Chapter 439: Lucas’s Decision
Chapter 439: Lucas’s Decision
Meanwhile, Alaric was in his study, reading the letter sent by Giovanni.
Mentioned in the letter was Giovanni’s displeasure that Alaric couldn’t come to his wedding.
Truthfully, Alaric wanted to attend his cousin’s wedding, but it just so happened that there was a situation in the Enchanted Woodlands.
Alaric smiled in amusement upon reading Giovanni’s rants.
A moment later, his face suddenly turned serious.
So he has finally gathered troops from the central region’s aristocrats and martial houses.
You have done well, Giovanni…
Alaric put down the letter and kept it inside his inner pocket.
He stood up and looked at the warrior who was silently standing by his side. “Caecus, we are heading to the lord’s office. He needs to see this letter.”
“As you wish, Your Highness,” Caecus responded with a nod of his head.
Alaric didn’t waste any time and stepped out of his study.
Caecus followed him quietly.
The two walked along the hallway and headed straight to Lucas’s office.
Alaric was in a hurry so they arrived in just a few minutes.
Upon arriving, Alaric knocked on the door and announced his arrival. “It’s me, my lord!”
“Come in. It’s unlocked.” Lucas’s voice echoed from inside the room.
Hearing this, Alaric pushed the door open and stepped inside the room together with Caecus.
Inside, they saw Lucas sitting behind his desk. Bastian, his trusty butler was not far from him, preparing a pot of tea.
Alaric bowed to his father and nodded to the butler.
Lucas nodded at him to acknowledge his greeting. He then beckoned to his son and gestured for him to take his seat.
“Is there something on your mind?” He asked while adjusting his sitting posture.
Alaric took his seat and nodded.
“Yes, my lord.” He took out the letter he had received and handed it to his father.
“Giovanni sent this letter. I have already read the contents.”
Seeing his serious expression, Lucas furrowed his eyebrows and took the letter.
While he was reading the letter, Bastian approached and quietly served tea for Alaric.
“Thank you, Sir Bastian.” Alaric smiled faintly.
The butler simply bowed his head and took a step back after pouring tea for him.
A while later, Lucas put down the letter and rubbed his temples.
“Is your decision final?” He asked.
Alaric knew what he was talking about and nodded, a trace of anger flashing in his eyes.
“Yes, my lord. I cannot forgive those bastards for attacking our lands!”
“Besides, I will never forgive their damned crown prince for coveting my mother!”
Lucas took a deep breath.
He knew that this day would come.
Alaric had already discussed this with him when he arrived from the western region.
Lucas was also furious that someone wanted to take his wife. He wanted to join his son in battle, but due to his special identity, he couldn’t carelessly leave the empire.
After mulling over it, he spoke.
“I will speak with His Majesty and convince him to send me to Harune. You must not act carelessly while I’m not there.”
His words were an admittance that the emperor was still in good health, but Alaric smartly avoided the topic.
Lucas didn’t want to admit it, but Harune was a lot stronger than Astania.
They had countless Transcendent Knights and even several Mythical Knights and Beast Soul Grandmasters.
There were even rumors that they had secretly allied with Veronica.
If that were true, the next battle might spark the biggest war in the history of the empire.
“My lord…” Alaric wanted to dissuade him, but…
Lucas raised his hand and said. “You don’t need to dissuade me. I have already made this decision some time ago.”
“Your mothers also agreed with my decision.”
Hearing this, Alaric sighed and leaned on his chair.
“Do you think His Majesty will accept your request?” He carefully asked.
Lucas didn’t answer right away. He grabbed his cup a took a small sip of tea to calm his nerves.
“I don’t know, but even if His Majesty rejects my request, I will still go.” He snorted domineeringly.
Alaric couldn’t help but smile at his words.
Suddenly, a series of knocks on the door interrupted their conversation.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Lucas kept the letter in his pocket before he sent Bastian a knowing look.
The butler understood his intentions and immediately went to open the door.
As soon as the door was opened, two people entered the room.
They were Rigor and Rasmus.
The two bowed deeply upon seeing them.
“Greetings, my lord!”
“Greetings, Your Highness!”
Alaric nodded, wondering what they had come here for.
Meanwhile, Lucas beckoned to the two with his hand. “Come here and take your seats.”
Rigor nodded his head and walked towards the vacant chairs. Rasmus nervously followed him.
“So… why did you two come to my study?” Lucas stared deeply at Rigor.
Rigor cleared his throat and replied awkwardly. “Uhm, actually, we came here to see His Highness…”
Lucas raised an eyebrow. “Is it so urgent that you have to interrupt my conversation with my son?”
“I apologize, my lord-”
Rigor couldn’t finish his words as Rasmus suddenly spoke.
“It’s my fault, my lord!” The young warrior looked nervous, but he didn’t want his instructor to take the blame for them.
Everyone turned their gaze to him.
Sensing that they were looking at him, Rasmus took a deep breath to gather his thoughts. After calming himself, he opened his mouth.
“We want to participate in the war!”
Everyone was stunned.
“What did you say?” Alaric frowned.
He knew that the next war would be more bloody and brutal. He had never planned on bringing the young warriors with him.
Rasmus could tell that Alaric was furious, but they had already made up their minds.
“Your Highness, we understand that you don’t want to put us in danger. We are grateful for your kindness. However…”
“We will never truly grow if we always choose to stay in a peaceful environment. We want to grow stronger and have enough power to stand by your side!”
Rasmus stood up and bowed deeply.
“Please grant us this opportunity!”
