Chapter 4618: Arent You Tired?
Chapter 4618: Aren't You Tired?
Outside of Manifest City, the white figure continued to stare at Lu Yin while doing nothing at all.
Even so, he felt a growing chill, as if another pair of eyes was staring at his life. The life being stared at was his own, and the staring made it feel like it was difficult to control his own life.
Was this the power of a Primacy Path? Was this the deprivation of life?
The chaos filling the Aevum Inch stemmed from changes to all external, objective powers, and life fell under that category as well.
No matter how much power Lu Yin possessed, what use was it if he lacked even the qualification to fight?
“You may join the Sequences of the Life Primacy. As for civilization, birth and destruction are normal. There is no need to care too much.” The voice came from outside Manifest City, from the white figure.
Lu Yin stared at the figure, but he had no intention of wasting any words on it. He was willing to argue with Hong Xia because Hong Xia was still human. However, this white figure gave Lu Yin the feeling that, not only was it not human, but it somehow did not even feel like a living creature.
There was no need to argue with such an entity.
He simply remembered the words “Sequences of the Life Primacy.”
“Just enduring isn’t enough. How can we leave?” Lu Yin asked.
You Che replied, “Just teleport away with Manifest City. That is the only way to force it: facing it head on.”
Lu Yin did not hesitate. He stepped out of Manifest City and raised his hand. The city began to shrink.
Such a scene had never appeared before. The megaverses were shrinking. Endless expanses of multiple universes were shrinking, and everything within them was also shrinking.
However, the beings within Manifest City could not feel themselves shrinking. In their perception, they remained within their own universe.
“Help me. My heartforce isn’t enough!” Lu Yin shouted.
You Che made no move.
Lu Yin gritted his teeth. “I absolutely will not abandon the Trio. At worst, all of us will die here when it is time, and you can also forget about surviving. You schemed until the very end just to end up with nothing. Is that really what you want?”
You Che’s voice dropped low. “Lu Yin, give up. Back then, even the Nine Ramparts gave up. I will seize control of Manifest City, and I will guarantee that I will not do anything to you. You can live.”
“‘Young Master Che,’ do you really think that I will give up?” Lu Yin shot back.
You Che felt helpless. Humans. This was how humans were. He had stayed within a human civilization for too long and understood what the creatures were like all too well.
Some humans could betray others without any hesitation or guilt, while others would face death as if they were returning home.
That was precisely why You Che had lacked all confidence when addressing Lu Yin just now.
The star of heartforce spun faster and faster. You Che made his move. He actually had no heartforce, but Lu Yin’s heartforce was Che’s heartforce. Lu Yin instantly lowered his restraints and allowed his heartforce to be mobilized.
Instantly, Manifest City shrank by nearly half. This shift occurred far faster than an ordinary Immortal’s speed.
Lu Yin watched Manifest City shrink with complicated feelings. At this moment, no matter how many Immortals humanity might have, none of them were qualified to face this calamity. This was the power of a Primacy Path.
He looked back at the white figure. It seemed to have been staring at him all along, and that chill had never faded.
This thing had been attacking Lu Yin this entire time. It simply had not yet succeeded.
Lu Yin could not see the lifeline You Che had mentioned, but the white figure certainly could. Once that lifeline snapped, Lu Yin would die.
Life rose from the cosmos, and the cosmos could take life away. However, taking life back was one thing, but it was impossible to deny creatures even the chance to resist.
Lu Yin looked down at his wrist. His karmic chain was very close to completion. It had continued to increase while he was resisting the white figure. As expected, this resistance was no different from an outright battle. This was simultaneously the strangest and the most dangerous battle that Lu Yin had ever fought.
The incense burned slowly, the smoke rising straight up.
Manifest City entered Lu Yin’s grasp. Where the megaverses had once stood, the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s Mother Tree collapsed. This tree had already collapsed once before. It had merely been raised again later.
The Mother Tree of the Tianyuan’s Perennial World was exceptionally conspicuous. Lu Yin looked at it and silently closed his eyes.
“Joining the Sequences of the Life Primacy is something that countless living beings dream of. They would abandon everything for that chance. Are you unwilling?” the white figure spoke again, curiosity entering its words.
Lu Yin looked over. “Allow my civilization to live, and I will be willing.”
The white figure found this strange. “Life is merely a process, and a civilization is also merely a process. In the end, it will ultimately be destroyed. No one can stop that. It is enough for an individual to be eternal. Why carry a civilization with you? Aren’t you tired?”
Lu Yin’s pupils shrank. Sure enough, there was no need for any argument. In this thing’s eyes, the survival or destruction of an entire civilization was merely a question of whether one was tired.
He abruptly teleported away, fleeing with Manifest City. Apart from the Mother Trees, he took everything with him. While it was possible to also take the Mother Trees, doing so would sever them from the cosmic Mother Tree that was spread across the entire Aevum Inch. The trees likely could not survive that, so he could only let them go.
Previously, when the Tianyuan’s Mother Tree had been moved from the Fifth Mainland to the Perennial World, the movement had merely bent a small branch of that cosmic Mother Tree, shifting it slightly in another direction. Humans were too insignificant to see the truth, but things had since changed.
Lu Yin vanished by teleporting away.
When he reappeared, the white figure was the exact same distance away. All that had changed was that it lacked the stick of incense.
Lu Yin teleported again. When he reappeared, the white figure was still there.
He teleported again and again, and the figure reappeared with him again and again.
“You cannot shake it off unless you leave this region of the Aevum Inch far behind,” You Che explained.
Lu Yin did not understand. “Why can’t I shake it off?”
“It is not teleporting, nor is it even moving. It is simply appearing,” You Che explained in a low voice. “As long as there is life within a region of the cosmos, it can appear there. As long as it wishes, it can appear anywhere.”
“Anywhere? I understand.” Lu Yin chose a new direction to teleport. He was going to the Death Megaverse.
The Death Overlord had taken the Death Megaverse away. It could be said that the Overlord had fled. Lu Yin would chase after the Death Megaverse. Life and Death were inherently opposed, and both were Primacy Paths. The closer he moved to Death, the less Life there should be.
Lu Yin kept teleporting. He went the farthest distance that he had ever traveled from the Trio and kept on going.
If one looked at the cosmic Mother Tree that enveloped the Aevum Inch, Lu Yin was essentially traveling from one bough to another. If that bough was still not far enough, he would continue on to the other side of the Mother Tree, teleporting the entire way around the tree.
He refused to believe that he could not shake that white figure off.
However, even after continuously teleporting, he was unexpectedly still unable to get close to the Death Megaverse.
The Death Megaverse, together with the seven Abysses, was a colossus in the Aevum Inch, but the Death Overlord’s speed was not something that Lu Yin could compare to. Even the aura of Stillness had almost disappeared. It was impossible for him to catch up.
Just then, the main stream of the River of Aeons surged, stretching out over his head.
Lu Yin looked up, and his heart sank. Another power had locked onto him.
He teleported again, and when he reappeared, he saw a stick of incense burning in front of him.
“Not good! Incense has been lit for you!” You Che cried out in shock.
Lu Yin grew uneasy. “What exactly is this incense?”
“There’s no clear explanation. It is related to Life. You need to get far away. If you waste any more time, you will be in trouble,” You Che reminded him.
Lu Yin’s eye twitched violently. The Aevum Inch was like a cage, leaving him with nowhere to escape.
He was trapped unless he could, in a single instant, cross such an astronomical distance that not even he himself knew where he would end up.
Suddenly, Lu Yin remembered something. He entered Manifest City and looked for Qing Yun.
The Jumping Line of Sight. He had actually forgotten about that innate gift.
Qing Yun possessed that innate gift, and it allowed one to use a specific substance as a springboard, sending the person’s gaze jumping to other locations with that same substance. The location might be very close, or it might be very, very far away.
Ever since learning the Mirrorlight Art, Lu Yin had stopped using the Jumping Line of Sight so that he would not randomly teleport somewhere so far that he could not return. However, that was precisely what he needed right now.
Lu Yin instantly appeared in the Frightened Sparrow Terrace. Sovereign Awe Gate sat cross legged on the floor, her face pale. She was suffering from the backlash of various powers, which made it difficult for her to even move.
Fortunately, Manifest City was currently protecting the Trio. Without it, every single person would have met with similar misfortune, and the stronger they were, the worse their suffering would be.
Qing Yun stood guarding beside her mother.
Seeing Lu Yin arrive, Sovereign Awe Gate opened her eyes. “I am sorry, Mr. Lu, but I cannot help you with anything.”
Lu Yin raised his hand, and his die appeared. He tapped it with a finger. One pip: Pilfer. Something useless fell out. He tapped it again. Three pips: Enhance. He continued.
Sovereign Awe Gate and Qing Yun watched in confusion, not understanding what Lu Yin was trying to do.
Finally, on his fourth roll, he got five pips: Gift Copy. He placed a hand on Qing Yun’s shoulder, startling her, but she quickly understood. “Mr. Lu, you want the Jumping Line of Sight?”
Lu Yin nodded. “Our very survival depends on it.”
With that, he stepped back out of Manifest City and used the die’s Gift Copy to access the Jumping Line of Sight. He immediately chose a substance and teleported away.
He reappeared. Hmm? Right where I started?
Not only was Lu Yin stunned, but even the white figure was clearly taken aback momentarily, as it took slightly longer to reappear. It had truly not expected Lu Yin to teleport back to the same place.
Again. Lu Yin went back to visit Qing Yun.
Suddenly, he was struck by a sudden chill. He released Willforce, and its power boiled. That white figure was attacking again.
Lu Yin could not worry about his karmic chain at this moment. He first needed to escape.
After rolling the die several times, he finally got Gift Copy to try again.
Fortunately, after breaking through to the Immortal realm, he was able to roll his die without limit. Previously, he had only been able to roll it five times in a row before needing to rest for ten days. If he had to flee with Manifest City for ten days straight, it might be impossible for him to escape.
This was only the Life Primacy. If all the other Primacy Paths appeared as well, it would be over.
His next attempt to teleport also failed to take him very far. He was truly unlucky.
Could bad luck have latched onto me?
Lu Yin entered Manifest City yet again. This time, while rolling his die, he pulled out Qian Shu and shot a vicious glare his way. “Have you drawn another ‘luck’ character?”
It had been more than 2,000 years since the Trio had been struck by catastrophe. The three “luck” characters that Qian Shu had prepared before then had all burned away during that battle. If he had continued to make more, he should have succeeded a few times during two millennia.
Qian Shu nodded blankly. “I have two.”
Lu Yin simply grabbed the two “luck” characters. He no longer cared. Xiang Siyu had already assigned bad luck to him, so he was not afraid of a bit more. At a time like this, there was no need to consider any potential consequences.
Holding the “luck” character, he just happened to obtain the Jumping Line of Sight again. He left Manifest City. Again.
He randomly sought out another substance, and the Jumping Line of Sight sent his perspective into the distance. As he looked, the cosmos he saw kept changing. Farther, farther. Even farther!
As he looked, the “luck” character burned away in his hand.
Somewhere unseen, a pair of eyes looked over. They were beautiful, yet cold, and they held a lofty, condescending arrogance. They were Xiang Siyu’s eyes.
Lu Yin did not hesitate. He was about to teleport away when space suddenly collapsed, separating him from the cosmos.
His teleportation failed.
He was horrified. The power of the Primacy Paths could counter teleportation like it was just a game. He could not escape.
At this moment, coldness enveloped his entire body. This coldness was far more intense than even when his skeleton clone had been crushed by Dark Prisonbone. The entire cosmos was pressing down upon him. His power was being sapped away. His karmic chain was still growing. His life itself felt distinctly fragile. Time, space—everything was changing. He was like a doll being held in the hand of an invisible giant.
Only a pair of eyes filled with mockery were looking at him, and he saw those eyes as well.
