Star Ship Girl Era: My Shipgirls Are Too Overpowered

Chapter 372: Saevor Drann’s Order 3

"What about Drann?" Astra asked.

Eirenne immediately opened the captured captain’s final statement and brought the relevant part onto the main display.

"He believes Drann is preparing to abandon several outer Compact positions."

Aurelian looked up from the map.

"Why?"

"Because he expects a Human counterattack."

Rhoswen smiled at that.

"Finally, someone gives us proper credit."

Aurelian ignored her and focused on the useful part.

"Which positions?"

Several markers appeared across the map.

Three small supply stations.

One research outpost.

Two mining settlements.

And a military depot near the route Taran had used while retreating.

Aurelian understood the situation almost immediately.

Drann was pulling useful people, ships, and supplies farther inward because he expected the Crownward March to strike back.

That meant the outer positions would probably be weakened first, then stripped of anything important once the withdrawal started properly.

Astra studied the markers for a few seconds.

"You are thinking about attacking them."

"Not now."

Rhoswen’s expression dropped slightly.

Aurelian continued before she could complain.

"But we should watch them."

That was enough for now.

If Drann was moving resources inward, then there would be transports and escort groups. Those ships would use routes, and routes could be watched.

More importantly, hurried withdrawals created mistakes. Someone would leave equipment behind.

Someone would load the wrong ship. Someone would fail to destroy records because they thought they had more time.

Aurelian didn’t need another raid immediately, especially while Sanctuary Ardent was still damaged and full of people who had only just started waking up.

He only needed to watch.

Then, if an opening appeared, he could decide whether it was worth taking.

"Eirenne, monitor every outer Compact position listed by the courier captain. Passive observation only."

"Understood."

"Have Solenne add them to the scouting priorities too."

"I will."

Rhoswen looked at him.

"So we wait."

"For now."

"You say that a lot."

"Because rushing into every fight you see is how fleets disappear."

She narrowed her eyes.

"That sounds aimed at me."

"It was general advice."

"It sounded very specific."

Astra didn’t bother hiding the slight smile on her face.

Before Rhoswen could continue arguing, another update came through the command center.

Lysara’s new passive sensor line had picked up a ship leaving one of the deeper approaches inside Mournveil.

The identification was unclear.

The engine reading wasn’t.

Compact.

Aurelian opened the route map immediately.

The missing scout had found Mournveil.

More importantly, it had stayed alive long enough to reach one of the paths that could eventually lead toward Helion Bastion Twelve.

That made it far more serious than the scout they had already captured.

"Distance from Helion?" he asked.

"Seven hours at current speed," Eirenne replied.

"Does it know Helion is there?"

"Unknown."

That uncertainty was enough.

Aurelian opened a direct channel to Lysara.

She answered almost immediately.

"I see it."

"Can you stop it quietly?"

"Yes."

"How?"

Lysara brought up the local sensor map.

"There is a dust front ahead of its current route. Once the scout enters it, outside sensors will lose clean contact for nearly eleven minutes. I can move a patrol to the far side and catch it there."

That was good enough.

"Capture if possible."

"And if capture fails?"

"Do not let it transmit."

Lysara nodded once.

"That is enough."

The channel closed.

Rhoswen looked toward the route map with obvious disappointment.

"You are letting her have all the fun."

"She is already at Helion."

"I could reach Helion."

"Not in seven hours."

Rhoswen stared at the map as the distance had personally insulted her.

"That is inconvenient."

Aurelian ignored that and returned his attention to the sanctuary display.

The situation was becoming clearer now.

One Compact scout had already been captured.

Another had reached Mournveil and was now moving dangerously close to Helion.

Saevor Drann was pulling back from several outer positions, which meant he was worried about a Human counterattack but still willing to keep watching for weaknesses.

At the same time, the Alliance survey vessel was approaching from the other direction.

Sanctuary Ardent was still being repaired.

The new civil council had barely started working.

Thousands of awakened survivors were still being moved, treated, and organized.

Nothing was truly stable yet.

But Aurelian finally had something he had been missing when this whole crisis started.

Information.

He could see what the Compact was doing instead of reacting after the fact.

He could see the Alliance coming before they arrived.

He knew which routes were being tested and which positions Drann might be preparing to abandon.

That gave him room to make choices before someone else forced them on him.

And for now, that was enough.

"Send Astercourt the latest security report," he said. "The council needs to know the Compact is scouting our routes."

Eirenne nodded.

"And the Alliance officer?"

"We tell her the system remains under active threat."

"That may strengthen our argument for limiting access."

"It also happens to be true."

Aurelian didn’t need to exaggerate anything.

The Compact was still probing.

A scout had already reached Mournveil.

Another force could follow if that ship managed to escape.

Restricted access wasn’t just convenient anymore. It was a reasonable security decision.

Outside Sanctuary Ardent, Solenne began adjusting her patrol pattern based on the new threat information.

Her carrier groups spread farther from the sanctuary while keeping enough strength close to respond if something unexpected appeared.

Arcturus engineers continued repairing the damaged shield network below, working through old systems one section at a time while Eirenne fed them updated priorities.

Far away, Lysara prepared the interception near the edge of Mournveil, placing ships where the Compact scout would have the least warning once it entered the dust front.

At Larkspur Haven, warning levels went up, and local defense ships moved closer to the main settlement zones.

At Helion Bastion Twelve, ancient sensor systems turned back toward the hidden routes and began searching for anything else Drann might have sent.

The Crownward March wasn’t being watched from only one direction anymore.

The Compact wanted to know how weak it was.

The Alliance wanted to know what had been discovered.

And both sides had reasons to keep looking.

Aurelian had no intention of giving either one more information than they actually needed.

The Compact didn’t need to know how much of the March had already been reinforced.

The Alliance didn’t need full access to Sanctuary Ardent before its own people had even finished forming a government.

There would be time for diplomacy later.

There would be time for larger military action later too.

Right now, the priority was simple.

Stabilize the sanctuary.

Protect the routes.

Watch Drann.

Stop the scouts.

And make sure nobody reached deeper into the Crownward March before he was ready for them.

Aurelian looked once more at the map showing Haven, Helion, Mournveil, and Sanctuary Ardent.

The territory was growing.

So were the problems around it.

That was expected.

But this time, he wasn’t blind to them.

Sanctuary Ardent had survived for centuries because almost nobody understood what was hidden beneath its surface.

That protection was ending.

From now on, it would have to survive because the people defending it were ready.
