Stronger by Paying Salaries and I Have 1 Billion Employees
Chapter 613 - 438: 699 Points? You Treat Me as a Brother; I’ll Treat You as a Confidant
Two days later, the official portal for checking college entrance exam scores went live.
Chunshen, Chessboard Street, in a small courtyard where locust trees were in full bloom.
Wang Zhanjun sat on a small stool, clutching Prince Ziyuan’s admission ticket in his hand. He nervously typed her ID number, exam admission number, and name into the computer, then pressed the enter key.
The moment he saw the score, Wang Zhanjun’s mouth hung open as a delighted grin spread across his face.
"What’s the total score?" Wen Shumei asked eagerly.
Prince Ziyuan, who was standing to the side, seemed completely unfazed by the results. She gazed calmly upwards, breathing in the faint fragrance of the flowers.
When she was a child, her favorite food was stir-fried locust flowers.
Only when she thought of Chen Yansen did a warm smile blossom on Prince Ziyuan’s face.
"Chinese: 127."
"Math: 150."
"English: 143."
"Science Comprehensive: 279."
"Total score: 699!"
Wen Shumei stared at the computer screen, reading the scores aloud. Her voice grew louder and louder until she was practically shouting.
"699?"
"Doesn’t that make Ziyan the top scorer in our county?"
"She’s at least the provincial top scorer! This girl is really something, totally different from her brother."
"Lao Gu, don’t talk nonsense. Zihao hasn’t even graduated yet and he’s already a senior executive at his company, earning a million a year! Even a top scorer won’t earn that much money right after graduating, right?"
"Brother Jun, when are you treating us to a meal? Let our kids soak up some of the top scorer’s good fortune!"
Instantly, neighbors from all around popped their heads out, chattering excitedly.
Wang Zhanjun shot Wen Shumei a look, grumbling to himself, ’This silly woman just loves to show off.’
Wen Shumei immediately glared back fiercely and pursed her lips. ’How dare you glare at me? You think I don’t know what you’re up to? The house is so spacious, yet you insisted on moving the computer into the courtyard to check the scores. Wasn’t it just so everyone could see? I was helping you out, and you’ve got the nerve to get mad at me.’
Just then, a KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK came from the door.
Wang Zhanjun gave an embarrassed laugh and used it as an excuse to go open the door.
"Huh? Brother Bin, what are you doing here?"
As he spoke, Wang Zhanjun pulled Chen Guobin into the small courtyard and enthusiastically brought him a chair.
"Isn’t today the day you check the scores? I brought two bottles of good wine to celebrate with you," Chen Guobin said, shaking the gift bag in his hand.
Wang Zhanjun craned his neck and, glimpsing the familiar Moutai packaging in the gift box, grinned and said, "Only 699! Ai, this girl is just careless. She was one point away from 700."
Despite his words, the pride on his face was impossible to hide.
"Hello, Uncle Chen." Prince Ziyuan came forward and greeted him politely.
"Here, this is a gift from your Brother Jensen," Chen Guobin said with a smile, taking out an exquisite, palm-sized gift box and handing it to Prince Ziyuan.
"Thank you, Uncle Chen." Prince Ziyuan smiled gently, her expression calm.
She knew in her heart that Chen Yansen would never send her a gift.
Chen Guobin most likely bought this himself.
"Silly child, why are you thanking me?" Lao Chen said, startled for a moment, then waved his hand.
Prince Ziyuan opened the box. Inside lay a necklace of a very simple design, but the pendant was a platinum beer cap, the size of a fingernail.
The moment she saw it, Prince Ziyuan beamed, looking even happier than she had about scoring 699.
She knew in her heart that only Chen Yansen would give her something like this.
"Old Wang, you sit with Brother Bin. I’ll go make dinner," said Wen Shumei.
"What’s the point of cooking! Come on, come on, let’s go to a restaurant!" Wang Zhanjun announced loudly.
With that, he pulled Chen Guobin towards his new car.
The car had just been bought for him by Wang Zihao, and Wang Zhanjun simply couldn’t contain his pride.
Chen Guobin glanced at his own BMW X5, but not wanting to spoil Wang Zhanjun’s mood, he got into the Audi Q5 with him.
「Meanwhile.」
After the lunch rush, Li Zhou, Xu Jiacheng, and the others gathered at a Shaxian County eatery, wolfing down their food.
Suddenly, Li Zhou slapped his forehead. "I completely forgot to ask! The college entrance exam scores should be out. Quick, ask Nannan."
Xu Jiacheng, sitting across from him, was reminded by this and finally remembered. He had been so busy with deliveries during lunch that he hadn’t paid any attention.
At this thought, he quickly pulled out his phone and logged into QQ.
Before he could even send a message, he received a screenshot: "Chinese: 113, Math: 132, English: 109, Liberal Arts Comprehensive: 247, Total Score: 601."
"She’s safely past the Tier One university cutoff!" Li Zhou said confidently after a glance.
Last year, the Tier One cutoff for science students in Huian Province was 544. His cousin’s kid missed it by exactly one point, so he remembered it very clearly.
"Brother Cheng, congratulations! Don’t forget to treat us after work tonight."
"601? My goodness, I only scored 301 back in my day. That’s 300 more than me."
"Brother Cheng, come on, let’s toast!"
His colleagues said, laughing and joking. One of them, a Kuai Pao Rider holding a cup of plain water, made the proposal.
"Thanks... Brother Zhou. Th-thanks, everyone. Whatever you want to eat, it’s on me," Xu Jiacheng said, having a rare moment of extravagance.
"Have Nannan take pictures of her household registration book, ID card, and admission ticket, and upload the photos to the system first. Can’t forget about that ten-thousand-yuan annual award," Li Zhou said with a hearty laugh, urging Xu Jiacheng to take care of the important business first.
"Right, right! Brother Cheng, upload the documents first."
The others quickly caught on as well.
「At the same time.」
Senlian Capital’s initiative to give out scholarships to the outstanding children of couriers, delivery drivers, and ordinary workers also started trending online.
"If you score above the Tier One cutoff, you get ten thousand a year. That’s forty thousand over four years! Most public universities only have tuition fees of four or five thousand a year. Chen Yansen is basically covering all four years of tuition!"
"So if you skip university and just take the college entrance exam every year, does that mean you get forty thousand a year?"
