A while later, the portal finished opening. Kael glanced toward Lyra.

"Alright, let’s go. We can’t keep her waiting too long."

Lyra didn’t move.

Her head remained lowered as she nervously picked at one of her fingers, her expression betraying the uneasiness she had been trying to hide throughout the entire day.

"But..."

She hesitated.

Whatever she wanted to say never came out.

Kael stepped closer and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Brace yourself. It’s going to be a rough one."

"Wait, what?"

Before Lyra could react, Kael pulled her toward the portal.

The swirling darkness swallowed them both.

The sensation of passing through the portal was nothing like normal movement. For a brief moment, Lyra felt as if her entire body had been turned upside down, her senses unable to determine which direction was up or down.

Then everything suddenly stopped.

Kael and Lyra appeared inside the throne room.

Lyra immediately bent forward, one hand pressing against her stomach as dizziness washed over her. Her vision blurred for several seconds, and she had to take a few breaths before the strange sensation finally began to fade.

When she finally looked up, Kael was already standing a short distance away.

He glanced back at her, concern briefly appearing in his eyes.

"You alright?"

Lyra nodded, though she still looked a little pale.

"Yeah. I’m fine."

Before Kael could say anything else, footsteps echoed from one side of the throne room.

A man with jet-black hair approached them.

He looked young, no older than thirty, with a handsome face and an imposing presence that was difficult to ignore. The moment he reached them, he stopped and lowered his head respectfully.

"Greetings, Master. Greetings, Young Miss."

Lyra froze.

Her eyes widened as she stared at the man in front of her. Then she slowly looked toward Kael, her expression asking one clear question.

Who is this?

Kael seemed to understand immediately.

"Oh, this is Varek. The one I told you about."

Lyra’s eyes widened even further.

This was Varek?

The powerful ancient being Kael had told her about?

From Kael’s description, Lyra had imagined someone much older. Perhaps an ancient-looking man with a long beard or some other appearance that matched the idea of someone who had lived for an incredibly long time.

Instead, Varek looked like a man who hadn’t even reached thirty.

And he was extremely handsome.

Lyra stared at him for another moment before finally remembering herself.

Varek didn’t seem bothered by her reaction.

"This way, Miss. Lady Ezra is over there."

His words snapped Lyra out of her daze.

"Ezra?"

She immediately turned in the direction Varek indicated.

And then she saw her.

Ezra was lying quietly on the bed, a blanket pulled over her body. From where Lyra stood, she looked completely peaceful, almost as if she had simply fallen asleep after a long day and would wake up at any moment.

Lyra’s expression changed.

The nervousness she had been carrying since they arrived disappeared, replaced by something much heavier.

Her eyes slowly welled up as she took a step forward, toward her.

If only it were that simple.

If only Ezra was really just sleeping.

If only Lyra could walk over there, shake her awake, and hear her complain about being disturbed.

But she knew that wasn’t the case.

Her throat tightened, but she continued walking toward the bed anyway.

Meanwhile, Kael and Varek remained where they were. Neither followed her.

This was something Lyra needed to face herself.

They could protect her from countless dangers, but they couldn’t take this pain away for her. All Kael could do was give her the chance to finally confront it instead of continuing to run from it.

Lyra reached the bed and slowly sat down beside Ezra.

For a few seconds, she simply stared at her. Then her shoulders began to tremble, and she lowered her head as the first tears slipped down her cheeks.

Kael watched from behind, his chest tightening at the sight.

He knew it hurt.

He knew exactly what it felt like to stand in front of someone you cared about and realize that no matter how badly you wanted things to return to the way they were, you couldn’t simply turn back time.

But this had to happen.

Lyra had to face this.

Whether she wanted to or not.

Kael eventually turned his attention away from her and looked toward Varek.

"So, any new developments?"

Varek’s expression became serious.

"Nothing much. Her soul and spirit remain damaged, but there has been some improvement."

He paused briefly before continuing.

"Based on the current pace of her recovery, if nothing unexpected happens and her condition remains stable, I believe she should be able to make a complete recovery within two to five years."

Kael’s eyebrows immediately furrowed.

"Two to five years?"

That was far too long. He knew he needed to find a way to accelerate Ezra’s recovery, and he would.

But that was a problem for another time.

For now, there was something else he wanted to discuss with Varek.

"Oh, there’s something else I wanted to ask you about my sister."

Varek turned toward him.

"The Young Miss?" Varek’s expression shifted slightly. "Is something wrong with her?"

"Not exactly."

Kael briefly glanced toward Lyra before continuing.

"I want to know more about her condition."

He began explaining everything about Lyra to him, her hidden information and the abilities that remained locked within her.

Varek listened without interrupting, but the longer Kael spoke, the more his expression changed. His brows slowly drew together, and the calm look on his face gradually faded.

By the time Kael finished explaining everything, Varek remained silent. For several seconds, he said nothing, his gaze shifting toward Lyra instead.

She was still sitting beside Ezra, quietly wiping the tears from her face. Varek watched her for a moment before finally speaking.

"Master."

Kael looked at him.

"Have you checked in with your parents? To give birth to someone possessing the Chaos Body Physique..." He paused. "There’s no way they’re ordinary people."

Kael fell silent.

He had already suspected as much.

The strange circumstances surrounding Lyra’s body had made him question their parents long ago. There were simply too many things that didn’t add up.

But he had never had enough information to pursue that line of thought seriously.

That would have to wait.

Kael looked at Varek.

"Is the Unified Chaos Body Physique really that special?"
