"Burn this place down." Vlad’s consciousness returned to these words spoken by Jenny.

’I had my doubts that she was not just a waitress from the tautness of her neck and the way she moved,’ Vlad thought inwardly, his senses sharpening as awareness flooded back. ’Turned out she is behind all of this.’

He rose silently from the ground behind Jenny, his movements fluid and soundless, his crimson eyes gleaming at her from the smoke.

Jenny’s eyes widened in shock as she saw his reflection in the glass, his figure standing behind her like a spectre. She instantly pivoted on her foot, drawing a dagger from her waist in one swift motion, the blade aimed straight for his throat.

Clasp!

Vlad grabbed her wrist before the knife could reach his neck, halting the blade inches from his skin.

"You are the maid from the girls’ dormitory," Vlad said, his expression unreadable. His grip tightened around her wrist as he demanded, "Where is Seraphina?"

Jenny looked at him with complete shock, her auburn eyes wide.

"How do you know th—"

Her words cut off abruptly as Vlad tightened his grip, a soft crack accompanying the motion. The knife fell from her hand, clattering against the marble floor as she began losing feeling in her fingers.

"If you make me repeat myself again, I will break your arm," Vlad muttered, his tone turning dangerously cold.

Her brows furrowed from the pain, her jaw tightening as she fought to maintain her composure. She slowly moved her one hand behind her and jerked her fingers upward.

A pillar of rock ascended from the floor at her command, striking Vlad’s arm with brutal force. The sudden attack caused him to lose his grip, his feet staggering back as the impact jarred his shoulder.

’She is a Geo mage?’ Vlad muttered inwardly, his eyes fixed on the rock pillar that now stood between him and Jenny, its surface rough and uneven, cracks spreading across the marble floor around its base.

The noise of the pillar erupting from the floor and striking Vlad’s arm was loud enough to gather the attention of the firefighters who had gone inside the kitchen.

"Jenny, are you alright?" one of the firefighters asked, arriving at the hall with rapid footsteps. The others emerged from behind him, their forms silhouetted against the growing glow of the kitchen fire.

’Five adult males who could very well be trained fighters, and one mage,’ Vlad muttered inwardly, his eyes glancing through the people surrounding him. ’Things just turned from bad to worse.’

"The sedative I added to their food was potent enough to fell a Star One knight. Yet he still woke up," Jenny revealed from behind the pillar, holding her wrist that had already turned an ugly shade of purple. Her voice carried a mixture of shock and wariness. "He is not a normal kid."

The men dressed as firefighters took out daggers and knives from their pockets, the sharp metal gleaming against the kitchen fire that was slowly spreading outward, its flames licking at the walls and ceiling. The black smoke was already making it difficult to breathe in the enclosed floor, stinging Vlad’s eyes and throat.

’I cannot waste my time with them. Seraphina might be in danger,’ he decided inwardly, his jaw tightening. ’I must end this quickly.’

He ignored the firefighters who were advancing towards him with careful, measured steps, their weapons raised. He tightened his fist and launched it straight at the pillar behin him. If he could catch the woman who clearly appeared to be the leader of this group, he might be able to get the answers he needed. That was what he thought, at least.

Behind the pillar, Jenny was already prepared. Five massive drills of stone hovered around her head, spinning fast enough to blur, their razor-sharp tips pointed straight ahead.

With a sway of her hand, the drills shot forward, tearing through the air with a whistling screech. Vlad instantly ducked low, letting the sharp rocks soar past him, the wind of their passage ruffling his hair. They hit the kitchen counter behind him, drilling deep into the metallic surface with a deafening screech of grinding metal.

At the same time, the firefighters attacked him from both sides, swinging their sharp daggers in coordinated strikes aimed at his vitals.

Vlad grabbed the knife from the floor that had fallen from Jenny’s hand, using it to block the incoming attacks. The metallic clang of blade against blade rang through the smoke-filled hall. The firefighters felt as if they had just struck an immovable wall, the impact sending painful jolts through their arms from the force of their own attacks.

’Although they are skilled, they are just regular humans,’ Vlad realised from the strength behind the daggers. Their blows lacked the supernatural power of a trained knight.

The muscles of his legs tightened as he suddenly jolted upward, his feet leaving the ground in a powerful leap.

While mid-air, he threw the dagger with precision, the blade spinning end over end before piercing one opponent’s shoulder. The man screamed in pain as his black clothes turned damp with blood seeping from the injury.

Meanwhile, Vlad did not let the distraction go to waste. He landed behind another attacker and hurled a punch at his back. The impact caused his spine to bend inward as he was launched into the air in front of Vlad.

The other three were about to throw their daggers at Vlad. He read their moment with his piercing gaze and grabbed the airborne man mid-air, using him as a human shield.

The opponents hesitated to strike their own comrade, their movements stiffening, weapons faltering. Vlad seized the advantage, hurling the man with both arms towards the three opponents like a heavy battering ram. He crashed into them, sending all four tumbling through the tables and chairs behind them, the wood splintering and breaking from the impact.
