The expanse of exposed tidal mud stretched toward the deep channel like a desolate, ribbed wasteland of grey clay and decaying sea flora.

Two miles out from the seawall, three massive iron carriers were anchored in the deep shipping trench, their rust-streaked hulls humming with unnatural rhythmic resonance.

Mounted along their reinforced keels, heavy sub-harmonic acoustic arrays pulsed powerful low-frequency vibrations into the seawater, herding the abyssal swarm toward the city breakwater.

"I have calculated the primary boarding window," Maya announced over the tactical channel, her fingers flying across the diagnostic terminal in the Post Four bunker.

"Give us the numbers, Maya," Fin replied, adjusting the straps of his equipment harness while checking the spare daggers sheathed at his ribs.

"The oceanic counter-surge will flood the mud flats in exactly twenty-two minutes," she warned, "giving you a fourteen-minute operational window on the main deck before water reaches the hull vents."

"That is more than enough time to breach their bridge and smash their transmitters," Ruby said, testing the locking mechanism on her tower shield.

Three low-slung municipal mud-skimmers were already idling at the base of the approach ramp, their flat aluminum hulls propelled by wide pneumatic tread belts.

Colonel Mercer had dispatched two squads of veteran coastal marines to assault the flanking carriers, while Halden House targeted the central flagship designated as the Geryon.

"Remember that we cannot evacuate three entire vessels onto our skimmers," Fin reminded the team as they climbed aboard the central craft.

"Bram has twelve municipal transport barges moving in behind the southern sandbar," Nila noted, checking the spring tension on her wrist launchers, "they will handle the bulk manifests."

The mud-skimmers surged across the grey mud flats with a throaty roar, throwing roostertails of wet silt as they skimmed effortlessly over the sticky tidal channels.

High above the bay, the offshore storm flashed with violent sheets of green lightning, signaling that the capital fleet was fighting for its life against the true SS host.

Reaching the shadow of the Geryon’s towering iron hull, Fin caught a dangling cargo net with one gloved hand, hauling his body up the rusted plates.

Ruby and Nila followed in swift succession, vaulting over the armored gunwale onto the wide expanse of the industrial processing deck.

A piercing security siren wailed across the deck as automated defense turrets swung their twin barrels toward the boarding party.

Fin did not hesitate, activating Spatial Warp Slip to bypass the primary firing arc in a single instantaneous shift through space.

Reappearing directly behind the forward turret housing, he brought the reverse spike of his hatchet down with crushing momentum, shearing the pneumatic feed lines.

Ruby surged forward behind her tower shield, catching a volley of armor-piercing kinetic rounds against her reinforced steel face with steady balance.

Nila darted past the deflection cone, flicking four weighted tungsten pins through the optical lenses of the remaining sentry guns, blinding them completely.

"Lower hold access is secured," Nila called out, kicking open a reinforced hatch leading into the belly of the vessel.

Inside the stifling lower decks, the air was thick with the stench of engine grease, stale sweat, and the sharp copper tang of terrified adrenaline.

Row after row of welded iron containment pens lined the cargo hold, packing hundreds of captive beast-folk refugees and unawakened lower-district laborers together in misery.

At the sight of armed combatants breaching the hatch, panicked screaming erupted from the crowded pens, threatening to trigger a lethal stampede against the iron grates.

"Nim, we need you on the public address line right now," Fin spoke urgently into his throat microphone, "the captives are panicking."

From her secure console at the District One evacuation desk miles inland, Nim’s voice broadcast through the ship’s overhead loudspeakers with crystal clarity.

She spoke in the musical, rhythmic dialect of the northern beast-folk clans, her calm cadence washing over the terrified crowd like cool water over a burn.

"Do not rush the gates, brothers and sisters," Nim commanded with quiet authority, "these fighters wear the colors of Halden House, and municipal transport barges are already docking at the lower ports."

The panic subsided instantly as familiar clan idioms reached the captives’ ears, replaced by disciplined compliance as the prisoners moved toward the evacuation ramps.

"Bram’s porters are boarding the lower gangway now," Ruby reported, watching the orderly line of refugees file toward the waiting rescue barges.

"Good, now let us tear the brain out of this ship," Fin said, heading up the interior companionway toward the command bridge.

Kicking through the reinforced blast door of the wheelhouse, Fin found three bio-augmented Genesis technicians desperately attempting to purge the main console hard drives.

Two heavy combat drones stepped forward to intercept them, but Fin ducked beneath their pneumatic swings, severing their hydraulic knee actuators with two surgical strikes.

Nila pinned the lead technician to the bulkhead with a dagger through his coat collar, preventing his trembling fingers from striking the emergency incinerate switch.

Fin reached the central terminal, his fingers tearing the manual data cartridge from its brass housing before the purge cycle could initiate.

Beside the terminal lay a set of vellum engineering folios bound with brass rivets, bearing the unmistakable municipal waterworks seal.

It was the complete subterranean architectural blueprint for Facility Zero, detailing the hidden laboratory grid concealed beneath District Two.

Resting beside the blueprints sat the master frequency control console, containing the cryptographic key for the local gate-anchor transmitters.

"I have the facility blueprints and the anchor controls," Fin announced, stowing both critical items securely into his twenty-five-cubic-meter storage space.

"Tidal water is beginning to surge through the lower channel," Maya warned over the radio, "you have four minutes to clear the hull before the flats disappear."

"Set the thermal demolition charges on the engine block," Fin ordered, leading Ruby and Nila out onto the bridge wing.

They slid down the exterior safety cables onto the waiting mud-skimmer, the engines screaming as the pilot turned the craft hard toward the seawall.

Behind them, five muffled detonations rippled through the Geryon’s engine compartment, sending plumes of steam and smoke boiling into the sky.

The massive iron hull groaned as its keel snapped in two, settling permanently into the muddy seabed where it could never herd another monster wave.

Across the water, Colonel Mercer’s coastal marines had successfully liberated the other two carriers, guiding the full refugee fleet safely behind the breakwater.

A golden chime cascaded across Fin’s retina as the municipal defense grid registered the destruction of the rogue fleet.

"Thirty-six million experience," Ruby said, breathing heavily as the skimmer slammed through the rising surf toward Breakwater Post Four.

"We have their blueprints and their controls," Fin said, patting his belt where the storage space was sealed, "but the real fight is just beginning."

"Look at the continental shelf," Nila shouted, pointing her arm toward the boiling horizon.

With the acoustic anchors shattered, the monstrous SS entity offshore had severed its leash, driving a titanic tidal wave directly toward the Jonxy seawall.

The Verge was about to break, and Halden House stood directly in its path.
