Street Hustler and His Policewoman Wife
Chapter 690: Bad Seed!
Wen is indeed very knowledgeable about information related to the deceased.
When Chen Xiao saw those densely packed birth dates and times, he couldn’t help but exclaim:
"Do you people in this line of work investigate everything without leaving out anything?"
"Indeed, including whether the person celebrates their birthday according to the lunar or solar calendar. As long as someone enters our field of vision, we must know it all."
"That’s great. Besides driving, I have something else that I need you to do." Chen Xiao’s face clearly showed his inner delight.
Wen squinted and smiled, "Aren’t you afraid that the task you give me will stimulate my thinking, causing me to disappear along with the clues I find?"
"I hope you disappear. If you do, it would be a 100% confirmation that you’ve found an important clue. Otherwise, I’d have to question the accuracy of the information you provide."
Chen Xiao expressed his viewpoint.
Wen chuckled, "Is this what you call respect for our line of work?"
"Fair is fair. You have your thoughts, and I have my risk avoidance." Chen Xiao replied.
Wen nodded, "The more I feel that coming directly to you is a very correct move. So, what do you need me to do?"
"Sun Zhou just called Sang Yupeng. You must know Sang Yupeng’s child, Sang Xiaoming, right?"
"Yes, I saw the task force looking for Sang Xiaoming yesterday."
"I need you to investigate Sang Xiaoming’s social connections. I want a list of every kind of relationship. Also, did you know there was a fire in this building?"
Wen’s eyes narrowed, "Yes, I know."
"What I need is an answer on whether you can find someone with ties to that fire from Sang Xiaoming’s social connections. If you can’t, then I want to confirm if there’s any issue with someone’s face or hair!"
Wen’s eyebrow shot up, "I understand what you mean. In your mind, that school-aged Sang Xiaoming is a very important information link, isn’t it?"
"You could say that."
"Leave the investigation to me. I won’t mess it up. As for driving, find someone else yourselves."
Wen left with those words, leaving directly.
After watching him leave, Chen Xiao didn’t join Qin Fei in observing Cao Xiuyuan’s crime scene analysis.
He kept staring at the surveillance camera above, pondering the intention behind switching the footage.
The surface intention is obvious: to disrupt the police investigation.
But, deeper down?
Deeper down, there’s something unexplainable: the surveillance is on the fourth floor, no doubt, but why was the deceased, Yuan Keyu, coming and going on the fourth floor on the day of the incident?
If Sang Yupeng didn’t lie, Yuan Keyu shouldn’t have had a key to any fourth-floor room.
How did he enter and exit the respective rooms?
Chen Xiao thought there was a big problem here.
Looking again at all the rooms on the fourth floor, every one of them was rented out.
This means other people were living there!
Chen Xiao took out his computer again to continue watching the enhanced footage of Yuan Keyu appearing in the surveillance.
He hoped to interpret Yuan Keyu’s body language through the clearer video.
Sometimes, people’s body language conveys their mental state when they appear somewhere.
The task force was inside investigating and collecting evidence.
Chen Xiao stood outside holding his computer, silent.
He played the footage repeatedly, watching Yuan Keyu approaching the door and taking out the key to open it.
Yuan Keyu’s movements seemed like he was returning to his own place.
There was no hesitation in his walk, and his behavior showed nothing suspicious.
Moreover, every time he reached the floor, he looked up at the surveillance camera.
Chen Xiao thought over and over, always feeling that this was Yuan Keyu’s only abnormal action.
In the role of Yuan Keyu, who would glance at the surveillance every time they came down the corridor?
This is unreasonable.
But Chen Xiao couldn’t explain this behavior.
Just as Chen Xiao was feeling puzzled, Sun Zhou, who had already informed Sang Yupeng, walked over to him.
After glancing at the seemingly clearer video than he’d seen before, Sun Zhou commented:
"Mr. Chen, you’re very capable. I heard that you have a company specializing in surveillance back home, right?"
Chen Xiao nodded, "Yes, it was established not long ago."
"It seems that the relevant talents in your company are top-notch, otherwise, they wouldn’t be more advanced than our technical staff’s methods."
Chen Xiao just smiled, not expecting a response from this statement, so Sun Zhou began his inquiry:
"What were you thinking about earlier, Mr. Chen? I can tell you’re quite puzzled."
Without hesitation, Chen Xiao directly asked, "Captain Sun, how many years have you been a police officer?"
Sun Zhou was a bit surprised and replied, "It’s been over ten years now."
"You must have encountered quite a number of murder cases, then?"
"I can’t remember exactly, but definitely quite a few."
"Why do you think someone gets killed?"
"Mostly for money, love, or revenge. These are the most common, but it doesn’t rule out the possibility that some people are innately wicked and might suddenly decide to kill someone just for fun at some point."
Sun Zhou’s words echoed what Chen Xiao had previously explained to Luo Dali and others about murder cases.
Chen Xiao nodded, acknowledging Sun Zhou’s words, but as he did, he suddenly noticed a bamboo pole placed in the corner of the corridor.
He didn’t know what the bamboo pole was for; it just stood there, casting a long slanted shadow under the sunlight from beyond the wall.
The bamboo pole was straight.
The shadow, however, was slanted.
This sight suddenly gave Chen Xiao an idea.
"Captain Sun, you said just now there are innate bad seeds who might suddenly decide to kill someone just for fun. Do you think there could be such a person in Xiaozhuang South Town? Maybe even living in this very building?"
"Whether it’s by accident or design, he knows Professor Yuan Keyu’s identity. So this bad seed intends to do something sensational!"
No sooner had Chen Xiao spoken, Sun Zhou immediately dismissed it:
"The possibility is very low. Professor Yuan’s identity is quite special, but he’s not a household name. Besides, nothing about Professor Yuan’s life is connected to Xiaozhuang South Town."
"That’s one way to look at it, but the tenants here come from all over the country."
Chen Xiao’s words rendered Sun Zhou momentarily speechless.
His brow furrowed, and it seemed like he found some truth in what Chen Xiao was saying.
However, Sun Zhou’s thoughts were interrupted when Sang Yupeng arrived again.
He temporarily set aside the issue Chen Xiao raised and began questioning Sang Yupeng.
Chen Xiao did not rush to listen to Sang Yupeng’s explanations.
He thought about what reasoning he could use to refute the point that Sun Zhou deemed impossible.
The reason Sun Zhou found it impossible was because Yuan Keyu’s identity, though special, would not normally be within the average person’s realm of awareness.
This fact made it unlikely for Yuan Keyu to be recognized in Xiaozhuang South Town.
Chen Xiao found the logic sound, but the world is vast and full of wonders, with experts hidden among the ordinary!
Is it impossible that someone among the general public is extremely interested in Yuan Keyu’s field of work?
