Chapter 54: One of Humanity’s Mortal Enemy

Nyxia walked carelessly, her boots not causing sound, clicking on the wooden floor.

[Night Walk: Any movement you make will not produce any sound, and in the dead of the night, your presence is almost non-existent.]

She only stopped and cautiously hid in the corners when someone was passing by, effortlessly blending in the shadows.

’I thought it would be hard. But it is going so easily. Just as Leon said, there are not many people. Leon or anyone with some skills can do it by themselves. I wasn’t needed.’ Nyxia frowned as she passed through various staff and guests, arriving at the basement. Whatever the issue was, it wasn’t the correct time to contemplate it.

Nyxia gave her surroundings one last glance to see if she had been caught in a trap. However, after waiting for several minutes, she couldn’t find anything. ’Am I overthinking?’

’Well, let it be. I am just here to gather information.’ Shaking away the useless worries for now, Nyxia focused on the current work in hand.

In front of her was a pile of scraps, covering it with dirt and dust. She didn’t have the skill to see signs of life or any sort of presence, but Leon did have an item to help her with it.

Nyxia pulled out a shard of glass that could only fit her one eye—See-Through Glass.

Leon gave her this item to help her in her search. He couldn’t use it earlier in the presence of Cynthia.

Currently, Nyxia would use this item to find out the entrance to this underground base and see what was truly hidden.

"Leon said I do not have to use magic or incantation to activate this item. Just see through it." Nyxia remembered Leon’s instruction and placed the See-Through Glass in front of her right eye.

Instantly, the scraps vanished, replaced with warm, bright lights, showing vibrant life. At the corner Leon found the signs of life; Nyxia also saw something.

There was a tunnel that spiraled downwards, in an underground base where there were multiple heat signatures.

Nyxia’s eyes widened in shock when she saw what those heat signatures shaped into. "Orcs!"

Yes, Orcs. One of humanity’s mortal enemies.

Nyxia saw some thin and mostly burly physiques being walking, talking, and fighting among themselves. If it were only this, she wouldn’t be this sure. She also saw pointy ears and bald heads. They also had long teeth growing out from the corners of their mouth like hippos.

She was in too much shock right now because alongside the heat signatures she could also feel a magical aura from them, and some of them made her scared. This situation meant many Orcs had quietly invaded their district under everyone’s eyes.

’I have to tell everyone.’ Nyxia made a quick decision to leave immediately and not investigate further. The things from now on were way out of her capability. She didn’t need to be the hero and solve everything by herself, as there were many people responsible for solving this issue.

Then Nyxia left in a hurry, passing through the staircase and the people as fast as possible. No one saw her or noticed, letting her easily leave too.

However, just as she reached the entrance of the inn, she bumped into a man who appeared to be in a hurry just like her.

"Ouch! Can’t you walk carefully? Did you forget to put the fire on your stove? You filthy woman." The man stumbled backwards and grimaced in annoyance rather than pain.

Nyxia also became annoyed. He was also clearly in a hurry, just like her, so they were both in the wrong. Instead, this man was putting all the blame on her and called her a filthy woman. She couldn’t let this man go so easily.

"What did you say, you filthy-looking beast! You are running like your wife is cheating with someone, not caring about your surroundings, and you are blaming others. Hmph! I hope your wife cheats on you. You look so weak anyway." Nyxia berated the man without a filter. She also said it while raising an octave to grab others’ attention.

Nyxia successfully did as the small number of people active in the reception hall. They looked at the drama unfolding before with weird glances.

The slim yet finely tuned man gritted his teeth, feeling the gazes. He was especially at the mention of being weak and having his wife stolen; he couldn’t take it in, his culture wouldn’t let him. "I will kill you, woman!"

"What happened?" At that moment, Pooland entered with a stern face. He looked at everyone with a hostile gaze, especially at the man staring at his sister-in-law with a murderous gaze. He was waiting outside, his eyes and ears always on the inn. So the moment he heard Nyxia’s rage-filled voice, he quickly entered.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Seeing no response, Pooland asked the man.

"Oh no!"

Suddenly, Nyxia and Pooland heard collective gasps from the surrounding crowd. They saw extreme panic in their eyes.

Pooland wanted to ask what was wrong with them.

However, Pooland and Nyxia immediately received the answer as they watched the man change his skin color like a chameleon and have gray skin. His jaw was wide and filled with jagged teeth.

"ORC!!!!" Pooland shouted, dumbfounded by the development in front of him.

However, he didn’t have the time to conclude the reason for this man turning into an orc, as his sister-in-law was about to get pounced on by this orc.

"Die! You filthy woman!" The orc dashed forward, screaming. His eyes filled with anger, wanting to tear apart Nyxia.

"Rebound."

Pooland pointed his finger at the orc, blasting him away.

Bang!

The orc smashed into the wooden wall, breaking out and landing on the streets.

Looking at the mess that just occurred, Pooland murmured with a frown. "What is happening? How did an Apprentice-Rank orc enter the capital? What are the guards at the gates doing?"
