doubled over, and the receptionist felt extremely satisfied inside too—this counted as venting his own anger as well. Who told those two to be so aggressive before.
"You punk, you dare play me?" The middle‑aged man finally processed what had happened and glared at Jiang Cheng, furious.
"How would I dare mess with you, boss, I really am broke." Jiang Cheng deliberately pulled a bitter face as he spoke, but to the balding middle‑aged man it was pure mockery.
"You kid, very good, very good..." The balding middle‑aged man ground out between his teeth, but before he could finish, the receptionist cut him off.
"Sir, since you’re willing to pay such a high price, please come with me to make the payment." The receptionist said coolly. That line made the man even more embarrassed.
"...Fine, you’re all real good. Just you wait!" The man was already boiling with rage. He grabbed the woman beside him and stalked off. The woman wanted to say something more, but when she saw the look on his face, she shut her mouth. A smart woman knows when to talk and butter a man up, and when to shut up and be a little lamb.
"Hahahaha!" The reception room echoed with the unrestrained laughter of Zhang Mengmeng and Wen Xiaobai.
Listening to the laughter behind him, the man really couldn’t hold it in anymore. He pulled his phone from his pocket.
"Hello, big bro, it’s me. I got pushed around, I can’t swallow this anger, I want to get my face back." The balding man said into the phone.
"Okay, got it. Send me the address." A gloomy male voice came from the other end, said a few short words, then hung up.
The balding man knew his big bro was going to make a move; that joy in his heart was something else. "Hmph, dared to play me, did you. I’m definitely going to make you pay the price."
What most people in J County didn’t know was that, at this very moment, in the conference room of Junwei Mansion, all the top leaders in the county had gathered, not a single one absent. And sitting in the head seat was a man in his sixties—none other than Elder Xu, who had just left Q Mansion.
After Elder Xu parted ways with Jiang Cheng at noon, he rushed straight to the County Assembly Office. There, he convened all the top brass in the county, with only one goal.
"Tencent Company in Q Mansion is currently the most valued company in the region. One of its shareholders, Jiang Cheng—I don’t want to hear any news of him being wronged. This is the region’s decision. I think you all understand." Elder Xu sat in the main seat, his eyes full of authority as he swept his gaze over everyone present.
Not a single person dared meet his eyes; they all nodded repeatedly. Elder Xu had spoken—who would dare go against him? And his meaning couldn’t be clearer: this isn’t just someone Elder Xu is covering, this is someone the whole region is covering! Someone the region has decided to protect—who would dare touch him? That’s basically a giant panda!
