Chapter 1310: Chapter 1309: Nothing Out of the Ordinary

"Our boss would be very pleased to see such a beautiful girl."

The man said, looking at Qiu Qingqing.

Qiu Qingqing still had no expression, but Jiang Cheng vaguely felt that she was angry. "Are you working for someone else?" Jiang Cheng asked.

"That’s none of your business. First, think about how to keep your own life," the man said with a sinister smile, looking at Jiang Cheng.

"Let’s go now," the man said, looking at Jiang Cheng and Qiu Qingqing.

"No, you said you’d only take this woman away." Xiaoqing suddenly stopped the man, saying.

The man chuckled, looking at Xiaoqing mockingly, "What? Taking a fancy to him? Well, you don’t stand a chance now." He looked at Jiang Cheng, "You were someone who was disgruntled with them from the start."

After hearing this, Xiaoqing seemed even angrier, "You go back on your word. Aren’t you afraid of me complaining?" Xiaoqing said.

"If you manage to see the boss, go ahead and tell him." The man chuckled and said.

"Brother Jiang, you don’t have to go. I know you’re capable; you don’t have to go." Xiaoqing suddenly walked to Jiang Cheng’s side and looked at his sleeve.

Jiang Cheng pulled his sleeve out from Xiaoqing’s hand, "No need for your concern."

Xiaoqing suddenly seemed stupefied, staring blankly at Jiang Cheng, her eyes lifeless.

Qiu Qingqing also looked at Jiang Cheng, still not expecting him to speak like this suddenly. She thought Jiang Cheng usually gave people face, but now he acted like this; she couldn’t tell if he truly understood Xiaoqing’s feelings for him.

Jiang Cheng didn’t actually consider the peculiar thoughts of girls; he just thought, given their adversarial relationship, and now that he fully understood Xiaoqing’s intent, he simply wanted to draw a clear line, regardless of whether she had just mentioned what Qiu Qingqing was here for.

"Shall we go, you two?" The man next to them suddenly said, "I don’t need to tie you up, do I?"

Jiang Cheng said nothing, pulling Qiu Qingqing forward. She looked at their held hands for a long time but said nothing, following along. It was so dark that neither could see the other’s flushed face.

Once outside, Jiang Cheng simply walked forward; the man behind them said nothing, just allowing Jiang Cheng to lead the way. Jiang Cheng was curious if he wasn’t afraid of them escaping. Or was he just too confident?

He really thinks there’s no way to escape.

As they just exited the village, Jiang Cheng saw a fork ahead, but he had no idea which path to take. He looked around.

"Left," the man behind suddenly voiced.

Jiang Cheng discovered he was only two meters away from him and Qiu Qingqing, leisurely following them. He appeared as if following voluntarily. Jiang Cheng tightened his grip on the bomb water in his pocket. Should he use it when the man wasn’t paying attention or wait until they reached their destination? Jiang Cheng wasn’t sure.

"Stop messing with the useless stuff," the man suddenly said. "I see it. Use it later."

Jiang Cheng suddenly stopped, and he couldn’t deny his nervousness; his palms were sweating.

"I’m only responsible for getting you there. So, don’t increase my workload," the man said to Jiang Cheng.

It was then Jiang Cheng saw under the man’s hat, unsurprisingly, he looked at most in his twenties, but a scar stretched across his forehead to his left cheek, adding a touch of menace to his otherwise delicate face.

Jiang Cheng slowly released his hand from his pocket, looking at Qiu Qingqing beside him, whose hands were also sweaty. Though he didn’t know if she knew about his actions, the man before them was indeed very capable. Jiang Cheng didn’t know how he knew, but this person was definitely unfathomable.

"Let’s go, we’re almost there?" the man said with a smile, which seemed eerie in the dark night.

Jiang Cheng slowly took a deep breath, turned around, and continued moving forward.

In the pitch-black environment, there wasn’t a hint of light. Jiang Cheng’s vision was unaffected by the darkness, so he could clearly see a thicket ahead, a difficult path to tread on. Jiang Cheng glanced at Qiu Qingqing’s sneakers. They should manage, but it would still be tiring, he thought.

When actually traversing the thicket, Jiang Cheng still felt the ruggedness here. He himself walked with a stagger. It’s evident Qiu Qingji beside him was struggling.

Jiang Cheng tried to support Qiu Qingqing, taking a bit more of her weight onto himself.

After about ten minutes of walking, they finally reached the end of this section.

Jiang Cheng vaguely saw some light ahead, resembling the kind used during nighttime construction at work sites. He slowly walked towards the house he spotted, seeing from afar that this place covered an area almost the size of a school. It appeared not too different from his university campus.

But the scene before Jiang Cheng was truly shocking — there were many people here, mostly males, almost all shirtless, with exposed shoulders, digging at the ground. Nearly a hundred people encircled a massive pit, seemingly trying to dig deeper. The lights Jiang Cheng saw earlier likely came from lamps above these people.

Nearby, there was a row of buildings, appearing newly constructed.

These people seemed exhausted, and among them were a few women. From their appearance, they seemed to work non-stop, day and night. The younger ones were only in their teens, while the older ones had white hair. A few men in black, looking robust, were supervising — essentially monitoring and coercing them. Suddenly, a man collapsed.

Jiang Cheng glanced over; the man on the ground looked emaciated, almost bones covered by skin. He lay there with a darkened face. The people beside him put down their tools and rushed to his side.

More people stood, afraid to speak, only continuing their work with the tools in hand.

Just then, several gunshots rang out, startling Jiang Cheng. He looked to find the man next to him holding a gun; the man on the ground had already been shot dead. The people nearby were all terrified.

Seeing such a bloody scene, Jiang Cheng felt it was gruesome and quickly covered Qiu Qingqing’s eyes. But she nonchalantly brushed his hand away. Jiang Cheng saw she had clearly witnessed the event, yet her eyes remained clear, showing no discomfort.

Those who had been around the now-deceased man returned to their places, appearing more fearful. None seemed too surprised. This scene was likely common here.

The dead man was dragged away, and the area returned to its previous state. No one shed a tear for the man’s death.

"Afraid?" the man behind Jiang Cheng suddenly spoke. "Don’t worry, you won’t be treated like this," he reassured.

Jiang Cheng vaguely sensed that these people’s purpose was the White Flower Stone. And those he saw during the day were probably among these people.
