Chapter 758 - 758: Flora's Mother
“Chulhu?”
Nathan suddenly heard a voice coming from his side, waking him up.
“What’s that?” Flora tilted her head in confusion.
“Huh?” Nathan’s heart skipped a beat. Although Flora pronounced it differently as she wasn’t used to it, Nathan still understood what she meant.
“Did I say it aloud?” Nathan blinked his eyes a few times.
“Yes. You say something about Cul-hu?” Flora nodded. “What is that?”
“It’s nothing. It’s just a local story. When I was a kid, it was said there was a monster hiding in the ocean called Cthulhu. It’s probably to scare the children.” Nathan shrugged.
“Oh!” Flora nodded in understanding as she brushed away the thought. May, on the other hand, secretly observed his expression. She had a feeling that Nathan was intentionally hiding something.
‘Now that I think about it, there are a lot of stories about Cthulhu. Though, the one that was popular was about him hibernating in a hidden city under the ocean. He was the source of the constant subconscious anxiety for all mankind.
‘I wonder if we venture the ocean to reach another continent, would we actually encounter such a being? It would have been funny.
‘Then again, the aliens are almighty. With the black parasite cell taking over them, I wonder if the outer gods have realized that they’re doomed and send Cthulhu to another planet just to tell them to do something.
‘Hahahaha. That would have been funny, but at the same time, mortifying. After all, there are so many strong outer gods like Azathoth. Then again, it sounds so plausible, especially after all the experience I have in this world.
‘In the end, we know too little about the aliens right now. Even with the knowledge I have, we don’t know about their situation. In fact, most aliens I have fought so far are basically low level aliens. Compared to the ‘named’ aliens, they were much weaker.’
Nathan couldn’t rule out the possibility, but at the same time, worrying about everything would just make him hesitate to make judgment.
Hence, he chose to ignore it for the time being.
It took them fifteen minutes before they reached the mansion, which was located near the beach.
“We’ve arrived.” May hurriedly opened the door for them, showing the mansion.
“Hmm.” Nathan wanted to check the mansion first, but as Flora came out of the carriage, a cheerful voice approached them.
“Floorrraaa.”
“M-Mother?!” Flora was taken aback, but a mature lady suddenly appeared in the corner of Nathan’s vision and hugged Flora.
Unlike Flora, the lady had brown hair. However, Nathan could see that the pair of blue eyes Flora had come from her. It was like the blue of the ocean.
‘So, this person is Flora’s mother, Rena Ivorial.’ Nathan gradually came out of the carriage.
“Oh my.” She smiled, not showing the aura that befitted her status. Then again, she wasn’t the queen, so it might be the reason for her cheerfulness. And Flora definitely got it from her.
“Hello, elder sister… Ahem, I mean, madam. I’m Nathan.” Nathan politely introduced himself.
“Elder sister?” She covered her mouth in surprise.
“Ahaha. Please don’t worry about it. I made a mistake. You looked so young, so I thought you were Flora’s elder sister. I almost forgot the one word Flora said to call you.” Nathan smiled.
“Aren’t you a sweet talker?” She chuckled behind her hand.
Flora looked at Nathan with a judging gaze. He had never said something that sweet to her.
“I have heard about you. It’s rare for Flora to mention a boy’s name in her letter. Although I’m curious about it, I think we should come inside first to avoid grabbing everyone’s attention.”
“Yes.” Nathan nodded.
They hurriedly escaped from everyone’s gaze.
Once inside, Nathan took out the bag that Vivian had given him.
“This is not much, but I hope you’ll like it.”
“Oh my, how polite.” She gracefully nodded. “I can smell some sweet aroma from here.”
“They are herbs from my teacher.”
“Your Teacher?”
“Yes. She goes by the name Vivian Lorelei.”
“Oh!” Her eyes brightened. It seemed she liked the present a lot and had already understood what kind of herbs were inside the bag.
After thinking about it, Nathan had realized that this was how Vivian actually got the funding for her research.
“I’m sorry for not really keeping up with the news around the kingdom.” She smiled wryly. “However, since it’s the product of Lady Vivian, it must be high quality. You have got a great teacher.”
Nathan looked shocked for a moment, realizing the extent of Vivian’s connection. She was the vice principal of the Frexia Academy, so that status alone would give her a lot of connections.
On top of that, she was a great researcher. Her reputation was also among the best. And after meeting Flora’s mother, he realized that Vivian’s connection among nobles was extraordinary.
While the lady of the house didn’t hold as much power as the head of the family, they still had a considerable amount of power.
With enough numbers, they would form a terrifying power.
It was no wonder Vivian wanted him to not rely on her and form his own connection. With this much connection, while it was true that Nathan could grasp some benefits, he might end up getting controlled by them.
On the other hand, if he started from scratch, he would be able to learn from any mistakes. Of course, she introduced one connection from time to time.
The more he looked at it, the more terrifying Vivian was.
“Now that I think about it, I have heard the name lately… Where was it…?” Rena squinted her eyes while looking down. “Ah! The cloud repelling device! Wait. Are you…”
Instead of Nathan, it was Flora who replied to her. “Yes. How can you not know this, Mother? He is that Nathan.”
“Oh my. I apologize for my rudeness. You are the savior of the kingdom, so as the king’s wife, I’d like to thank you for your contribution.”
Flora let out a sigh before hearing a bell ring so loud that it reached all the way to the mansion.
