Chapter 631 Yskaela’s Feelings
Chapter 631 Yskaela’s Feelings
While Alaric was playing with the twins, a series of knocks on the door interrupted the warm atmosphere.
Lucas raised an eyebrow, his cold voice echoing. “Come in.”
Creak.
Galanar stepped inside the room and bowed. “I apologize for interrupting your conversation. We received word from our men that Her Majesty will arrive here soon.”
Hearing this, Lucas wasn’t surprised. He was the one who sent a message to the imperial palace so he already expected the empress’s arrival.
“Alright. Inform the warriors about this and form a team of fifty Knights to safeguard the estate’s premises.” Lucas instructed.
Galanar nodded. He saluted Alaric before he left to relay the duke’s instructions.
Jade Kristine held Alaric’s hand and said.
“I will tell the servants to make necessary preparations. You must take care of yourself, my son.”
Alaric smiled at his mother and nodded. “Yes, Mom.”
“Good. I will leave the twins with you.” Jade Kristine left after saying these words.
Lucas also left afterwards, leaving Alaric alone with his younger siblings.
…
An hour later, the imperial carriage arrived at House Silversword’s designated mansion.
When the empress alighted, she was warmly greeted by Jade Kristine and Lucas.
“You honor us with Your Majesty’s presence.” Lucas smiled faintly at the empress.
Jade Kristine also greeted her with a curtsy.
Yskaela could see the bright faces of the couple. “You two look more radiant now.”
“Is he really awake?” She confirmed.
Lucas nodded, chuckling. “By the grace of Aru, my son has finally regained consciousness. Haha!”
Yskaela was relieved to hear this. “That’s good. Is it convenient to visit him now?”
“That wouldn’t be a problem, Your Majesty. We will take you to see him.”
“Thank you.”
Yskaela followed the couple inside the mansion. Bai Seol-hwa trailed behind them without saying a word.
As they walked along the corridor, the empress suddenly felt a wave of nervousness. She didn’t know why, but the closer they got to Alaric’s bedchamber, the more nervous she felt.
What is happening to me?
Soon, they entered Alaric’s room. The strong scent of medicinal herbs assaulted their nostrils.
Yskaela saw Alaric sitting on his bed, playfully teasing a pair of twin babies.
For the first time in her life, she felt flustered. She stood motionless for a brief second before she slowly walked towards Alaric.
“Alaric… Your Highness…” Yskaela didn’t realize that her voice carried a trace of nearly undetectable emotion.
It wasn’t obvious, but the couple behind her seemed to have sensed this.
Alaric turned his head.
“Your Majesty, I can’t lift my body so please forgive me for not greeting you properly.” He smiled apologetically.
Looking at his frail face, Yskaela felt the urge to embrace him.
Alaric hadn’t eaten anything in the last two years so he lost a lot of weight. The only nutrition he received during this period was from liquified mana.
Yskaela took a deep breath to control her emotions. With a deep look at Alaric, she shook her head. “You don’t need to apologize to me, Alaric. You are the hero of Veronica. It is I who needs to apologize to you for making you suffer like this.”
The two exchanged pleasantries and their conversation flowed smoothly as if they were longtime friends.
In the middle of their conversation, Yskaela realized that she might have a slight affection for the young man.
Just when did it start? She questioned herself.
From the start, she chose Alaric as her prospective partner since he was the most fitting candidate among all the other men. He was a martial prodigy and he had the looks that would make any woman smitten.
She didn’t choose him because she liked him. It was merely out of necessity.
Veronica needed an heir and it was her duty as the sovereign of the country to produce the perfect heir.
Do I like him?
Yskaela couldn’t tell because this was the first time she experienced this kind of unusual emotion.
“…Your Majesty? Is there something wrong? You look like you have a lot on your mind.” Alaric’s voice drifted into her ears, pulling her from her stray thoughts.
“What were you saying again?” Yskaela composed herself and gestured at the people behind her to leave.
Seeing this, Lucas and Jade Kristine quietly left the room. Meanwhile, Bai Seol-hwa sent Alaric a deep look before she followed the couple outside.
“I was asking about the construction project. I heard from my father that…”
Their conversation continued for another hour.
Yskaela wanted to bring up the matter about the marriage proposal, but she couldn’t bring herself to mention it.
In the end, she missed the opportunity to discuss it with him.
With a soft sigh, she stood up and said. “I should leave now.”
She bent down to gently rub the faces of the twins who were sleeping in Alaric’s arms.
“I will send the imperial doctors to give you a thorough check-up. They are skilled people so they will be a great help to your household’s doctors.”
“I don’t want to trouble, Your Majesty.” Alaric waved his hand, politely rejecting her offer.
However, the empress sent him a firm look that allowed no refusal. “I insist. Veronica’s hero must be treated with the utmost care.”
Seeing that there was no room for negotiation, Alaric could only nod his head. “Thank you for Your Majesty’s care.”
Yskaela hesitated, seeming like she had something to say.
“I will visit you regularly and if you ever need anything, just send someone to the palace.”
She didn’t wait for his response and quickly stepped out of the room.
Upon stepping out, Yskaela let out a sigh.
I couldn’t bring up the topic. “Your Majesty.” Called out Bai Seol-hwa who was waiting in the corridor.
“Let’s go back.” Yskaela nodded.
As they walked along the corridor, Bai Seol-hwa couldn’t hold back her curiosity and asked. “Were you able to discuss it with him?”
Hearing this, Yskaela was a bit embarrassed, but she didn’t show it on her face. “Alaric just regained consciousness. He might be shocked if I were to mention it.”
Bai Seol-hwa didn’t sense anything amiss with her words so she just nodded in acknowledgment.
