Chapter 246: The Fey Sovereign’s Plea, A Cosmic Catalyst

  • Next Chapter

Tens of thousands of players sprinted desperately back toward the safety of the tree line. They abandoned their heavy siege weapons, dropping their expensive tower shields and longswords just to shed weight and run faster. They trampled each other in their panic, completely desperate to escape the relentless, agonizing beams of white light sweeping across the field.

Up on the high battlements, Sera watched the massive army scatter like terrified insects.

She didn’t cheer. She just smiled. It was a cold, satisfied, incredibly professional smile.

"Well," Casanova laughed, leaning casually against one of the silent ballistas. The automated turrets had ceased firing the moment the last hostile player crossed back over the perimeter line. "I guess we don’t have to worry about neighborhood watch. Our home security system is flawless."

"The Citadel is entirely secure," Nyx confirmed, tapping her datapad rapidly as she analyzed the brief combat logs. "They won’t come back. The psychological damage is absolute. No one is going to volunteer to siege a fortress that actively inflicts real-world trauma."

"I almost feel bad for them," Lila whispered, looking at the smoking trenches and the massive piles of dropped gear littering the field outside the gates.

"Don’t," Mei said cheerfully, spinning her massive frying pan. "They came here to burn our house down. They got what they paid for."

Sera turned away from the wall.

"The perimeter is clear," Sera announced, walking back toward the sweeping obsidian staircase that led down to the main courtyard. "Let’s go back inside and organize the vault. Dante is going to need his inventory sorted when he gets back from his quest."

The squad followed her down the stairs, leaving the smoking battlefield behind. Aegis Vanguard didn’t need a massive, fifty-thousand-man standing army to defend their territory. They had a building that defended itself.

Far away from the safety of the Citadel, Dante was navigating a completely different kind of hostility.

The Mists of Carnage were still thick and oppressive. He had crushed the [Spatial Stone] and bypassed the initial encounter with the remnant soul, Lin, after securing his class advancement. But he hadn’t left the forbidden zone entirely.

He was walking through a narrow, jagged canyon carved entirely from massive, fossilized bones.

The ambient noise of the zone was dead silent, but Dante’s localized communication interface suddenly pinged. It wasn’t a standard party message or a regional chat alert. It was a highly encrypted, direct magical transmission that bypassed standard systemic channels.

[Incoming Psychic Transmission: The Beast-Emperor]

Dante paused, his red eyes narrowing.

He had severed the mind-control code holding the Beast-Emperor hostage in Theria, freeing the Super-Divine entity from Silas’s grasp. He had expected the Emperor to be grateful, but a direct psychic link was unusual.

"Speak," Dante replied mentally, accepting the connection.

*"Champion,"* the deep, resonant voice of the Beast-Emperor echoed in Dante’s mind. The voice was clear, completely devoid of the aggressive green static that had previously corrupted it. *"I owe you my sanity, and my continent owes you its survival. But the Arch-Administrator’s localized purge protocol was not the final threat."*

"I figured," Dante said, continuing his walk down the bone canyon. "The system tried to drop a deletion beam on me after I cleared the Crucible. I blocked it, but the AI is definitely paying attention now."

*"The Arch-Administrator is not merely an observer,"* the Emperor warned gravely. *"It is an active, parasitic engine. Your continuous disruptions are starving it. To fully sever its grip on the world’s underlying code, we require a specific cosmic catalyst."*

"A catalyst," Dante repeated. "Let me guess. It’s hidden in a highly dangerous, incredibly difficult endgame zone."

*"It is located deep within the Fey Continent,"* the Emperor confirmed. *"It is called the [Tear of the World Tree]. It is a crystallized fragment of pure, uncorrupted foundational mana."*

Dante frowned. The Fey Continent. The Zenith Protocol was divided into five distinct realms. He had already broken the seals on the Beast-Kin continent, but the other realms were supposed to be locked.

*"The Fey Continent has been isolated,"* the Emperor explained, sensing Dante’s hesitation. *"Not by an administrative lock, but by a massive localized glitch known as the Mirage Mire. The system is actively deteriorating there. The Fey Sovereign, Titania, is losing a brutal war of attrition against corrupted code-beasts."*

The Arch-Administrator wasn’t just trying to purge Dante. It was actively corrupting the other continents, likely trying to assimilate their raw cosmic weight to stabilize the failing server architecture.

*"If Titania falls, the Fey Continent will be completely overwritten by the Void-Blight,"* the Emperor pleaded. *"You must intervene, Champion. You are the only entity capable of bypassing the glitch."*

Dante reached into his infinite inventory and pulled out the dark gray [Spatial Stone].

He didn’t have his squad. He didn’t have Aria’s massive healing song or Lila’s gravity magic. He was completely alone.

But he had the [Asura Vanguard] class. He had [Voidsever]. And he was incredibly tired of the Arch-Administrator treating the server like a slaughterhouse.

"I’ll handle the glitch," Dante promised the Beast-Emperor. "Send me the coordinates for the Mirage Mire."

The psychic link severed, leaving a set of incredibly complex, heavily corrupted spatial coordinates flashing in Dante’s system interface.

Dante didn’t hesitate. He crushed the [Spatial Stone] in his dark purple gauntlet.

The gray vortex violently erupted, swallowing him whole, preparing to spit him out into a reality-warping nightmare.

————————-

The transition through the [Spatial Stone] was jarring.

Dante didn’t materialize on solid ground. He stumbled, his heavy iron boots sinking ankle-deep into thick, viscous, aggressively purple mud. The air smelled of rotting flowers and ozone.

The environment wasn’t a standard, pre-rendered zone. It was actively glitching.

The towering, weeping willow trees surrounding him didn’t sway naturally. Their branches jittered back and forth, skipping frames of animation. The sky wasn’t a cohesive color; it was a fragmented mosaic of blue, green, and harsh, blinding white static.

[Zone Alert: The Mirage Mire]

[Hazard Detected: Severe Systemic Deterioration.]

[Warning: Localized reality parameters are unstable. Visual and auditory hallucinations imminent.]

Dante pulled his iron boots out of the thick mud, stepping onto a slightly firmer patch of glowing, neon-blue moss.

He had arrived on the Fey Continent.

"The system is actively failing here," Dante muttered, looking at a nearby tree branch that was completely detached from the trunk, hovering in mid-air.

He didn’t have time to admire the broken architecture. His private message interface pinged, a direct psychic transmission bypassing the standard game channels.

[Incoming Psychic Transmission: The Beast-Emperor]

"I’m here," Dante replied mentally, accepting the connection. "The coordinates were accurate, but the zone is a mess."

*"You have entered the Mirage Mire,"* the deep, resonant voice of the Beast-Emperor echoed in his mind. *"It is not a natural hazard, Champion. It is a localized, spreading infection of the system’s core code. The Arch-Administrator is actively attempting to overwrite the Fey Continent."*

"I can see that," Dante said, watching a small, glowing fairy glitch into a pixelated cube before vanishing entirely. "Why send me here? I’m not a developer. I can’t write a patch."

*"You possess the Anti-Virus,"* the Emperor corrected him. *"The shattered blade you carry, [Voidsever], is capable of severing corrupted code. You are the only entity on the server that can physically interact with the glitch without being assimilated."*

Dante glanced down at his right wrist. The dark, jagged brand of the primordial greatsword pulsed softly, the white veins of the [Source Code Fragment] glowing with aggressive, localized authority.

*"But severing the corruption is not enough,"* the Emperor continued, his voice heavy with urgency. *"To fully sever the Arch-Administrator’s grip on the world’s underlying code and prevent future continental purges, we require a specific cosmic catalyst."*

"Let me guess," Dante sighed. "It’s hidden at the end of a massive, incredibly dangerous dungeon."

*"It is called the [Tear of the World Tree],"* the Emperor explained. *"It is a crystallized fragment of pure, uncorrupted foundational mana. It is located deep within the Mire, near the Radiant Lake. The Fey Sovereign, Titania, is the guardian of the Tear."*

"Then I’ll just go ask her for it," Dante said simply.

*"It is not that simple,"* the Emperor warned. *"Titania is losing a brutal war of attrition against the corrupted code-beasts spawned by the Mire. Her localized forces are decimated. If she falls, the Tear of the World Tree will be absorbed by the Arch-Administrator, and the Fey Continent will be permanently deleted."*

Dante crossed his arms. He didn’t have his squad. He was completely solo in a zone where the very fabric of reality was breaking down.

"I’ll secure the catalyst," Dante promised. "And I’ll make sure the Sovereign doesn’t zero out."

*"May the true system guide your blade,"* the Emperor rumbled, the psychic connection severing.

Dante dismissed his interface.

He drew the [Dawn-Breaker Blade]. He didn’t summon [Voidsever] yet. He wanted to conserve the primordial weapon for major structural anomalies or high-tier boss encounters.

He activated [Dragon’s Insight].

The visual transition was nauseating. The analytical grid of underlying system code was a chaotic, tangled mess of bright red warning lines and dead, gray sectors. The Mirage Mire wasn’t just visually glitched; the actual navigational pathing was entirely corrupted. What looked like solid ground was often a bottomless pit of deleted code.

Dante used the grid to carefully plot a safe path through the shifting, pixelated mud, heading deeper into the swamp.

He hadn’t been walking for more than ten minutes when he heard it.

It wasn’t the roar of a monster or the ambient hum of static.

It was the frantic, splashing sound of someone running for their life.

Dante stopped, dropping into a low crouch behind a massive, glowing blue fern. He kept his sword ready.

A figure burst through the thick, hanging vines a few dozen yards ahead.

It was a young girl, entirely out of place in the toxic swamp. She wore a simple, tattered, hooded cloak over an elegant, shimmering silver dress. Her long, pointed ears were pinned back in absolute terror.

She wasn’t a player. The system interface above her head flashed.

[Entity Identified: Seren]

[Faction: Royal Sylvan (Fey)]

[Level: 35]

[Status: Magic Sealed]

She stumbled, her delicate boots sinking deep into the purple mud. She fell forward, crying out as she hit the sludge.

She didn’t try to get up. She scrambled backward, staring in horror at the path she had just run down.

The vines violently parted.

Five massive, heavily armored figures stepped into the clearing. They were Fey, but they weren’t elegant or glowing with nature magic. Their armor was heavily corrupted, pulsing with aggressive green static. Their eyes burned with the exact same mind-controlled light Dante had seen in the Beast-Kin army.

[Monster Spawn: Corrupted Fey-Hunter]

[Tier: Gold]

[Level: 45]

[HP: 65,000 / 65,000]

"You cannot run from the New Order, Princess," the lead hunter sneered, drawing a long, jagged blade that dripped with corrupted code. "The Sovereign is weak. The Architect offers us perfection."

"He offers you slavery!" Seren screamed, scrambling further back into the mud. "You are destroying the realm!"

The hunters didn’t argue. They raised their blades, stepping forward to execute the Level 35 NPC.

Dante didn’t wait.

He didn’t activate [Asura’s Descent]. He didn’t need a massive, risky buff to handle five Level 45 Gold mobs.

[Skill Executed: Phantom Dash]

Because of [Chrono-Shift], the Zenith-tier mobility skill triggered instantly, completely bypassing the mana cost and the cooldown.

Dante vanished from behind the glowing blue fern.

He materialized directly in the center of the five Corrupted Fey-Hunters.

*BOOM.*

The localized sonic boom of his materialization detonated point-blank. The incredible kinetic force didn’t just stun the hunters; it violently knocked them off their feet, throwing them backward into the mud.

[Guaranteed Stun Applied. Duration: 1 Second.]

Dante didn’t give them a chance to recover.

He gripped the [Dawn-Breaker Blade] with both hands and swung a rapid, brutal horizontal sweep.

His base Attack Power, sitting at an absurd 5,110 from his [Frost-God Constitution] and [Asura Vanguard] modifiers, hit with devastating force. Combined with his guaranteed 100% Critical Hit Chance and the sword’s passive bonus damage against corrupted entities, the strike was mathematically overwhelming.

[-38,000! Critical Hit!]

[-38,000! Critical Hit!]

[-38,000! Critical Hit!]

The hunters’ health bars plummeted. The one-second stun expired, but they were too heavily damaged to mount a counterattack.

Dante didn’t stop. He chained a rapid flurry of basic strikes, utilizing his high Agility to dance between the staggered mobs.

[-42,000! Critical Hit! OVERKILL!]

In less than three seconds, the five Gold-tier elite hunters were completely atomized. They exploded into massive showers of blue and silver polygons, instantly deleted from the server.

[Target Eliminated: Corrupted Fey-Hunter x5]

Dante sheathed his gold broadsword, slowly turning around to face the girl sitting in the mud.

Seren stared at him, her eyes wide with absolute, unadulterated shock. She looked at the massive, dark purple plating of his [Evil Spirit Armor] and the heavy, starry fabric of his cloak.

Then, her eyes locked onto his shoulder.

She saw the small, intricate silver insignia etched into the metal. The [Zenith Epaulet].

"The Conqueror of the Abyss," Seren whispered, her voice trembling. "The rumors... they are true. You bypassed the lockdown."

Dante crossed his arms. "You’re a long way from a safe zone, Princess."

Seren scrambled to her feet, completely ignoring the thick purple mud clinging to her silver dress. She didn’t look terrified anymore. She looked incredibly desperate.

"Please," Seren begged, taking a step toward him. "You have to help me. I am Seren, Crown Princess of the Fey. My mother, Sovereign Titania, is trapped."

"Trapped where?" Dante asked.

"At Radiant Lake," Seren explained rapidly, tears welling in her eyes. "The heart of our realm. A traitor within her own court... Raijin, the Clan Leader of the Storm-Manes... he allied with the System Enforcers. He placed a localized administrative seal on my magic, preventing me from fighting. He intends to execute my mother and surrender the continent to the Arch-Administrator’s corruption."

The system interface immediately popped up in Dante’s vision, flashing a brilliant, urgent gold.

[Hidden Quest Triggered: The Runaway Princess]

[Classification: SSS-Rank (Escort)]

[Objective: Safely escort Princess Seren through the Mirage Mire to Radiant Lake. Ensure her survival.]

[Reward: Faction Allegiance (Fey), Massive EXP Bonus.]

Dante stared at the prompt.

Another escort mission. He hated escort missions. The NPCs usually had terrible pathing system and dragged aggro from every single mob in the zone.

But he couldn’t leave her here, and she knew the way to the lake.

"I’ll take you to your mother," Dante said, hitting the ’Accept’ button. "But we play by my rules. You stay behind me. You don’t pull aggro. You don’t touch anything glowing."

"I understand," Seren nodded frantically. "Thank you. Thank you so much."
