Chapter 1250: Infiltration
Chapter 1250: Infiltration
“Ahhh…”
“Haaa!”
The entire hall was filled with screams and moans. However, all of them had blank expressions, as though they were not fully aware of what had really happened.
If one took a closer look, there was a table in the middle of the hall, emitting incense.
But what was more sickening were the tables filled with meat. They devoured the meat as if there were no tomorrow.
“…” Nathan looked at this hall with disgust. Mae warned him, ’Master. We should get away from this hall. It’s a similar incense that is used in a brothel, but this is much more powerful. Even though you have a high resistance because you are a summoner, inhaling too much will definitely affect you.’
Nathan nodded. Now that he had to infiltrate, he recalled Fenrir and replaced him with Mae. Mae would apply her illusion to camouflage his existence.
He entered a much deeper area.
Two guards were standing fiercely in front of a double door. Both guards were summoners, but they were not strong. At most, they were at the level of a crystal weapon summoner.
So, Nathan walked past them and opened the gate casually. Mae’s illusion made it look like no one had passed them and opened the doors they were guarding.
Once inside, he could see several paths.
’Where should we go? According to Fenrir, there is an opponent of your level hiding somewhere in this place. It might be the enemy boss, so I think if you want to find him right away, it will be on the higher floors.’
’Let’s find the doctor first. People might end up getting locked in their basements. If there is no doctor here, then we can just find him once we deal with the people here.’
’Understood.’ Mae changed the illusion a bit to adjust to the current plan.
Then, Nathan continued downward.
As he predicted, he could hear people screaming, followed by a man’s voice. “Stop it! Why are you doing this? What you are doing right now is a crime punishable by death.”
“Shut up. How about you be the one doing this?”
“You better kill me. I won’t do such a thing even if you threaten me.”
“How long are you going to be like that? Look at how thin you are.”
Nathan couldn’t help but furrow his eyebrows. He took a peek into the corridor.
The basement turned out to be similar to a prison. There were many cells that contained humans.
Most of the humans were looking down while hugging their own legs. Their expressions had gone blank, but some of them still looked alive, only to find the current situation more horrifying.
Nathan took a deep breath before moving closer to the source of the voice.
He didn’t find anybody in the corridor, but he found where the sound originated.
Hence, he sneaked toward the two cells. No one had noticed him yet, so everything had been smooth sailing.
Nathan glanced inside one cell and saw a middle-aged man. The middle-aged man was extremely thin. In some areas, there was next to nothing other than bones and skin. He was severely malnourished and terrified.
He was inside with some people, but none of them were as responsive as him.
Then, he took a peek into the other cell, which made him feel like vomiting.
He had killed a lot of people, but this was probably the first time he had seen something of this level.
Inside this cell was similar to a slaughterhouse. He could see people’s skin hanging around the room together with some meat. Even though some of them had been chopped off, some still resembled a body part.
There was a person on the operating table. It was this person who screamed earlier, but after losing half of its body, the scream stopped.
’I have read a lot of apocalypse stories that lead to cannibalism, but I have never been so sick as to witness it with my own eyes. They truly toned down their narratives…’ Nathan muttered inwardly.
’Shall we kill them, Master? How about saving these people? Will we be able to do it without getting noticed? I don’t think so.’
Nathan thought for a moment. ’We can still save them. It will make the enemy notice us, but with my space element, we can teleport everyone here outside.
’But we might need some information from these people. That guy might be quite weak, but he has the clearest eyes among these people.’
’Understood. I will adjust my illusion so that he will be the only person to see you. But first, we have to eliminate the threat.’ Mae agreed.
’Yes. Fortunately, these butchers are only normal people, even though their builds are big.’
’They don’t need to be summoners to do all the dirty work. No one is capable of fighting them here.’
’Well…’ Nathan chose to make a move right away.
“!!!” The middle-aged man widened his eyes in shock, but Nathan moved faster than he could react.
The man could see Nathan approaching the two men from behind. To avoid getting noticed, he had to avoid using the ena as much as possible.
So, Nathan took advantage of his superior physical strength and snapped their necks in rapid succession.
The middle-aged man dropped his jaw.
Nathan first took the blade from their hands and stabbed their hearts to ensure their death. Then, he turned around and placed his finger on his lips, signaling the middle-aged man to remain silent.
He searched for the key from the butcher before heading to the cell.
Quietly, he opened the cell and approached the man, whispering, “Don’t react too late. Right now, the only one who can see me and hear me is you. The same applies to you.”
“Are you going to rescue us?” The man looked around, slightly panicking.
“I can bring you and all the people here outside, but it might result in them finding out about our movement. So, to make sure nothing goes wrong, I need some information about this place.”
The middle-aged man gulped down.
To calm him down, Nathan first began with a smaller question to see whether he was still sound.
“What’s your name?”
“My name… is Gregory.”
“!!!” Nathan didn’t expect this answer. The doctor he was searching for was also called Gregory. “Are you a doctor?”
