Chapter 332: Chapter 184: I’ll Give You That
"Uncle!" Zhou Momo finally called out to Zhou Weiguo.
"Momo, you’re here too?" Zhou Weiguo smiled and picked her up, then looked at Zhou Yan. "What’s going on? You two playing hero and catching thieves?"
"Momo and I were going to the city to shop. We passed a bus stopped on the side of the road, and as soon as the doors opened, Ming started kicking them out one by one. I saw they had knives and was worried Ming would be at a disadvantage, so I grabbed a stick to help. Jie took down three of them by himself. A national martial arts champion for a reason," Zhou Yan explained briefly.
"A national Emei Fist champion," Zhou Ming corrected.
"Same difference. A champion’s a champion," Zhou Yan said with a laugh.
"Those guys are despicable. Stealing from the elderly is bad enough, but they were also harassing women. I couldn’t just stand by, so I stepped in. I didn’t expect them to have so many accomplices," Zhou Ming said with a smile. "Zhou Yan was a huge help. If he hadn’t warned me and handed me that stick, my injuries today would be much worse than this."
"You both did well. You’ve got guts. True sons of the Zhou Family," Zhou Weiguo said, nodding at the two of them. "Come on, let’s get those wounds treated first, then you can cooperate with the comrades at the police station. Once the case is closed, I’ll apply for a Good Samaritan commendation for you."
"Sounds good," Zhou Yan and Zhou Ming replied with a smile and a nod.
Zhou Yan ran to get his bike, put Zhou Ming and Zhou Momo on it, and headed back to Suji. He first took them to the clinic to get their wounds disinfected and bandaged, then dropped Zhou Momo off at the restaurant before heading straight to the police station.
After the guard heard what happened, he led the two of them inside.
Zhou Yan glanced at his watch and said to the police officer taking statements, "Comrade, I’m a chef at a restaurant, and I’m in a hurry to get back to cook. Would it be possible for you to take my statement first?"
"No problem. You go first." The officer smiled and nodded. They naturally gave priority to a model youth who had acted so heroically.
Zhou Yan’s statement was relatively simple. He had jumped in halfway through as support and wasn’t clear on what happened on the bus, nor had he been involved in it. He finished his statement in about ten minutes.
"Ming, after you’re done here, come over to my restaurant for dinner. We’ll have a little get-together," Zhou Yan said to Zhou Ming.
"Alright. You go on back and cook," Zhou Ming said with a smile and a nod.
When Zhou Yan rode his bike back to the restaurant, Zhou Momo was at the entrance, vividly telling Mrs. Zhao, Comrade Zhou, and the others how the two of them had subdued the bad guys and left them howling in pain.
"Well, well, if it isn’t our great hero, Comrade Zhou Yan," Mrs. Zhao said as she got up, walked over, and circled him, asking with concern, "Are you hurt?"
"I’m not hurt. I just handed Ming a stick," Zhou Yan said with a smile. "He’s a national champion for a reason. One swing, one bad guy down. They were all howling in pain."
Mrs. Zhao breathed a sigh of relief and slapped his arm lightly. "Next time you see someone with a knife, you run! Don’t try to be a hero! Zhou Ming knows Martial Arts. You know how to use a kitchen cleaver. It’s not the same."
"I know, I know. If it hadn’t been Ming today, I would’ve grabbed Zhou Momo and run as far away as possible," Zhou Yan nodded, his attitude utterly sincere.
’He’d always been one to cherish his life. He only got involved today because of Zhou Ming. He couldn’t just stand by and watch a brother get surrounded by knife-wielding thugs while he was empty-handed.’
"Brother is a hero! He’s a good person!" Zhou Momo ran over to stand in front of Zhou Yan, looking at Mrs. Zhao. "Mama, you have to respect him!"
Everyone laughed at her words.
Mrs. Zhao smiled too, looking at Zhou Momo. "Were you hoping to get in on the action too?"
Zhou Momo nodded vigorously, clenching her little fists. "I want to learn Martial Arts! I want to be a policewoman and catch bad guys!"
"Well done!" Comrade Zhou came forward and patted Zhou Yan on the upper arm, his eyes filled with gratification.
Zhou Yan’s lips curved into a smile all men would understand.
The two plaques at the Zhou Family’s Old Mansion weren’t just for show. The men of the Zhou Family all had courage in their blood.
’To run away from something like this would have been the real disgrace.’
"Zhou Ming is injured. Should we notify Third Brother and Third Sister-in-law?" Mrs. Zhao asked, looking at Comrade Zhou.
Comrade Zhou shook his head. "No need. Let Zhou Ming tell them about this minor injury himself when he gets back. Otherwise, they’ll rush over to town, worried sick, and who knows how long they’ll wait outside the police station. The longer they wait, the more they’ll panic."
"Ming just told me the same thing," Zhou Yan nodded. ’This must be the unspoken understanding among the men of the Zhou family.’ "I told him to come to the restaurant for dinner after he’s done with his statement."
"Then does that mean I can learn martial arts with Brother Mingming?" Zhou Momo sidled up, her eyes full of expectation.
"That depends on whether he’ll take you as a student," Zhou Yan laughed, pulling four magazines from his bag and handing them to Mrs. Zhao. "I bought four."
"You keep one to send to Xia Yao," Mrs. Zhao said, handing one back to him.
Zhou Yan said, "I already set one aside..."
"Alright. Not a complete blockhead, then," Mrs. Zhao said with a beaming smile.
"Brother, what about the hat for Grandma? Let Mama see," Zhou Momo said, gently tugging on Zhou Yan’s bag.
"You even bought a hat for your grandma?" Mrs. Zhao was a little surprised.
"Momo said Grandma’s hat was worn out and she wanted to buy her a new one for the winter so she wouldn’t be cold. She’s much more thoughtful than I am. All I know is to buy liquor," Zhou Yan said with a laugh as he pulled the purple hat from his bag.
"And it’s a proper hat, too. How lovely! The stitching is so neat. It must be machine-knit, right?" Mrs. Zhao said, taking the hat and nodding in approval.
"The purple is such a comforting color, and the style is lovely too!" Zhao Hong added with a nod.
