Chapter 2291: Chapter 2291: News Brought by Fallen Leaves

"Cat?"

Emilia was startled, the kind of cat described here she had only encountered once in her brief fifty-something years:

"How did you... yes, he had a cat."

The Old Elf nodded, her face showing no expression that Emilia could decipher:

"This leaf inscribed with knowledge will soon be delivered to you through the pages of the poem manuscript. Pass it to the one who needs it. Also, focus on what you should do in Moon Bay, and if you need help, just write back."

"I understand, but Nanny, your previous question..."

Emilia hesitated, and the Old Elf shook her head, gently reminding:

"Do not tell anyone about our conversation tonight, not even that person. Little Emilia, do you remember what the leaves told us?"

The Sharp-eared Elf Girl nodded quickly, it was somewhat like a clan motto:

"The wind carries stories of the past, the leaves inscribe the patterns of history."

"Our way of recording history is unlike any other race. In these times, with the Tree Father long gone, the Mighty Power of the God of Time still shelters us.

So, falling leaves have brought word—

[Beyond the mist, our homeland, our world, order is on the verge of breaking,]

[The Ancient God vanished, and in the glow of the Primal Era, the God of Time, supporting the world, first fell into slumber.]

[Then, the God’s Firstborn, God’s Follower, lucky people—]

[Many Demigods attained fragments of the Ancient God Power, becoming the deities of bygone days.]

[But some were led astray by that power, driven to madness... At the end of the Fifth Era, others followed the path of the Ancient God.]

[Oh, so Emilia—noble child of innocence. The power long dormant in our bloodline is calling out.]

[’Balanced Gold’ Iluna Beath, ’Dark Humanity’ Ivan Daknis, ’Burnt Nun’ Delphine, ’All-knowing Madness’ Lakin Prisia, ’Earth Golem’ Guardian soul cluster, ’Shattered Butterfly’ nameless girl...]

[The lost blessings of the Ancient God, once again, return to the silent, nameless mortals.]

[Emilia, if you are willing,]

[proceed beyond the morning mist, reach the Land of Destiny, see the Ancient God, become The Chosen One.]"

The old voice calmly told, like a prophetic long poem. The unwavering voice echoed in the forest at night, raising small bumps on Emilia’s fair skin due to fear. She felt time and fate flowing, things far greater and unchangeable than her, a little elf.

Taking a deep breath, Emilia blinked, then had to admit that except for the last sentence, she did not understand at all what the Old Elf Nanny had said.

"Nanny, are you wishing for me to become The Chosen One?"

Emilia said somewhat uneasily, she had heard Shard talk about "Whispering Verses" and The Chosen Ones, but she had never considered becoming such a person.

After all, recently encountering relics in succession had exhausted her. If it continued for many years like this, Emilia felt she might go mad... She had no interest in repeatedly challenging her hobbies.

The Old Elf kindly shook her head:

"It’s just a story the leaves told me, it could be said to anyone.

Emilia, I only hope you understand what the story of Whispering Verses and The Chosen Ones signifies for the world. Of course, if you truly wish, in the tree behind me is the sword that you can take."

"Nanny, I roughly know from others what becoming The Chosen One means, and I’m... not planning to become one for now, so the [Time Flute] will stay here, so the kids can take turns playing the Hero."

Saying this, the Sharp-eared Elf Girl oddly felt she had grown up.

The Old Elf then let out a heavy sigh:

"Alright, then, but no matter what you do next, the clan will support you. If you truly decide to follow the man wielding the two Great Swords, you must also prepare mentally, the road ahead won’t be smooth."

Emilia blushed inexplicably:

"Understood, Nanny."

"That’s all for today, when you return from Moon Bay, I’ll tell you more things. Be careful outside, everyone is worried about you."

Emilia understood this was the end of the conversation, though she still felt puzzled about it, at least it wasn’t something bad:

"Alright, Nanny, I’ll bring you a souvenir from Moon Bay when I return... oh, may I ask one more thing?"

She suddenly asked, and only after receiving permission did she pose her question:

"The word ’Yggdrasil’, does it mean World Tree?"

The Old Elf nodded:

"Although your pronunciation is quite strange, I can affirmatively answer you."

"Oh, then I know. Goodbye, Nanny, I will write to you on time."

She waved gently.

"Goodbye, little Amelia. Also, remember to remind him of one thing: in the current Sixth Era, large-scale time manipulation to change reality is no longer possible for mortals."

"I remember."

Amelia nodded gently, got up and left, disappearing from sight, while the Old Elf who remained sitting there slowly rose after a long while. She looked up at the great tree standing in the night and bowed her head in silent prayer.

(Mia running...)

Dorothy, who returned home with Shard from the Dragon Nest outside Moon Bay City, did not leave No. 6, Saint Delan Square that night. However, when the two were preparing to rest, Shard mentioned another matter:

"It’s like this, I plan to... hmm, abstain until the exam this weekend is over."

The golden-haired girl, who was choosing pajamas in front of the wardrobe, turned her head in confusion:

"What? Abstain?"

She looked down at herself:

"Shard, am I no longer attractive to you?"

"Of course not."

"Then is it because... never mind, you must have come up with some strange idea again. But it’s okay, Lecia gave me an idea, I believe you will change your mind."

She continued picking out pajamas, then went to the dressing room in the master bedroom to change her clothes. When she came out, she casually picked up a fountain pen from the desk and walked up to Shard, blinking playfully with her green eyes:

"Oh! I dropped the pen."

And with a clang~ the pen slipped from her hand, Miss Writer glanced at Shard again, turned her back to him, and then slowly bent down to pick up the pen. This action caused her ** to face Shard directly.

Shard took a deep breath and looked at the cat lying on the bed. Then, Mia ended up sleeping in the wardrobe for the night again.

Dorothy wasn’t surprised that she successfully enchanted Shard. Early on Tuesday morning, while preparing breakfast in the kitchen, she didn’t bring the matter up again but rather curiously asked Shard, who was fiddling with the black raven feather the doctor had just sent in the dining room:

"Mia is so well-behaved, she wouldn’t make trouble even if you don’t lock her in the wardrobe. Why do you lock her up every time we stay at your place?"

The black feather was the tool Doctor talked about last Sunday night, which could be used to find the "Raven’s Lair". As for Dorothy’s question, Shard poked the eagerly awaiting cat with the feather, and the latter extended its paw to push the feather away.

"She is indeed well-behaved, but haven’t you noticed that when we... if Mia is watching from the side, it feels extremely shameful?"

"Shard, only you would feel that way."

The girl, wearing an apron, brought the steaming scrambled eggs to the table, then took off the apron and sat down next to Shard.

Milk, goat milk, bread with jam, scrambled eggs, and bacon, the breakfast at No. 6, Saint Delan Square was very sumptuous.

"Lecia asked me to tell you, the reason you feel ashamed being watched by a cat is that you’ve considered Mia akin to a family member rather than a pet."

Miss Writer said, as Shard had just picked up the bread ready to take a bite, he heard this and thought about it carefully, tilting his head to look at the orange and white cat licking the goat milk:

"I see... how about you stay again tonight, I won’t lock Mia up this time, and by tomorrow, you can tell me your feelings."

Dorothy smiled and kissed him on the cheek:

"So full of tricks, not planning to be an ascetic anymore, are you? Shard, are you inviting me? No, no, I still remember the last lesson, with the exam week approaching, I can’t drown in your tenderness. I can’t mess up the exam this time.

It’s Tuesday now, I need to study hard this week, Lecia too, so except for Saturday night, we won’t be coming over to your place."

"I see."

Shard nodded again and looked once more at Mia, who was focused on her breakfast, deciding that whether Galina or Luviya stayed over this week, he would put the cat on the bed’s headboard and then inquire about their opinions afterward.

Dorothy’s luggage was brought back from Moon Bay by Shard after transforming it into a toy, and after breakfast, Shard headed out to call a cab, gallantly escorting Dorothy back to Feather Quill Street before setting off for Moon Bay again.

Upon reaching the Belindel Estate, the Countess had already gone to the city council; today the council had to pass a budget proposal regarding tsunami prevention for Moon Bay City.

Amelia and Angelina were at the estate, though seemingly in the Elf Girl’s room discussing a novel. Although Angelina had become a student at Zaras Literary Academy, she didn’t need to take the summer exams.

Like Shard the previous year, she had joined the Academy not long before the exam week, but obviously, Angelina didn’t possess Shard’s exam talents, so she hadn’t registered for this exam.
