Chapter 3917: Beneath Whither Peak

Chapter 3917: Beneath Whither Peak

Countless people discussed the announcement, and all of the major factions immediately started assigning tasks. All of them hoped that some of their disciples would join the expedition. Regardless of whether they lived or died, their participation would bring merit to the sect. On top of that, if any disciple rose to prominence during the war, all the better.

War was a gamble, where one’s life was placed as the stakes and the wager was for the future.

In the East Domain, there was a bitter expression on Wu Jie’s face. “Do we really have to go? People are going to die. We of the Dream Dominion never participate in these kinds of open wars.”

Wu Cheng sighed. “This is the only way for you to have your power unsealed. I’ve seen Lu Yin, and I genuinely don’t dare to speak to him.”

“But we’re the Dream Dominion!”

“And not even we can withstand a single strike from Lu Yin!”

“Aren’t you exaggerating?”

“Absolutely not. Wu Jie, the Fifth Night Pillar is your only destination. Go.”

Also in the East Domain, Mister Yi Bai looked to the south. “The Fifth Night Pillar? It’s time to repay my debts.”

With that, he took out a spirit seed and accepted it as a Seed Transfusion.

When the Autumnspring Slip was destroyed, the members who had not attacked Lu Yin had survived. Master Yi Bai had also lived, and because of his history and behavior, he had even been given a powerful cultivated spirit seed.

He had initially intended to die as an ordinary human, not accepting the Seed Transfusion, but he found himself wishing to atone. The destruction of the Autumnspring Slip did not mean that their debt had been paid.

The Autumnspring Slip had stolen so many cultivated spirit seeds that Master Yi Bai felt uneasy. If he could die on the battlefield, that would be the best possible ending.

In the North Domain, Lang Ruyu desperately clung to the base of the Mother Tree. “I’m not going! Don’t force me! I’d rather die than go.”

Long black hair was tightly coiled around his arm, trying to drag him downwards.

“Ku Nan, don’t force me!”

“Ruyu, come with me! The Fifth Night Pillar is waiting for us.”

“I’m not going, you crazy woman! If you want to die, don’t drag me down with you!”

“Is someone from the Five-Palms Sect really so cowardly?”

“Yes! I’m this cowardly!”

“That’s even more reason for you to go. Courage is the only reason why you’re still alive.”

“I’m only alive because I’ve managed to stay far away from Lu Yin!”

“Because you’ve stayed far away from Lu Yin? Fine, let’s go together and persuade him to stay out of this war. If he goes down, we can go up.”

“Do you think I’m an idiot? He’s the Odyssey Commander! I’m not going.”

“Big Lang, come on...”

In the West Domain, a man with a sinister face was walking towards the Mother Tree. He intended to use the skyswings to travel to the South Domain and join the Fifth Night Pillar. His name was Li, and he was someone from the Spirit Nidus who had joined the Spirit Coalition. He had once been an expert from the Spirit Nidus’s Phantom Reach, and he had even competed with Qianmen Feidu for the position of master of the Phantom Reach. He had ultimately lost and been taken to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

His intention in joining the Fifth Night Pillar was not to participate in the war, but rather to explain something to Lu Yin on behalf of Hui.

After the unrest had appeared in the Spirit Nidus, Lu Yin had publicly executed Lan and mentioned her connection to Yong Heng. Hui had heard about this, and as the leader of the Spirit Coalition, she had panicked. That was because Lan had been her disciple. Hui was terrified that Lu Yin would assume her guilt as well, and thus had been brainstorming a way to explain herself.

With Lu Yin becoming the Fifth Night Pillar’s Odyssey Commander, Li was sent to join the expedition and convey Hui’s sincerity while explaining the situation as best he could.

Hui did not want to end up pinned to the ground by a sword because of her connection to Lan.

She had been nervous ever since she had learned of Lan’s death.

In the Mother Tree’s canopy, crimson earth stretched out endlessly within the Ninth Blood Layer. Two figures fought fiercely: one wielded a long blade, and the other a massive sheet of blood. They were Gan Mo and Wei Heng.

The two fought for three full days before stopping.

“The Orchid Megaverse’s reset helped you improve a great deal. In no more than a hundred years, you’ll enter Dukkha. You might even surpass me in an instant,” Gan Mo said admiringly as he sheathed his blade.

Wei Heng gravely replied, “But your blade technique is regressing, Senior Brother.”

Gan Mo sighed as he looked at his sword.

“You’ve developed a mental block.”

Gan Mo explained, “Someone easily stopped my blade.”

“Lu Yin.”

“That’s right.”

“His fingers didn’t just stop your blade, but also stopped your ambition. He’s left you unable to advance at all.”

Gan Mo did not deny it. He was constantly reliving the events of that day and how his blade had been captured between two fingers. At that moment, he had lost something.

Wei Heng put away his blood-colored light. “I can’t help you, Senior Brother, but if you manage to overcome this mental block, both your sword and your heart will experience a transformation.”

“I know, but a mental block isn’t something that you can just stroll through.”

“Do you hate Lu Yin?”

“Of course not. If my skill is inferior to his, what is there to hate?”

“Then go to the Fifth Night Pillar.”

Gan Mo was surprised. “Are you going to join the war in the Allsense Megaverse?”

Wei Heng replied, “Master told me to win him over.”

Gan Mo nodded. “I know about that, but you don’t know how to talk to people.”

“I can observe him.”

Gan Mo was left speechless. He thought back to when he had first met Wei Heng. The man had just stared at him, to the point where Gan Mo had developed nightmares. Even in his dreams, that pair of eyes had been staring at him.

“Junior Brother... why don’t you try something else?”

Wei Heng was puzzled. “Why? Does it not work?”

Gan Mo really wanted to explain that it was not a question of whether it worked, but rather whether it would make someone into an enemy. However, considering the fact that their master was Greater Sancte Blood Tower, even if Lu Yin was offended, he would not dare to do anything to Wei Heng. Thus, Gan Mo stayed silent.

“Are you going to the Fifth Night Pillar?”

Gan Mo shook his head. “I am a member of the Eighth Night Pillar, so I can’t go. But you should go. Be careful. This war in the Allsense Megaverse is clearly no simple matter. Lu Yin is already halfway into the Immortal realm, and he was also ordered to deal with the situation in the Spirit Nidus. Even so, he’s being sent as reinforcement. That should tell you how hard things are there.”

“I understand. I’ll go.”

In the Sea of Karma, Jing Lian was fretting; should he go with the Fifth Night Pillar? Wei Heng’s going, and I can’t fall behind him. I also need to keep an eye on Lu Yin for Master. I can’t let him fall into the Blood Tower’s camp.

However, Jing Lian really did not want to go. Green Lotus’s disciples typically joined the Fourth Night Pillar if they joined the Nine Odysseys, as Senior Brother Ming Zhuo was the Odyssey Commander there.

Jing Lian had never considered joining a Night Pillar. If he had, he would have joined the Fourth Night Pillar long ago.

If he went with the Fifth Night Pillar to the Allsense Megaverse, would things be awkward the next time he ran into Ming Zhuo? After all, Jing Lian had refused Ming Zhuo’s invitation long ago.

However, if he did not join the expedition and Wei Heng managed to win Lu Yin over, what then? Jing Lian told himself that he needed to carry some of his master’s burdens. With Green Lotus absent, Jing Lian could not allow Wei Heng to succeed.

Thinking this, he gritted his teeth. He needed to go. “Master, your disciple is sacrificing too much for you!”

...

The announcement that the Fifth Night Pillar was leaving disrupted countless people’s plans. From all across the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, countless cultivators started traveling to the South Domain.

The Fifth Night Pillar stood where the South and East Domains met. Lu Yin was currently in the Frightened Sparrow Terrace, and he was able to directly return to the Night Pillar with Awe Gate’s power. However, after checking the return path, he decided to make the journey himself, as he would need to pass by Whither Peak, and Cheng Gong’s corpse was still there.

People from Loneswan Island and the Qiunan family had reported to Lu Yin that Cheng Gong’s corpse was watched over by a star of misfortune and that unless Lu Yin went in person, he would not be able to recover the corpse.

This was a good chance to see who was so powerful that even the Qiunan family feared him.

Besides, that was Whither Peak, which had somehow indicated the situation of the war in the Allsense Megaverse. Lu Yin was very curious how that had been accomplished.

Could it perhaps be used on the Tianyuan sometime in the future?

Half a month passed. Constant fights took place beneath Whither Peak, and the stench of blood never faded.

...

Someone descended from Whither Peak. He was determined to kill his enemy, and so he headed north. He had just gained a century of safety. As an Immortal Disciple, he feared nothing.

“Out of my way!” He was anxious to find his enemy. Word that he had climbed Whither Peak had surely already spread, so if he delayed at all, his enemy would escape.

The man headed towards the mountain did not step aside and continued walking straight ahead.

This enraged the new Immortal Disciple. He casually swung a hand to attack the man in his path, only to feel as though he had just struck a cliff. Pain shot up his arm, and an irresistible power flung him away to slam into the ground.

By the time he lifted his head to look back, the man had already disappeared.

The Immortal Disciple blankly stared back at Whither Peak, where the other man had gone. Thinking carefully, the man’s expression suddenly changed. That was Lu Yin’s face! He’s the one who attacked all four domains, even daring to attack the Frightened Sparrow Terrace. He’s invincible! The most powerful beneath the Immortals!

No wonder the man had not been able to even resist.

He was struck by a sudden chill. Thankfully, Lu Yin had not been any more heavy-handed, as that would have left the man dead.

There was no question that becoming an Immortal Disciple was a privilege, but that also depended on who one encountered. Clearly, Lu Yin was absolutely lawless.

Even if Lu Yin was forced to pay a steep price for killing an Immortal Disciple due to a momentary impulse, the man himself would still be dead, while his enemy would live on.

The man let out a breath and dismissed the matter from his thoughts. He and Lu Yin would never cross paths again. For those who climbed Whither Peak, death would remain at a distance of 100 years, but it would be right next to them after that. The man was no longer concerned with worldly affairs. He had but one goal: revenge.

Elsewhere, Lu Yin arrived at the foot of Whither Peak and looked up the mountain.

It was not a particularly impressive mountain. While it did pierce the clouds, there were other such mountains throughout the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

Far above the summit of Whither Peak, the Mother Tree’s branches extended out. They spread out from the tree, blotting out the sky.

The fact that only Dukkhans could climb the mountain indicated that there was some mystery to it.

Lu Yin did want to try climbing to the peak, but there was a special significance to Whither Peak, and he did not want to trouble the Immortals.

With that thought, he stepped forward, disappearing from sight.

Up ahead, a wine bottle rolled down a cliff from a low outcropping. A drunken, bleary-eyed man slowly stood up and looked into the distance. He’s here.

Instantly, the man’s gaze grew clear. He was going to prove that every word his master had spoken was true.

Hatred was the most common thing near Whither Peak, while life held almost no value.

As soon as Lu Yin set foot onto the mountain, everyone felt as though something had grabbed hold of their hearts. Each step that Lu Yin took caused the ground, the mountain, and even the dust to tremble.

He slowly walked over to where Cheng Gong’s corpse lay.

The corpse had lain there for a long time. No one had been able to touch it.

Some distance away, people from Loneswan Island were still watching the corpse. Zhang Hongyun suppressed his excitement and refrained from making any sound.

At last, Mr. Lu’s here. Zhang Hongyun wondered what would happen to that star of misfortune.

During the time he had kept watch at Whither Peak, Zhang Hongyun had heard tales of that drunkard, and they were even more shocking than when he had seen the Qiunan family retreat. That drunk was truly someone whom no one dared to offend. No one who arrived at Whither Peak dared to cross him.

Lu Yin soon stopped beside Cheng Gong’s corpse. He looked up at the nearby outcropping and at the drunkard who was on it.

That man swayed a couple of times before standing. His eyes grew clearer as he stared at Lu Yin.

“This was supposed to be simple, and yet you complicated things,” Lu Yin calmly stated. Despite his calm demeanor, his vigilance rose. This man was a true powerhouse. There were very few throughout the vast Nine Odysseys Megaverse who had managed to give Lu Yin such a feeling. This man was even more powerful than the High Seraph or Xing Fan.

While such a sensation did not necessarily mean true combat strength, it did reflect an individual’s power, to a certain degree.
