SSS-Rank Lord Supreme: The Ultimate Devourer
Chapter 36: Combat Legacy (3)
All his life, Neo had always lived with a certain perspective.
Everything he did, he did because he could.
Train. He did.
He had trained harder than anyone.
He had conviction.
He had will.
He had learned more techniques than most people ever knew existed.
All before he ever drew his first breath of essence.
All these things he had done, none of it ever lit that fire in him.
His heart had always been carefree.
Most things came easy to him.
With his exceptional talent. He never had a need to prove himself.
When he was first cast down into the mortal world.
A spark had been lit.
He had chosen to reach the very peak of mortality, and become a loose immortal.
He had chosen to not let the Immortal World break him.
Then, there came Devour.
With a bloodline like Devour.
Cultivation could not have been any easier.
Not to mention the mortal ranks.
Even the immortal ranks would be child’s play.
His cultivation would be perfected with absolute ease.
He would ascend to the Immortal World.
Nothing could stop him.
Not when he would be ascending at the absolute limit of the Ex-Rank.
Everything was simply how it was going to be to him.
There was no true challenge there.
He just needed the time to grow to that strength.
That spark had almost died.
Neo was like raw jade.
He was a well of endless potential.
He had the conviction and will that nothing would stop him.
But he had always been lacking something.
Something important.
Something that was gained through years of experience.
A quality every true expert had.
Raw jade needed to be polished.
And that polishing was what Neo lacked.
He had the will.
He had the conviction.
But he had never been through any tempering.
His will and conviction were like sand castles.
They would be washed away by the rising waves.
This legacy provided the tempering he lacked.
This Combat Legacy of the unnamed immortal.
It would become the cradle from which a true expert rose.
One whose legend would endure for eternity.
*
Everyone was going through their own tempering here.
Most had reached their limit and had been eliminated from the legacy.
Mia’s team was one among such people.
Sofia had been the first to be eliminated.
Followed by Derek.
Then Lancelot came out second to last.
They hadn’t waited for too long before Mia joined them.
The team was back together now.
Everyone of them had been returned to the area where they were taken from.
It wasn’t only them.
Everyone who had been eliminated had also been returned to the vicinity of where they were before the trials of the legacy began.
Everyone stuck to their groups.
No one was in the mood to antagonize anyone.
They were still immersed in what they had experienced in the legacy.
Their cultivation had already been returned to them.
The minor origin had disappeared from within their being.
Most of them would never experience this feeling again in their lives.
To grasp origin within their existence.
"Boss, what reward did you get?"
Mia gave him a look.
He felt embarrassed.
Derek knew he had been too forward with that question.
Lancelot took out a pouch.
Derek also brought one out.
The pouches looked the same.
They came from the legacy.
Everyone had gotten one.
Sofia and Mia also followed suit.
In the pouch were the rewards given to each person.
They each examined their pouch, and came to a startling discovery.
Each person’s pouch contained resources that would help their cultivation where it was lacking.
Each resource was perfectly suited to the person.
This immortal rank being was very nice.
They seemed to care for the younger generation a lot.
Taking the time and care needed to choose what was best for each person.
Mia had the highest number of resources.
It seemed the higher your rank, the more resources you got.
The team had always been close-knit.
This was they usual for them. There was no ill feeling at all.
Among the tens of thousands of people here, Mia had gotten quite a high ranking.
She ranked at 2,582.
This meant that her combat talent was good.
And showed the fact that most people had been eliminated.
The team discussed how each of them had done in the legacy.
The techniques they used.
How they struggled with managing their minor origin.
Now that their cultivation had been returned to them. They would be more efficient whenever they used it again.
This was a boost to their combat power and ability.
This legacy had not only rewarded them with tangible resources. It had also taught them a great lesson.
It was like being tutored by an immortal.
They all seemed to have forgotten someone.
Or it was just that they had finally accepted the reality of things.
*
On the side of the bloodline bearers.
Only a few of them had been eliminated.
But as time passed, the number increased.
Until only the strongest ones were still left advancing through the combat legacy.
Raela groaned.
She had just been eliminated.
By a prime demon of all things.
The heavens really were unfair.
She looked in the direction of the prime demons.
Most of them had been eliminated too.
She hoped the one who eliminated her was also among them.
She looked around her.
Kotil and the seven other peak F-Rank cultivators weren’t here.
They were still in the legacy.
The five people she came with were here.
They had been eliminated before her.
She looked around her again.
She was searching for one person.
It couldn’t be, right?
It couldn’t be that she was eliminated before that Immortal World brat.
She felt it was impossible.
She looked again.
He really wasn’t here.
It really was unbelievable.
As time passed.
More and more people were eliminated.
Even one of the seven people at the peak of the F-Rank was eliminated.
Neo was still nowhere to be seen.
This situation was incredulous.
It almost felt like a dream.
She knew this legacy was a trial of pure combat skills.
But, this was someone at the peak of the F-Rank.
Neo was more skilled at combat than someone at the peak of the F-Rank?
Someone who had cultivated for almost as long as he had lived?
She turned to the screen in front of her eyes.
She checked the rankings.
She froze.
Her shock was palpable.
Seventh.
It couldn’t be another person with the same name, right?
Her eyes were glued to the rankings.
She watched as the name rose.
Rank by rank.
Until it surpassed everyone else.
First!
She almost cursed out loud.
Someone with third level essence cultivation of the F-Rank had just surpassed every F-Rank cultivator here.
*
Everyone had nothing to do now beyond examining what they realized in the trials of the Combat Legacy.
There was only so much they could do, though.
They would have to internalize it further by going through combat.
As time passed, and more people were eliminated.
Many people’s attention was turned to the rankings.
They checked who the top ten were.
Both demons and humans saw names they were familiar with.
But one name was unfamiliar to both sides.
Only a few people recognized the name Neo.
And all of them found it hard to believe.
