Chapter 492 Defeating an Empire

Sebastian sighed in relief.

The Holy King had come close to hitting him two times.

Luckily, he hadn’t known about the properties of the Yin-Lightning. Otherwise, this could have gone the other way.

Or Sebastian would have still won. Nobody knew.

“The duels are over,” the Duchess of Twilight said. “The promises have been kept and fulfilled.”

BANG!

Red lightning gathered around Sebastian, putting him at 100% of his capacity again before he charged forward with all of his speed.

BANG!

Kyle also exploded forward.

Emperor Winterfire’s eyes widened in horror.

Kyle appeared two kilometers behind him, while Sebastian stopped two kilometers in front of him.

Emperor Winterfire’s mind was entering a panic.

Just a couple of minutes ago, the Winterfire Empire had been the ruler of the world, excluding the Duchess of Twilight.

But now, he was the only Transcendent left of the Winterfire Empire.

There was an 80% chance that he could kill Sebastian in a battle.

Emperor Winterfire looked at Kyle.

But if both of them worked together…

It would look bad.

“How the turns have tabled,” Kyle said with a smirk.

“Fuck you, Kyle!” Sebastian said as he sputtered in laughter, not expecting the switch of the classic phrase. “I was trying to be serious here!”

Kyle just laughed back as Emperor Winterfire narrowed his eyes.

“What do you want?” he asked.

Obviously, if the two of them wanted him dead, he would already be dead.

The fact that they kept him alive meant that they wanted something from him.

“Another promise,” Sebastian said.

“A promise?” Emperor Winterfire asked with a dark tone.

“Yep,” Kyle said from behind him.

“What promise?” he asked.

“Simple,” Kyle said. “You are not going to attack me, unless I attack you.”

Emperor Winterfire looked at Kyle. “Is this some kind of trick?”

“Nope,” Kyle said. “Why don’t you word the promise if you believe it’s a trick?”

Emperor Winterfire became silent for a while.

“Fine,” he said. “As long as you do not show any obvious ill-will towards me or my Empire, and as long as you do not attack or threaten me in any way, I will not attack you or manipulate circumstances that would lead to your death.”

“Almost perfect,” Kyle said. “It’s just that the part about threatening you in any way sounds a bit too ambiguous.”

“Threaten me, as in, try to use your power to manipulate me or use this promise to cause damage towards me or my Empire,” Emperor Winterfire said.

“Sure, that sounds good enough. Turn that into a Karmic Promise, and we promise not to gang up on you,” Sebastian said.

Emperor Winterfire knew that this was essentially an empty promise from their side.

They were not Transcendents.

They could break whatever promises they wanted.

This was not a negotiation nor a trade.

This was capitulation.

Emperor Winterfire made a Karmic Promise, and Kyle smiled.

“Thank you for volunteering to increase my Momentum,” he said.

Emperor Winterfire’s brows furrowed, but he didn’t say anything.

“No worries,” Sebastian said. “I won’t attack you. You’re going to be Kyle’s opponent.”

Emperor Winterfire looked at Kyle.

How could Kyle possibly become his opponent?

He could tell how Sebastian had become so powerful, but Sebastian’s speed of Law Comprehension had always been terrifyingly fast.

Sure, Kyle knew two or three normal Laws, but Yin-Elements were much more difficult to comprehend.

Without one, Kyle couldn’t possibly reach Emperor Winterfire’s level.

“You can leave now,” Kyle said with a smirk. “You’d better hope that Silvester lets you live.”

Emperor Winterfire threw a glance at the Duchess of Twilight, who didn’t say anything.

He still didn’t say anything.

Over his long life, he had learned that keeping his cards hidden was the best way to survive.

In the end, he just retreated.

Sebastian and Kyle just watched him retreat with smirks on their faces.

“Easy peazy!” Sebastian said.

Kyle laughed. “Seems like we won the war!”

The two gave each other another fist-bump while the Duchess of Twilight just watched.

“You have performed a rare feat,” she said to Sebastian.

“Rare, but not unprecedented, I assume?” he asked.

“Correct,” the Duchess of Twilight said. “There are cases in which Mortals kill Nobodies.”

“Are there cases in which Mortals kill Standard Transcendents?” Kyle asked.

The Duchess of Twilight looked at Kyle.

“There are legends,” she said, “and some of them have been confirmed by powerful people.”

Kyle and Sebastian nodded in respect.

That was crazy!

Even Emperor Winterfire would lose against someone like that.

“How?” Sebastian asked. “I think I’ve already adapted the Yin-Lightning quite well to combat. Not sure if I can increase my power by a lot.”

“There are more Laws,” she said. “For example, there are the Biological Laws. Faster regeneration, more physical power, higher speed, etcetera. There are still ways in which you can improve your power. “

“However,” she said, turning to Kyle. “These legends all have one thing in common.”

“The Mortals in the legends won not with a Pure Level Two Law, but with a Complex Level One Law.”

This surprised the two of them.

“Pure Laws are Laws dictated by the world,” the Duchess of Twilight said. “Complex Laws are Laws that you make. By understanding the Fragment of Rank A Metal Materials, you can create a material that is better suited to you than any pure Rank S Material, correct?”

“Oh, I get it!” Kyle said. “That makes sense!”

The Duchess of Twilight nodded before looking at Sebastian.

“When you become a Standard Transcendent, you will advance to the next world. Kyle has already agreed to become the Overseer. I don’t see a good reason why you should stay in this world.”

“In the next world, you have access to many more resources, more powerful Laws, and opportunities. I would advise you to ascend soon.”

Sebastian just smiled.

“Thanks, but I will stay here for a while. I wanna see the fight, and I want to learn more about these Biological Laws you told me about.”

The Duchess of Twilight furrowed her brows.

“As you wish. It is your choice.”

The next moment, she just went back to the Twilight Duchy.

She didn’t need to guard Kyle or Sebastian anymore.

As long as they didn’t enter the Grand Ocean, nothing could threaten them anymore.

Meanwhile, Kyle just sheepishly smiled. “Sorry about that.”

“Hey, I should be the sorry one,” Sebastian said. “You’re the one getting fucked by the company. I just have to wait.”

Naturally, Sebastian wanted to go to the next world, but if he did that, he would most likely be executed.

After all, he was supposed to become the Overseer.

Because of that, he had to wait until Kyle became the Overseer to ascend.

Sadly, Kyle would need a long time to finally comprehend the Law he had been chasing for such a long time.

The Complex Level One Law of the Meteor.
