Chapter 3742: Sealed Memories

Chapter 3742: Sealed Memories

They later discovered another individual: Xi Wen. She was one of the Thirteen Luminaries who had previously been captured by Lu Yin but then released.

Old Chief and the other conscients had barely been able to believe their eyes when they saw Xi Wen.

Lu Yin was capable of devouring conscients, so why would he have released Xi Wen?

Xi Wen provided an answer: the Middle Heaven’s Blade. Lu Yin had released her in exchange for learning the Middle Heaven’s Blade.

Learning this caused Old Chief to become even more motivated to kill Lu Yin. The young human already possessed Heaven’s Blade, and he had now obtained the Middle Heaven’s Blade. There was no doubt that he would next go after the Lower Heaven’s Blade. No matter if it was because of Lu Yin’s consciousness devouring ability or the Lower Heaven’s Blade, Old Chief needed the human to die.

It was no longer possible for both him and Lu Yin to live.

“What about Boundless?” Shuangdao asked.

Xi Wen shook her head. “The ship was still there when I was released. I have no idea where it went.”

Yue Ya was not concerned about the Thirteen Luminaries. His only concern was that he had gained another powerful ally to help take Lu Yin down.

Yue Ya’s forces were currently the strongest group in the Consciousness Megaverse. They were capable of sweeping aside all who stood before them. The only catch was that those enemies needed to be found.

“Could he be in the Willbound Spire?” Shuangdao suddenly asked.

Old Chief and Xi Wen exchanged glances before glancing over at Yue Ya.

Yanbo Haomiao was surprised. “The Willbound Spire?”

“The same Willbound Spire that I once visited?” Yanbo Hongli asked.

Old Chief responded in a low voice, “There is a cliff in that place, and we can enter from the bottom of the cliff.”

Yanbo Hongli nodded. “I watched several Thirteen Luminaries, especially you,” she said as she turned to Shuangdao. “You tried to climb that cliff multiple times, and you always failed.”

Shuangdao was speechless. The Thirteen Luminaries were powerful enough that even the Spirit Nidus was wary of them, and they had been confident enough in their power to prepare a trap to kill the High Seraph. Never once had any of them considered the possibility that there were people watching and laughing at them.

How many years had this gone on for? How many people from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse had observed the Thirteen Luminaries?

Yue Ya shook his head. “He can’t be in the Willbound Spire. It’s been sealed with the power of Greater Sancte Green Lotus. No one can get in now.”

“I went to check recently,” Emperor Slayer offered. “I still couldn’t get in.”

“Then he must be hiding in a parallel universe. Let’s keep searching.”

Suddenly, Yue Ya recalled something. “Let’s go back to the Willbound Spire.”

Emperor Slayer muttered, “I just said that I tried recently and still couldn’t get in...”

Yue Ya ignored the beast and led the group to the Willbound Expanse.

He still remembered the most striking words that Greater Sancte Green Lotus had once said. “Karma is another world. Without understanding karma, all remain mortals.”

Greater Sancte Green Lotus had mastered the power of karma, but so had Lu Yin. For those two, the megaverse did not solely consist of the one that others saw. There was another world as well.

If there was another world, then there also had to be another path and another gate, as well as another way to open it.

The fact that others were unable to enter the Willbound Spire did not mean that Lu Yin was similarly incapable of doing so.

When Yue Ya had first arrived in the Consciousness Megaverse, he had led Emperor Slayer straight to the Willbound Expanse. Yue Ya had attempted to enter, only to confirm that the Willbound Spire had been sealed by Greater Sancte Green Lotus’s power. None could enter. That belief was deeply rooted in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s preconceptions, and Yue Ya had never questioned it.

The more that a person feared and respected Greater Sancte Green Lotus, the more convinced they would be of his invincible power.

However, Lu Yin had comprehended karma, which changed everything.

Yue Ya hoped that his suspicions were correct and that Lu Yin had gone to hide in the Willbound Spire.

Yue Ya was not afraid of Lu Yin or anyone else ever reaching the palace, as that was simply impossible.

For countless years, many from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse had made the same attempt, yet they had all failed. There was no connection between approaching the palace and karma, so even if Lu Yin had comprehended the power of karma, that would not help him get any closer. It was still impossible for him to succeed.

As long as they are hiding in the Willbound Spire, I can trap them.

...

Atop the cliff in the Willbound Spire, Lu Yin had not expected Yue Ya to reach the correct conclusion so quickly and head for the Willbound Expanse.

The palace was still blurry in front of him. The closer he moved to the palace, the greater the pressure that he was subjected to. The strain on his memory string had reached the point where Lu Yin’s steps had grown unsteady.

The High Seraph was suffering from the same condition.

All of the man’s dignity and composure had completely vanished.

After taking a few more steps, he looked down and saw two palm prints in the dirt. Seeing them caused him to drift off. Someone else had stood in this same location, and they had knelt on the ground.

“Those are Ru Shi’s prints,” the High Seraph’s commented.

Lu Yin looked over. “Ru Shi?”

The High Seraph’s voice grew cold. “Lesser Sancte Ru Shi was the Nine Odysseys cultivator that got closer to the palace than anyone else, and yet he only came this far.”

“Are the Lesser Sancti really that weak?” Lu Yin asked.

The High Seraph glanced over, but despite clearly wanting to say something, he restrained himself.

Were the Lesser Sancti weak? Of course not, but people could be strong in different aspects.

The High Seraph had refined his willpower by cultivating the Everstone Sequence Technique. His will alone could alter the universe, while his consciousness rivaled that of the Thirteen Luminaries’. It was natural for him to make so much progress.

As for Lu Yin, his consciousness far surpassed the High Seraph’s, and while the High Seraph had no idea what Lu Yin had experienced throughout his life, there was no doubt that there was a connection to memory.

Both men were special, and their uniqueness had allowed them to reach this point.

How could anyone else have succeeded?

Xing Fan’s consciousness was weak, which meant that he could never get close to the palace.

Dan Jin had never even attempted to reach the palace.

Yue Ya was a being of manifested thought, which meant that memory shocks were even more harmful to him than ordinary humans.

Very few peak Dukkhans possessed abilities that would help them here. Without his will that had been tempered by Everstone and his Universe-level consciousness, the High Seraph would never have dared to approach the Willbound Spire.

It was actually remarkable that Ru Shi had managed to reach so far, and he had only accomplished that much thanks to his Wayfinder Sutra.

He had surpassed everyone else from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

The High Seraph simply had not anticipated Lu Yin’s consciousness to progress so quickly. There was no denying that Lu Yin’s consciousness alone was powerful enough to match the power of a peak Dukkhan like the High Seraph, which meant that it had surpassed all of the Thirteen Luminaries.

Without such powerful consciousness, the High Seraph was certain that Lu Yin would not have been able to walk so close to the palace.

Anyone who could compete for the title of Lesser Sancte had to be extremely powerful. How many of those individuals throughout the history of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse could match the combat power of the High Seraph and Lu Yin?

These were the High Seraph’s thoughts, though he would never share them with Lu Yin.

While the man did not want to admit it, Lu Yin had reached the pinnacle of strength beneath the Immortal realm despite being only a Progenitor. This was an accomplishment that the High Seraph could have never imagined possible.

Lu Yin had already exceeded anything that anyone in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse could have anticipated.

Lu Yin’s combat strength did not come from Seed Transfusion, but rather from himself. On top of that, he was still only a Progenitor.

The more that the High Seraph thought about Lu Yin’s situation, the more frustrated he became.

Lu Yin looked back down at the two palm prints on the ground. Ru Shi must have struggled greatly to reach this location, given how he had collapsed.

Lu Yin looked back up at the palace. He was also struggling. His steps had become unsteady, and he was no longer able to separate himself from the memories. Still, he had no choice but to continue striding forward; otherwise, the visit to the Willbound Spire would be meaningless.

While the palace was clearly not far away, Lu Yin had never walked such a long path before.

He took another step, pressing on.

The High Seraph stopped looking over and also resumed his progress.

Both men had surpassed all records left in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Of course, such things ignored beings like the Greater Sancti.

Just a few steps later, Lu Yin was struck by his sixth memory shock.

Again, he saw the river, as well as figures moving against the current. They were carrying something as they moved upstream, pressing onward without hesitation.

Close to the riverbank, a woman in red walked away, her back turned to Lu Yin. A faint song barely drifted to his ears. Inexplicably, Lu Yin’s eyes snapped open. While he was staring straight ahead, his eyes were completely unfocused.

In front of him, he did not not see the palace, but rather the woman in red. The scenery was familiar... Is that the Mirari Realm?

Lu Yin’s breathing quickened. He was indeed seeing the Mirari Realm, and the river was the River of Aeons.

He watched as the woman in red slowly disappeared. Step by step, she moved into the void. It looked as though the earth had swallowed her whole. An indescribable sadness caused his eyes to grow red.

He did not know why, but at that moment, he felt profound sadness.

Suddenly, two words appeared in his mind.

The words struck like a bolt of lightning from a blue sky, and they tore open memories that Lu Yin had lost long ago, bringing back images that had been buried in a forgotten corner.

Floating coffin.

Floating coffin.

Floating coffin...

In the Tianyuan Megaverse’s Bizarre Sect, Lu Yin had held the God of Death’s scythe in his hands and stared at a sea of surging death energy. He had heard the God of Death speak, and the terms “Immemorial Citadel” and “floating coffin” had both been mentioned.

In the Astral Combat Academy’s Astral-10 branch, he had held the Books of Destiny while on the Stargazing Deck. He had seen a steep black cliff and rows of black coffins wrapped in vines, hanging in the air. It was a scene that Lu Yin should have forgotten, and he had as soon as he had stepped off of the Stargazing Deck. However, when he heard the woman in red utter the words “floating coffin,” everything had returned.

Those two words had opened his sealed memories.

Those memories also filled Lu Yin with a long-forgotten fear.

He did not know where the fear originated from, whether it was from his own memories or the memory that he had just observed, but he had not felt such overwhelming terror even when facing Master Qing Cao.

It had been a long time since Lu Yin had felt such fear. It was not even fear alone, but also a sense of rising panic and helplessness. It was similar to when he had first seen Aeternus’s six Scourges.

What did the scene mean? Lu Yin had no idea.

Why had the God of Death mentioned “floating coffin”?

Who did the floating coffins that Lu Yin had seen from the Stargazing Deck belong to?

And who was that woman in red?

What did everything have to do with the memories of the creature in the Willbound Spire?

Lu Yin did not notice when his senses returned to the real world. He remained frozen in place, his eyes had regained focus, yet were still empty.

The Origin Progenitor stared at Lu Yin’s back. Lu Yin had not taken another step, and was just standing in place. What could he have seen?

The High Seraph turned to look at Lu Yin and frowned. Is he still conscious? He isn’t still suffering from a memory shock. What memory could have struck him so deeply?

Most disturbing of all was the panic and fear still in Lu Yin’s eyes, which the High Seraph found unbelievable.

What could the man be so afraid of?

Lu Yin stood at the peak of power, with only Immortals above him. What was left for him to fear? Could he have seen a memory of an Immortal?

Yue Ya and the others entered the Willbound Expanse and arrived at the door of the thatched hut.

They stood beneath a massive tree, dandelion seeds dancing on the breeze while a river babbled against stones that sent droplets spraying across the grass. It was a beautiful place.

Unfortunately, that beauty did nothing to quell Emperor Slayer’s fury.

It was indeed possible to enter the Willbound Spire, but the opening was narrow and rather difficult to pass through.

Emperor Slayer could not make sense of it. Who would leave such an opening? When he had passed through before, he had tried to enter at the center of the door and failed. Because of that, he had left. He had never considered testing the side of the door. The way one was forced to pass through the entrance was utterly humiliating. Who would be so disgraceful?

Shameless!

Yue Ya breathed a sigh of relief. The fact that there was access to the Willbound Spire meant that Lu Yin and the others were indeed inside. This was exactly what he had been hoping for.

This meant that the greatest obstacle before Yue Ya was climbing the cliff.

There was no question that Lu Yin and the others had climbed to the top of the cliff after entering the Willbound Spire. The High Seraph had to be within as well; without him, there was no purpose in staying within the Willbound Spire.

If Lu Yin and the others had succeeded in reaching the top of the cliff, then even if Yue Ya and the others entered as well, they would be stuck looking up, unable to reach the top. That would accomplish absolutely nothing.

It was at this moment that Yue Ya felt the same sense of helplessness that Old Chief and the Luminaries had suffered for so long.

Old Chief and the other conscients had stared at the cliff for countless years, unable to reach the top. At this moment, Yue Ya was similarly obstructed.
