Chapter 533 Breaking Through (Bonus)
“How is the situation?” The minister asked.
“Yes, sir. There is indeed a tunnel beyond that point. It’s very long, but we haven’t identified it further to avoid alarming the aliens. We haven’t gone to the other tunnels because they’re still filled with aliens.”
“I see.” The minister crossed his arms. “This is going to be a bit troublesome. How many tunnels have been discovered?”
“Only 13 tunnels.”
“Like the first report, huh?” The minister turned to Nathan. “Kill them all?”
Nathan nodded in agreement. “Yeah. Clean up the tunnel and continue checking the distance between the end and the other one. Confirm whether all 13 tunnels have the other end or not.
“The problem is when we attack, since we need to synchronize the attack with other tunnels.”
“Indeed.” The minister turned to the commander. “Give 500 soldiers for each tunnel. We still have time, so I don’t want any casualty.
“Have the rest of the soldiers as the reserve army. In addition, scout the area around this place. Because we might have to fight against a lot of aliens after reaching the end of the tunnel, it’s better to have them get some fight before that.”
“Understood.” The commander acknowledged the order.
“Also, I have a familiar who can heal people, so if you need some help, I can help you. He can’t regrow a limb, but healing someone who is close to death is possible,” added Nathan casually.
“…” The commander widened his eyes, wondering if Nathan understood what kind of overpowered ability it was.
“You’re going to help? That’s better. We can ensure zero casualties like this.” The minister raised his eyebrows.
“Well, I won’t be here all the time, but yes.” Nathan nodded.
“Good. Arrange it.” The minister nodded to the commander.
“Yes, sir.” The commander saluted before taking his leave.
The minister then turned to the people dispatched by Marquis Reyzar. “Tell your people to get ready to inspect the tunnel. If possible, make a map of the tunnel, since some tunnels are connected.”
“Yes, sir.”
Now that there were only the two of them left, the minister continued, “I might have to split your group. We have enough soldiers, but not summoners.”
“I understand. You can split us into six. This should solve the problems.”
“Yes. It’s unfortunate that not a lot of our summoners can kill a mature class alien. Those who could have been dispatched to the frontline.” The minister nodded.
They began arranging the people together. Normally, he would discuss such a thing with an expert like the current marshall or Sullivan.
However, this was the first time he could have a conversation like this with someone so young.
It was clear that Nathan was lacking in experience. Even though he was overwhelmingly good at the what-if situation, he had a hard time moving the army. After all, his strategy was much more organized and complex, which made it close to impossible to move a large army according to his arrangement.
The war minister gave him some input from his experience, polishing their plans even further.
Nathan adjusted the knowledge he got from novels with reality.
Still, the war minister actually acknowledged Nathan that in terms of what-if situations, even he couldn’t best him.
After a few hours, they finally got a solid plan. The commander had also finished arranging his subordinates as well and scattered the summoners across all thirteen tunnels.
…
The aliens were working on the tunnel. But for some reason, the soil and rock had been piling up behind them as the aliens that were supposed to transport all this waste outside hadn’t gone back to pick them up. Experience new stories on empire
Unfortunately for them, it wasn’t going to happen.
They heard the screeching sound of other aliens, which alerted them.
Without hesitation, they stopped everything they worked on and headed to see the commotion. If there was an enemy, they would join the fight.
And it was there. They could see a small light in the distance, which meant there were humans entering this tunnel.
Without hesitation, the aliens sped up to kill the intruders.
Unfortunately for them, when they were halfway toward the light source, they suddenly heard a clicking sound of a blade.
The alien turned their head around, seeing the gleam on the blade. The alien abruptly turned around, but the soldier who had been hiding in the dark swiftly beheaded them, giving them no chance to fight back.
And Nathan was one of the people who stood near the light source.
“Clear. We’ve found the end of this tunnel.” The soldier reported.
“I will check it.” One of the summoners dispatched by Marquis Reyzar immediately moved forward while summoning his familiar, trying to see whether there was another tunnel on the other side.
Nathan took his time coming to the dead end as Anubis was standing beside him, tending to the wounded. “Good work. How is it? Is there a tunnel on the other side?”
The summoner nodded with a grim expression. “Yes. There is a tunnel. It’s not that far. It seems they have almost finished this tunnel.”
Nathan crossed his arms. “That’s good. Let’s go back, Captain Lance.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Have the soldiers patrol this area. If any other areas break through first, we will immediately destroy the remaining path and clear up the tunnel before advancing. Have the soldiers on standby.”
“Yes, sir.”
Nathan and the others had been fulfilling their roles as the main summoners for their respective groups.
Even Noelle had returned after twelve hours. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem she wanted to reveal her familiar yet, not that it was needed here.
…
Eight days after the tunnel discovery, one of the tunnels finally had a sign of breaking.
“!!!” The soldiers who were stationed at the end of the tunnel looked at each other. “Inform them that we have heard the crack.”
One of the soldiers hurriedly ran back while the rest took out their swords. The tunnel was dark, so they extinguished the torch for a moment, only following the sound.
The crackling sound of the rock hastened their heartbeat, but they remained calm and silent until that crumbling sound echoed in their ears.
The sound of the rock sliding down was the sign of their operation. In that instant, the one who held the torch immediately lit it up, revealing the soldiers as well as twelve aliens on the other side.
“!!!” The aliens and the soldiers were staring at each other in surprise, but because the soldiers had been expecting them the whole time, they were the first ones making their move, cutting down all the aliens in rapid succession.
