A face as smooth as glass and white as snow.

It was that of a boy, no older than sixteen, his steady breathing the only sign of the deep and peaceful sleep he lay in.

Through a dust-kissed glass panel, soft moon rays spilled into the room, faintly illuminating the face of a figure.

A face as smooth as glass and white as snow.

It was that of a boy, no older than sixteen, his steady breathing the only sign of the deep and peaceful sleep he lay in.

Silence engulfed the small, dimly lit bedroom, lingering for a long while before,

SCRRACTTCH!

The sound of claws dragging against the ground, slowly... then rabidly.

STEP!

STEP!

STEP!

Hurried footsteps drew nearer with each passing second, and the boy’s breathing grew increasingly uneven until,

BANG!

There was a heavy collision against the door and immediately, his eyes snapped open, a flicker of blue flaring through the room.

BAAAANG!

BAAAANG!

BAAAANG!

"Err! Err! Run!"

The panicked shout, half-filled with terror echoed out to him, and for a second, he froze.

The voice...it was familiar, that of his mother, but never before had it ever sounded so loud.

SCRAAATCCH!

ROOOOAAAR!

"Err! Ruuun!"

By instinct, he turned toward the slightly opened window, his hands reaching to pull it open wider, and escape, only for him to pause once more at the last second.

His entire body was screaming at him to run, but

"AHHHHHHH! NOO! NOOO!"

Her horrific scream grew louder, and he immediately sprang from the bed and raced toward the door.

A single pull of the knob, and a body was sent flying inward, crashing into him and knocking him to the ground, but he managed to land on his butt as the body fell onto him.

The scent was familiar, but when he looked down, his heart failed to beat for a single second at the horrific sight,

It was a face ruined beyond comprehension.

Five massive gashes tore across it, stripping away flesh and revealing the crimson-white bone beneath, while cracks spread across the exposed skull.

By the side, slimy white tissue spilled from a hole in the head, while her neck hung lifelessly to one side.

There was a massive wound bit wound on the left side of her neck, revealing pipe-like tissues that continuously spurted blood onto his face.

This...

This was his mother.

GROOOOWWWL!

A monstrous growl echoed out to him and he raised his head, seeing a silhouette slamming around erratically into the corridor wall.

It was enormous, resembling a dog that was somehow standing on its hind legs instead of all fours.

Blood dripped from its massive claws and elongated maw as its crimson eyes slowly turned and locked onto him.

ROOOOAAAAR!

A powerful roar, and all at once it flashed forward with a speed far too fast for the human eye to follow.

A wave of air slammed into Err’s face, but his eyes never for once closed.

He watched the blood-red claws came to a stop inches away from his face, as though there was an invisible barrier before him, but his mind didn’t focus much on that.

Instead, his eyes fixated on the creature’s face, and now that it was so close, he could see the tiny details:

The crimson hair on its head, the tiny purple dot within its crimson eyes.

All of it was beyond familiar. Then, suddenly, tears poured from the creature’s eyes, while its trembling claw hung mere inches from his face.

"Father?"

All of a sudden,

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

A powerful explosion sent Err flying away, as he rolled across the ground twice before slamming his back against the leg of the iron bed.

His vision immediately turned cloudy, yet as he looked forward one last time, he witnessed the final scene.

His mother’s corpse had been blasted into a corner of the room, and standing at the entrance was the dog-like monster, who now had a massive golden sword buried through its back, pinning it firmly to the ground.

Its eyes remained fiery, but there was also a hidden emotion. One of pain and confusion as it stared at him, claws quietly reaching forward.

STEP!

STEP!

The sound of footsteps echoed out and from the darkness, he watched a figure step forward, a gloved hand with a unique symbol, reaching for the sword buried in the monster’s body.

It pulled it free, before slashing to the side, sending a head quietly rolling across the room.

Those were the last things he saw before darkness consumed his consciousness.

Yet just before everything faded away, a quiet golden illumination appeared within his line of sight.
