Stockpiling for an Exiled General Through My Store's Back Door
Chapter 156: What Is This?
Chapter 156: Chapter 156: What Is This?
Hua Buwan had prepared the flatbreads for the meat sandwiches in advance and stored them in the refrigerator. She also had marinated pork chops, beef steaks, and chicken fillets ready to go. Considering their tastes, she decided to stick to the most basic pork chops; they were much more accustomed to eating pork.
She heated the flatbreads and pan-fried the pork chops until they were fully cooked and golden brown on both sides. Next, she fried the eggs. Ling Qianjun had already washed the lettuce, but Hua Buwan still blanched it quickly, just enough to keep the leaves crisp and refreshing. None of them liked eating raw food. Whether it was meat or vegetables, giving it a quick scald always brought a bit of peace of mind and ensured the food was nice and hot.
Once all of this was done, Hua Buwan turned off the stove and prepared to assemble the sandwiches. Ling Qianjun immediately stepped forward to help wash the pan and spatula, clearing up the countertop. Hua Buwan watched him with a smile, feeling a warm sensation in her heart, and didn’t stop him. She simply put on her food-prep gloves and focused on assembling the flatbread sandwiches on the side.
She made ten sandwiches in total, planning to hand out two to each person. One wouldn’t be enough to satisfy them. After all, she hadn’t made them very large—they were small enough to hold in the palm of a single hand. Even she needed to eat two to get full. After finishing, she packed them in pairs, filling up five separate bags.
At the same time, Ling Qianjun finished washing up. His eyes lit up as he looked at the finished flatbread sandwiches, and he couldn’t help but swallow hard. The kitchen air was rich with the savory aroma of meat, fried eggs, and the toasted wheat fragrance of the flatbreads. The mixture of delicious scents completely roused his appetite.
GRUMBLE.
Ling Qianjun and Hua Buwan’s stomachs growled at almost the exact same time. The two exchanged a look and couldn’t stop themselves from bursting into laughter.
"Hurry back. Since it’s not dark yet, you can still finish these while they’re hot before going to the villagers." Saying this, Hua Buwan stuffed four bags of sandwiches into Ling Qianjun’s hands, urging him to return.
"Mhm, these look delicious. I have to taste your cooking while they’re still hot. I also need to let Mother, Yunge, and Qianfan try them." Ling Qianjun gathered the bags and prepared to head downstairs. Hua Buwan grabbed her remaining two sandwiches and walked him to the Any Door to see him off.
After watching him leave, she sat down at the counter and began to feast.
"Mmm! One word: delicious! As expected of me! Everything I make is amazing!" Hua Buwan boasted to herself as she munched on her food. The two sandwiches vanished in the blink of an eye. She let out a satisfied sound.
BURP.
Compared to cold sandwiches, these hot flatbread sandwiches truly won her heart. She could heat up regular sandwiches too, but the texture always felt a bit strange. In the end, these meat flatbreads were much better suited for her Huaxia stomach.
Dongxuan Country.
As soon as Ling Qianjun returned with the food, the Ling family immediately looked over at him. After he sat down, Ling Qianfan leaned in and said, "Qianjun, you’re back. Just now, the government officers announced that we need to gather in fifteen minutes and told us to get ready. Good thing you made it back in time, otherwise I was terrified someone would notice you were gone."
"Buwan made us some food. Let’s talk while we eat." Ling Qianjun scanned the area. Seeing that no one was heading their way, he took the flatbread sandwiches out from his sleeve and handed one bag to each person. He took the lead, opening his bag and taking a bite. "Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing. I was always going to make it back in time."
"Of course I believe you, Qianjun," Ling Qianfan said distractedly, practically drooling as he sniffed his bag. At this exact moment, his mind was no longer focused on Ling Qianjun in the slightest.
