Stockpiling for an Exiled General Through My Store's Back Door
Chapter 149: Joint Interrogation
Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Joint Interrogation
Hua Buwan sat alone by the windowsill, watching the endless rain outside as music played from her phone.
"The rain falls hard, the streets are flooded~
"Big brother carries firewood to sell, his wife goes out in floral shoes~"
Listening to the vintage nursery rhyme, Hua Buwan felt a deep sense of peace. She always felt that older songs had a distinct atmosphere and emotion, whereas modern tracks seemed increasingly restless and superficial. Of course, a few good ones would still drop occasionally, but far fewer than in the past.
When she was by herself, the world seemed to quiet down. She liked this tranquility, yet she was also slightly afraid of it. She wanted someone to break the silence, but she didn’t want them to ruin it constantly. It was a very contradictory mindset.
From birth until now, Hua Buwan remained a blank slate when it came to romance—what people often called "single since birth." She didn’t quite understand the dramatic, do-or-die love stories depicted in TV shows and novels, and she couldn’t relate to them. After all, she believed that to love others, one first had to love oneself. And she definitely loved herself more.
After listening to the music for a while, Hua Buwan picked up her phone and started scrolling through her Moments out of boredom. Because of the rain, very few people came to the supermarket to shop today, and those who did hurried in and out. As she scrolled, she suddenly stumbled upon an official announcement Chen Jingjing had posted two hours ago!
[It’s Chen Jingjing: Step right up, don’t miss out! This lady is making an official announcement today! I’m! No! Longer! Single!]
Below this text was an attached photo of two hands with their fingers intertwined—a large hand holding a smaller one. At a glance, it was obviously a man’s and a woman’s hand.
Seeing this post, Hua Buwan was instantly wide awake. The fires of gossip burned fiercely within her. She wondered, "When did Chen Jingjing meet this guy? How come she didn’t mention a word about it the last time she visited? Oh, she hid it so well. The picture only shows their hands, so I can’t even tell what he looks like. I’m so curious. What kind of man has caught her eye?"
Before Hua Buwan could even send a private message, notifications from the WhatsApp group chat [Four Great Divine Beasts] began to skyrocket. In no time at all, the unread count hit [99+].
She immediately opened their old college dorm group chat. The moment she clicked in, the messages went WHOOSH, scrolling upward in a blur. Hua Buwan could only catch the newest texts before she had a chance to swipe up and read the earlier ones.
[Lin Miaomiao: @Chen Jingjing, show us his face! Otherwise, I won’t let you off the hook! Send the pics, send the pics!]
[Li Ziling: @Chen Jingjing, we know you’re online, so don’t try to hide! Chen! Jing! Jing!]
[Chen Jingjing: No pics, no pics. Say whatever you want, you’re getting nothing, neener-neener.]
[Lin Miaomiao: I am currently rushing to Chen Jingjing’s house with my forty-meter-long blade. [○・`Д´・○]]
[Li Ziling: Sharpening my knives and heading toward Chen Jingjing’s location. The Li Family Army will reach the battlefield in five seconds!]
Watching the banter between her three former roommates, Hua Buwan burst out laughing. She wasn’t in a hurry to join the fray; instead, she scrolled all the way to the top and read through the messages one by one.
The moment Lin Miaomiao and Li Ziling saw the official announcement on Moments, they had charged straight into the group chat to tag Chen Jingjing. They had also tagged Hua Buwan so they could hold a "joint interrogation" together, but since Hua Buwan hadn’t surfaced, the other two had launched the assault first.
During the onslaught, the two of them deployed a variety of tactics. They started with the soft approach, and when that failed, they resorted to the hard way. Their core philosophy was simple: as long as they could dig up the gossip, even a dirty trick was a good trick. Lin Miaomiao had even brought out an unflattering photo of Chen Jingjing from their college days, threatening a hostage exchange—the embarrassing picture for a photo of the new boyfriend.
Hua Buwan’s stomach hurt from laughing at their conversation. Soon enough, she plunged into the battlefield too.
