Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord
Chapter 845 - 842 Part 1
Chapter 845: Chapter 842 Part 1
Outside the volcanic valley deep within the Forbidden Mountains.
There was a rock cave here. At this moment, Santner was leaning against the cave wall, biting into a wild fruit mouthful by mouthful, muttering something under his breath.
"That damn Karl, to actually dare deceive me," Santner’s voice was filled with anger. He hadn’t expected Karl to desert at the last minute and trick him.
That night, when Karl went out to find wild fruits and firewood, he waited in the cave. Hour after hour passed, yet Karl never returned.
Even when the next day arrived, it was the same—Karl still didn’t appear. Only then was Santner certain that he had run away.
"Once I find the Divine Heavenly Kingdom, I’ll come settle the score with you," Santner said coldly. At the mention of the Divine Heavenly Kingdom, a fanatical fervor filled his eyes. However, paired with his bloodless, ghastly pale face, it looked incredibly eerie.
Over the past few days, he had tried entering the valley by himself. But before he could get very far, he was frightened away by the roar of the giant beast and fled in terror.
"Roar..."
A roar echoed from outside again, startling Santner so much that he shimmied further into the cave.
"I must reach the Divine Heavenly Kingdom! I want to be immortal!" Santner yelled crazily in a low voice, swallowing the wild fruit in his hand in a few quick bites.
Then he stumbled to his feet and walked out of the cave. He was going to try again.
Reaching the cave entrance, he pricked up his ears and carefully listened to the movements outside. After a while, he stepped out confidently, set his direction, and headed towards the valley.
"Don’t appear, don’t appear," Santner muttered softly, praying internally at the same time. He prayed that no accidents would occur and that he would smoothly find the Divine Heavenly Kingdom.
Santner arrived at the valley entrance. He hesitated for a moment, but his rationality was ultimately swallowed by fanaticism, and he continued walking inside.
The massive footprints on the ground, although not his first time seeing them, still made his scalp tingle.
After walking a short distance inward, he discovered scattered bones on the ground ahead, with flies buzzing around them. Evidently, the owner of these bones hadn’t been dead for long—ten days at most.
Not far away lay a knight’s longsword.
Upon seeing this longsword, Santner’s expression instantly changed. He recognized whose sword it was.
"Why is the sword Karl took that night here?" Santner said in astonishment. He formulated several guesses in his mind. Did Karl go in the wrong direction after leaving the cave and accidentally enter the valley? Or did he plan to abandon me and find the Divine Heavenly Kingdom by himself?
Regardless of which outcome it was, it was unforgivable to Santner. However, since Karl was already dead, he wouldn’t even know who to take his revenge on anymore.
"Good that you’re dead," A look of savage gratification crossed Santner’s face, and he spat several times at the skeletal remains.

Meanwhile, in a place Santner hadn’t noticed, several black specks in the distant sky were quietly approaching.
"Big Sister, don’t be impulsive," Salina said deeply. She looked at Rhea beside her, a trace of worry in her eyes.
"Don’t worry, I know my limits. We cannot lose any more people this time," Rhea stated calmly, though a murderous intent lurked in the depths of her eyes.
Salina nodded. Behind her followed three other birdkin.
They had actually arrived several days ago, but they were on the other side of the valley, where the black oil fruits were most abundant. Over the past few days, they had been helping to find a suitable location to set up camp and building a temporary base.
"I just don’t know exactly how many dragons are in this valley," Salina looked down at the valley and spoke gravely.
"No matter how many there are, we must kill them all," Rhea said coldly.
Salina understood. This wasn’t just for revenge; it was also because the black oil fruits were located not far away, and the temporary base was built right there. The presence of dragons was a massive threat that had to be eliminated.
Rhea cast her gaze toward the entrance of the valley. Saying nothing more, she approached the valley.
On the ground, near the valley entrance, over a dozen people were advancing rapidly. These were the special operatives of Sedona City, led by Number Four of the war wolves squad. Their main mission in entering the valley this time was to coordinate with Rhea to complete the dragon slaying.
"Everyone be careful. We are about to enter the valley. Lighten your footsteps," Number Four ordered in a low voice, leading the team from the front.
"Yes, sir," Everyone responded softly.
"Our primary objective this time is to protect Miss Rhea and her team. But you must also prioritize your own safety. Obey orders and do not act independently," Number Four stated deeply.
"Yes, sir," Everyone responded softly again.
Number Four suddenly raised a hand, and everyone came to a halt. Looking at a massive footprint appearing on the ground before him, an incredibly grave expression settled on his face. This mission was going to be extremely dangerous.
"Everyone stay sharp," Number Four reminded them once more. He drew his crossbow and loaded a bolt.
Seeing this, the others didn’t utter a word and pulled out their own crossbows, loading their bolts. The path ahead would likely be fraught with danger.
As they neared the valley entrance, they paused again.
"Falcon, Tiger, Snake, you three stay here at the entrance to cover our retreat. The rest of you, come inside with me," Number Four pointed at the three men and ordered quietly.
"Yes, sir," The three called out in unison.
Leaving the three behind, Number Four led the rest of the team into the valley.
In the sky, Rhea, Salina, and the others began to descend, circling above the valley in search of their target.
"Big Sister, look over there. Is that a person?" Salina suddenly spoke up, pointing at the ground not far ahead.
Rhea frowned and looked in the direction Salina was pointing. Sure enough, she saw a figure advancing cautiously.
"Who is this person? Daring to enter the valley all alone," Rhea said coldly. Because the distance was a bit far, she couldn’t see clearly who it was.
"Should I go down and take a look?" Salina whispered.
"No. Don’t forget the lesson from last time," Rhea refused sternly.
Salina nodded, sorrow flashing in her eyes. One of their deceased birdkin had died precisely because he flew too low while investigating the situation, getting bitten to death directly by the dragon.
"Regardless of who he is, he’s just courting death," Rhea said coldly again. Even from a distance, she could tell his attire wasn’t that of a special operative, which meant he wasn’t one of Lucas’s people.
"Roar..."
Suddenly, a beast’s roar rang out, causing the special operatives’ footsteps to halt, grave expressions washing over their faces.
Rhea and the others also perked up. They knew the dragon was coming out.
As for Santner, who was inside the valley, his expression changed drastically.
