Chapter 103: Return To Your Pond
Chapter 103: Return To Your Pond
“What does this do?” Tarah asked as she passed 10 Parute Fruits to Boiboi.
Acting as casually as if he were breathing, Boiboi pocketed the Parute Fruits and pointed at a groove on the boat’s side, “Through this groove, we suck in wind.”
He ran a finger along the groove, highlighting it growing narrower towards the rear, “When it is ejected out here, it will generate a decent amount of force to stabilize the boat.”
“Since the groove will be submerged underwater when the boat is rowing, this will help keep it steady when the boat is rocked by waves.” Boiboi explained to a starry-eyed Tarah.
“That’s cool!” Tarah exclaimed, “The boats we use are significantly simpler in design and performance.”
“It does give us decent speed, but the Prana consumption is pretty severe.” She complained, “Its wobbles are also a pain to deal with.”
’That’s because none of the Mystic Humans have a background related to engineering and the likes.’ Torq thought, ’The Cooter Clan’s ships are extremely stable and energy efficient because they have spent many millennia perfecting them.’
The Mystic Humans were a new race, most of whom happened to be Free Human slaves living under the Cooter Clan at the Dralh Sea in the past. They not only had no education, their experience only pertained to mining.
They had made tremendous improvements in recent years, but a large gap still existed between them and other sophisticated forces that had been around for a while.
“Why don’t I teach you a technique that will solve your stabilisation issues easily?” Torq made an offer, “It’s something you can use with your powers. But it’ll be expensive. What do you say?”
“Ah…” Tarah only thought for a couple seconds before nodding happily, “I’ll pay whatever price you state.”
’They never had to negotiate, huh?’ He knew their history and their recent advancements, knowing clearly why Mystic Humans had a skewed perspective towards wealth. So, he had no misgivings about quoting an insane sum, ’She wouldn’t even feel a thing.’
The Spirit Eater was a Pranic Beast with a physical characteristic resembling a Parute Tree, in that it could absorb nutrients from the ground and create fruits, which were Parute Fruits.
Consuming 100 Parute Fruits increased the Prana capacity of a Spirit Container by one unit, until the Spirit Container’s limit was reached.
Eating Parute Fruits was the fastest way to grow in strength. And the Mystic Humans could create as many Parute Fruits as they needed. This was why their perception of wealth was completely skewed, for they were all wealth-factories themselves.
Tarah had given 10 Parute Fruits to Torq for every piece of information she learnt. She didn’t even feel it was a loss, for she was indeed learning a lot. And now, hearing an answer existed for the problem she always faced, Tarah was ready to pay any sum.
It wasn’t a question of making a loss or anything. She only needed to transform into a Spirit Eater and stay still like a plant in a region for a while, until she produced enough to amass the respective Parute Fruits.
“I think I have around 3000 Parute Fruits in this.” Tarah grabbed the fist-sized lantern hanging by the belt on her hip and gave it to Torq, “Why don’t you take it all? If it still feels insufficient, give me a day, and I’ll bring you the rest.”
“You’re giving me the storage lantern too?” Torq asked in surprise.
The storage lantern was an item sold by the Mammoth Clan. It was an universally usable Spirit Weapon that anyone could use. Within the storage lantern was a cubic metre in space.
When activated, the fist-sized storage lantern expands to its original size, with a cubic metre of space within, which is now accessible. It had a normal door, behaving no different from a basket.
Once the respective items are placed inside and the door is closed shut, it consumes a unit of Prana to shrink itself. The storage lantern reverts into a fist size and could be carried, without worries about the weight of the objects placed within.
Once it shrinks, it’s like the space within the storage lantern is cut off from the rest of the world, which is how such a level of storage is possible. Storage lanterns come in different sizes, ranging from a single storey to even a ten storey storage lantern.
Every floor in the storage lantern has a cubic metre in space.
The storage lanterns typically sold across Sumatra ranged between a single storey to four storeys. The one given to Torq was a single storey storage lantern. Upon seeing it, Torq hurriedly grabbed and placed it under his robe.
He then whispered to Tarah, while eyeing his surroundings to ensure no one was watching him, “Don’t offer this to anyone else from the Cooter Clan, alright?”
The Cooter Clansmen refused to use a storage lantern, irrespective of the convenience it offered in the transportation of goods. They were extremely stubborn in that regard and typically found it offensive when someone offered them a storage lantern.
Torq wasn’t like that, however. He was absolutely happy to get a storage lantern for basically free, “The Paute Fruits alone aren’t enough. However, since you’ve given me a precious storage lantern, I’ll teach you something greater than what I had planned to teach you before.”
He then began to teach her the principles behind a gyroscope, which was exactly what he had planned to teach before too. He was just hyping up its value.
“A-Awesome,” Tarah exclaimed, “Something this wondrous exists?”
“I feel like I cannot understand it fully. Teach it…” Just as she was about to ask for another explanation, Torq offered her a Gentle Coral cup. And within it was water.
“It’s an Information Slip with all the knowledge you need to understand the principles behind a gyroscope and how it can help stabilize your boat.” Torq explained, “Just drink it and all the information will flow into your mind space.”
“Wow, thank you.” Tarah consumed the Information Slip. A few seconds later, her eyes widened in realisation, “The Cooter Clan’s Information Slips are amazing.”
“They are the best on Sumatra.” Torq boasted the moment he noticed someone looking his way. Seeing the other party nod in satisfaction, he boasted about the Cooter Clan a bit more, “In every field of innovation, we stand at the forefront.”
“Wow,” Tarah clapped at his words, “I did hear my father talking about the Cooter Clan before, but I never knew you guys were this awesome.”
“Of course,” Torq patted his chest and huffed once.
“Time’s up,” Fanfan walked over, glanced at Tarah once and faced Torq, “Is the boat done?”
“Yes,” Torq nodded.
“Then, we set sail immediately.” Fanfan then eyed Tarah, “Don’t disturb us and run along to your father.”
“Oh,” Tarah was taken aback for a moment before her expression changed, expressing disdain as she stared up at Fanfan, “Last time I checked, this was the Mystic Humans’ territory.”
“So what?” Fanfan snorted and muttered under his breath, “Descendants of mere slaves acting like they’re masters…”
“Now I remember what my father was saying.” Tarah extended out her index finger and plunged it straight up Fanfan’s nose, “You were, are, and will always be irrelevant.”
“Return to your pond before you act important, dumb fucks.”
