Chapter 2267: Conversation by the Bed
Chapter 2267: Chapter 2267: Conversation by the Bed
After exchanging glances with those azure eyes for a second, Miss Benanis blinked and then quickly closed the door again.
"What happened?"
Shard asked curiously, the witch suddenly shook her head:
"Oh, maybe the way I opened the door was not quite right, let me try again."
She adjusted her expression and took a deep breath, then opened the door again, but this time there was nothing outside.
So Vanessa Benanis sighed deeply, relieved that it was indeed an illusion, but also deeply disappointed.
But before this complex emotion could ferment, she heard Miss Sylvia’s excited voice:
"Vanessa, look what I found! I just caught a wild young unicorn without an owner at Bella’s estate!"
Miss Benanis turned her head to the left, the young black-haired witch was kneeling on the carpet, happily stroking the pure white little beast that still didn’t know what was happening. The latter sniffed Miss Sylvia’s scent, its bloodline memory recalling a certain special group of people.
"Ownerless? Wild?"
Miss Benanis repeated the words, then suddenly turned and asked Miss Belindel in the room:
"Bella, are you actually raising unicorns?"
"What?"
The Countess asked in surprise, before she could react, the little unicorn had already shaken off Miss Sylvia and rushed over, squeezing its head through the gap between the door and door frame held by Miss Benanis, then happily made a high-pitched call to Emilia who had already awakened in bed.
Thus, the elf girl who was pretending to sleep had to wake up:
"Oh~ what time is it now? Can we have dinner?"
She sat up from the bed, pretending to wipe her eyes, and then noticed that a room full of beautiful women, making her feel ashamed, were watching her.
For various reasons, nobody spoke, Emilia shrank her head, feeling this scene was much scarier than facing that crow in the bell tower this morning.
In any case, Emilia’s smooth awakening also marked a temporary conclusion to the demon affair.
Perhaps seeing Shard still had things to discuss with the elf girl, Miss Belindel called on the other two witches and two witch apprentices to head to her study first to talk about matters.
Everyone else sensibly made room for Shard, but Miss Sylvia cast an invitation to the little unicorn to join them in the study as she left, although the pure white little beast merely waited by the bed for Emilia’s petting, which made the young witch very disappointed.
"Bella, is that unicorn really not yours?"
"Emma, how could I possibly raise a unicorn at Moon Bay? But it’s been staying here for a while, you know? Unicorn fur is incredibly soft."
"Bella, I didn’t expect you not only hid things about Shard but also concealed matters about the unicorn. Honestly, if there wasn’t the demon issue, did you ever plan to greet us riding a unicorn?"
These were the voices that accompanied them as they left the corridor.
The door was closed by the last to leave, Miss Matilda. Once only Shard, Emilia, and Little Liana remained in the room, Shard said:
"Try it."
He took out Dr. Schneider’s potion bottle and applied the potion to Emilia’s arm; this time, no crow tattoos appeared.
Shard wasn’t the only one, even the elf girl herself sighed with slight relief, and then a bright smile appeared on her face:
"It’s over, finally over! Moon Bay! Vacation! Summer! Holiday!"
"Yes, yes, ahem, allow me to announce: your ’confinement’ period has ended, Emilia, you can now go out and tour the city."
Joy was visibly apparent on her face, Shard also petted the little unicorn beside him, then softly said:
"Since things are over, as promised, let me tell you what happened."
Seeing her wanting to leave the bed, Shard let her continue sitting there and listen.
Since Emilia had already seen Dr. Schneider this morning, Shard’s story naturally started from Emilia’s group leaving Tobesk, when the "Demon Hunter" Bill Schneider returned from an out-of-town meeting and sniffed the stink of demons.
In the story, he portrayed Dr. Schneider as a professional "Hunter" determined to spend his lifetime chasing and hunting demons, but in truth, thinking about it carefully, that’s not inaccurate. As for the name of Misfortune Demon - Fanarius, since the demon had already been swallowed by the doctor, it could be casually mentioned.
Even for elves, such an evil and ancient existence only stays within myths and legends. At first, Emilia listened with the quilt wrapped around her, then she held onto a pillow, and finally, somehow she ended up hugging the neck of the little unicorn, which seemed quite happy.
"So, that’s basically it."
After finishing the story, Shard summarised it with feigned seriousness:
"Miss Emilia Xenode, with your help, we were able to banish an evil presence that has never been sealed or destroyed in human civilization history. If it weren’t for the fact that this matter can’t be easily spoken of, your achievements would be enough to earn you the title of ’Hero’ or ’Champion,’ and having a statue erected in your honor at Saint Byrons would not be too exaggerated."
Emilia, embarrassed by the compliment, smiled:
"I won’t go around talking about this. This is my secret summer adventure... Actually, I didn’t do much; it was mostly you and Mr. Schneider taking action, I only made a small contribution... Our clan’s tradition is that living people cannot have statues, and I don’t consider myself a hero~"
She let go of the little unicorn and then said somewhat shyly to Shard:
"Thank you for saving me, Shard. You are my hero."
Shard shook his head and handed her the doctor’s red glass bead:
"This is the weapon we used this morning against the crow. Two were made initially, but only one was used. Dr. Schneider says this is for you as a souvenir and can also prevent you from encountering the demon again to some extent."
Emilia thanked him softly, and Shard then looked at the Night Watchman resting on the bedside table. The silver longsword had returned entirely to its original state after the morning’s events and hadn’t been altered or affected by the "Sword of Light."
Emilia followed Shard’s gaze:
"The morning’s events... that Light Sword actually had a greater impact than the demon incident, didn’t it?"
Shard nodded in surprise, not expecting her to be aware of this:
"There are things I hadn’t planned to tell you; once you know, you might get involved. But to explain this, it must be mentioned, and now you have the right to know. Emilia, do you want to know? This isn’t just courtesy; this is giving you a choice."
The sharp-eared elf girl nodded without hesitation, her emerald green eyes watching him:
"Is it about what you’ve been doing and what the academy professors have been frequently traveling for this past year? I want to know. I understand it’s dangerous, but I’m already involved, aren’t I?"
Only after confirming that Emilia genuinely wanted to know, Shard began telling her about the Whispering Verses and the affairs of the Chosen Ones. Of course, he didn’t reveal the identity of each Chosen One, focusing instead on the current investigation into the seventh Chosen One.
Once Shard finished, Emilia asked nervously:
"I’m not so righteous; I only thought you were dead at the time, and I wanted revenge for you... I’m not a Chosen One, am I?"
"At least for now, you are not. Drawing the sword is only one condition."
Emilia quickly nodded twice:
"The sword conveyed some information to me when I drew it. It seems those who can draw it once will find it easier to draw it a second time... There was more information besides this. I’m a bit confused right now; I’ll tell you once I sort it out."
Shard smiled and nodded, then reached for the Night Watchman and handed it to Emilia. The silver sword merely trembled slightly but did not transform into the Sword of Light again:
"However, we know for certain you haven’t become a Chosen One. Others may speculate, but they definitely can’t confirm it.
The ladies just now came from abroad. They said that far from Moon Bay, High Rank Circle Sorcerers with strong Perception Ability can sense the elemental fluctuations when you drew the sword. The church and other forces likely already know that ’someone riding a unicorn drew the Sword of Light.’ Although they also understand that the Chosen One hasn’t appeared, it doesn’t stop them from wanting to find you to understand how you did it."
"But this kind of thing can’t be replicated, right? Although I have the experience, the demon has already been banished by Mr. Schneider, and I certainly can’t invite it back just to draw the sword, can I? That’s not justice."
Emilia asked somewhat troubled, and Shard nodded:
"Exactly. And more importantly, we don’t want to reveal your identity. Publicizing your identity has no benefits; it would only attract all sorts of strange illegal organizations."
Hearing this, Emilia understood her current situation:
"So, what should I do next? Shard, I’ll listen to you. This summer has been so interesting."
Her beautiful eyes looked at Shard again, and he asked:
"Are you willing to stay in this manor and face this matter with us?"
"I am!"
She replied almost immediately, feeling slightly guilty for answering so quickly and revealing her thoughts. Fortunately, Shard didn’t notice this and instead said with a smile:
"That’s good, you won’t be bored next. Do you remember Princess Angelina? She’s here too, downstairs right now. You can have a good chat with her later or go into town together. Of course, remember to inform Earl Belindel before going out."
