Chapter 1147 - 1147: Sincerity
*Knock!*
*Knock!*
Nathan raised his eyebrows while Mae said, “Looks like we have an esteemed guest.”
Since Mae had added ‘esteemed,’ Nathan knew the guest wasn’t a thug who was trying to mug them. Nathan nodded to Evelyn as they headed to the door. Mae opened the door for them.
The one in front was none other than the manager of the exchange hall they had met earlier.
“How are you doing, esteemed guests? I apologize for disturbing your rest. However, may I have a bit of your time? I would like to introduce you to a person.”
Evelyn couldn’t help but squint her eyes as if she was displeased these people dared to disturb them. Her body was faintly emitting pressure.
Before they thought it was a threat, Nathan put his hand on her shoulder, as if telling her to calm down.
Evelyn clicked her tongue and walked away, as if telling Nathan to deal with it herself. However, this was nothing but a performance.
“I apologize for my fiancee’s reaction.” Nathan scratched the back of his head.
“It’s alright. It’s my fault for disturbing your rest.”
Nathan nodded. “So, the reason you came here⦔
“Yes, allow me to introduce you to the person I serve.” After seeing Evelyn without her veil, the manager fully understood that no woman would be able to seduce Nathan as long as she stayed by his side.
In that case, there was only one way to persuade Nathan. It was through negotiation.
The manager stepped to the side and extended his hands, introducing the lady behind him. “Allow me to introduce you. She is the second young lady of the Lindwurm Marquisate, Young Lady Amelia.”
The young lady stepped forth gracefully and politely lifted up her skirt and offered a smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Nathan. I am Amelia Lindwurm.”
Nathan placed his hand on his chest but didn’t kneel. “It’s a pleasure to meet a beautiful lady such as yourself. My name is Nathan Reckmoon.”
‘Reckmoon?’ Amelia had never heard of this family name. However, he definitely had the strength to have a family name if the report was correct. So, she didn’t act clueless.
Instead, she started with an apology. “I’d like to express my apologies for coming uninvited and disturbing your rest.
“If you may, I’d like to invite you to stay the night at my mansion.”
Evelyn’s eyebrows twitched. She thought, ‘The first thing they did was send a beautiful daughter? What are they thinking? Are they trying to seduce him right away?’
She thought Nathan’s claim was extremely valid, not realizing it was just a misunderstanding because the lord wasn’t in this city.
“I don’t think that’s appropriate, Lady Amelia. My fiancee and I are simply going around to see the world. There’s no need to trouble you.”
Amelia stopped as though she were disappointed. However, she then stepped to the side as a maid entered with a small box.
“I have heard about the transaction from our manager, and I believe that wasn’t enough to show our sincerity. As you already know, food is scarce no matter where you go.
“That’s why please take this as compensation, Mr. Nathan.” Amelia extended her hand to the box as the maid opened it, revealing the item inside.
It was a golden necklace with blue jade. Although it was faint, Nathan could see ena lingering around it.
“This necklace is called Blue Ocean. This blue jade is the pearl of the ocean. This necklace can help the person who wears it to avoid illness.”
The manager stole a glance at the necklace and remembered what she had said on the way.
“What? Are you planning to give that necklace to them?” The manager gasped. “Isn’t it a treasured necklace? The only one the marquis gave you?”
Because Amelia couldn’t become a summoner or a mother, the marquis gave this necklace to let her stay healthy. At least he didn’t want her to make a problem by falling sick.
Amelia nodded. “Yes. This is the only thing I possess and have access to. We don’t have a lot of time, so I don’t think I can grab anything useful to smooth our negotiation.”
If it turned out to be a flop, Amelia would receive the marquis’ anger. However, it looked like she had made her decision.
So, when it was time to present the necklace, the manager couldn’t help but feel a bit astonished. He might have misjudged the young lady due to the rumor.
Nathan’s face darkened as his voice became icy. “Does Lady Amelia try to use this necklace to get more food from me?”
“…” Amelia could feel the intense pressure coming from Nathan. He didn’t even release his ena or anything. Yet, Nathan felt like he had grown bigger.
Even though she was known as useless, she was still a marquis’ daughter. Yet, Nathan dared to act against a marquis’ daughter. He was either a fool or confident the marquis wouldn’t make a problem with it. Judging from Evelyn’s strength, it appeared to be the latter.
Amelia was scared, but that didn’t stop her. She shook her head calmly and replied, “I apologize for making you think that way. However, you misunderstand me, Mr. Nathan. I just wish to offer you fair compensation to show you our family’s sincerity.
“I believe that forming a mutual relationship between you and the marquisate is above the things you have.”
What Amelia didn’t know was that there was no need for negotiation because he had already decided to go along with the agreement, according to Mae’s divination. However, he had to make sure whether this place was the correct one or not.
In other words, this was a test for Amelia.
Fortunately, she didn’t succumb to the pressure. Although he didn’t know the worth of the necklace, he could feel the sincerity, especially from the manager’s gaze. It was definitely an important necklace.
Nathan thought for a moment before turning his gaze to Evelyn. Evelyn shrugged. “I will follow your choice.”
Nathan smiled as he received the necklace. “Since Lady Amelia has shown her sincerity, I guess I should also show my sincerity. I wonder if Lady Amelia can spare me a bit of her time tomorrow morning?”
She didn’t know what Nathan was planning to do. He might even escape from this city tonight. Either way, she had no choice but to trust his words. “Of course. I definitely have time for you, Mr. Nathan.”
