Chapter 674: Challenge
Chapter 674: Challenge
Namgung Ilsun hastily circulated his mana to summon an energy barrier.
Boom!
An explosion rocked the Namgung estate. At the epicenter of the blast, one could see Namgung Ilsun looking disheveled, steadying himself. The domain that he was so proud of was almost broken after that one attack.
"Why is someone at your level working for a mere prince? You could have ruled this world with your martial might. I don’t understand your reasoning."
This was something that had been bugging him ever since he faced Bellator.
If he had this kind of power, he would never submit to anyone.
Bellator let out a breath and looked at him as if he were staring at a pathetic fool. "Namgung Ilsun, you are truly a frog at the bottom of a well."
He took a short pause and shook his head before he continued. "The Beyonder realm might be the peak of martial might in this desolate region..."
"Beyonder realm... are you talking about the realm right after Mythical Knight?" Namgung Ilsun frowned.
He had read many books, but he had never heard of something called the Beyonder realm. This was also why he took it upon himself to name it the Carefree Knight realm.
Bellator chuckled. "That’s right. The Beyonder is merely the true starting point for martial arts. From where I live, warriors at this level are only qualified to be doorkeepers."
With a mocking smile, he said. "How funny do you think it is for me when I heard you talking about ruling the world with the pathetic strength that you have?"
Namgun Ilsun was shaken.
Beyonder... someone as strong as him is only qualified to be a mere doorkeeper? Just what kind of terrible place did he come from?
His newly formed mana heart nearly shattered.
Looking at his unsettled face, Bellator called upon the flaming divine spear. "Now that you know how insignificant you are, just stay still and accept your death quietly."
Namgung Ilsun didn’t respond. He just lifted his head and looked at the sky.
"If only I..."
Whoosh!
A burning spear cut off his head before he could finish his words. His domain couldn’t even defend against the terrifying power of the flaming divine spear.
Thud.
Bellator stared at the old duke’s headless corpse and murmured. "Be good in your next life, old man."
With a wave of his hand, he summoned a wisp of flame that quickly engulfed the corpse.
He watched coldly as the corpse burned into ashes.
...
A few miles from the Namgung estate, Namgung Ri was leading a group of warriors to escape the city. There were only a few hundred of them, but they were all the elites of House Namgung. However, even with such a formidable force, Namgung Ri’s heart was enveloped with a sense of crisis.
Father told me that he has already surpassed Mythical Knight... that man should be at that level too.
How did Alaric make that man submit to him?
He was filled with questions.
Suddenly, he sensed numerous presences ahead of them. He cleared his mind and gestured to his troops to halt.
With a deep breath, he ordered his men. "Prepare for battle!"
The warriors of House Namgung circulated their mana as they looked up ahead.
A large group of warriors emerged, riding on top of their horses as they slowly approached Namgung Ri’s group.
Leading them was a warrior whose eyes were wrapped in a white cloth. Other than him, several warriors exuded powerful auras.
Namgung Ri immediately recognized the blind man.
"You must be Caecus, the most loyal sword of Alaric."
He had heard tales of this man, one more impressive than the other. At first, he thought that all those rumors were just exaggerated stories, but upon meeting him now, Namgung Ri realized that they were all true.
"It seems that you have already become a Mythical Knight. You have hidden yourself well, Caecus."
As confident as he was, he couldn’t help but feel nervous in the presence of this blind assassin.
"Sir Caecus, let’s not waste our breath on this vermin. Please give the order to attack!" Exclaimed the towering warrior riding next to Caecus.
Namgung Ri turned his head to the towering warrior. He also recognized this guy.
"And you must be Sir Galanar. I’ve heard so much about you."
If Caecus was known for his assassination and mobility arts, Galanar was known for his ferocity on the battlefield. He was even described as a rampaging demon.
Looking at these two famous warriors, Namgung Ri lost all hope of survival.
He knew that he would be killed today.
"Please spare my wife. I will willingly die without a fight. Just please grant me this favor." While saying this, he signaled to his men to lower their weapons.
Seeing this, the loyal warriors of House Namgung sheathed their weapons.
Caecus, who was silent the entire time, finally spoke, his voice devoid of emotion. "I must apologize, Lord Namgung Ri. I was ordered to exterminate your household, and that includes your wife."
Namgung Ri sighed. He raised his sword and pointed it at Caecus. "Then I challenge you to a duel. If I win, spare my men and my wife. If I lose, you may do as you wish."
Between Galanar and Caecus, he believed that he had a higher chance of winning against the latter.
"Do you dare accept my challenge?!" His voice rang across the air.
Galanar was about to lose his patience, but Caecus suddenly stopped him with a gesture. "He may be the son of a vermin, but he is a true warrior. Leave him to me."
After saying those words, he unsheathed his sword and sent Namgung Ri a deep look. "I accept your challenge."
The two warriors dismounted and faced off in the middle of the two opposing forces.
The atmosphere was tense, but both groups tacitly agreed to stay still.
"With Aru as our witness, I hope that you will accept the result of this duel." Namgung Ri spoke as he sent a stream of mana into his sword.
