SSS Awakening: Rise Of The Soul Sovereign!
Chapter 107: Birth Of A Dual Class Mage!
The news that Luna had successfully fused with the [Elemental Affinity] class was like a boulder dropped into a calm lake, sending enormous ripples through the Abyss Squad. Silas stared at the young woman standing before him, his usually stoic expression replaced by undisguised astonishment. Her aura had changed completely, and faint strands of elemental light drifted around her body as though the surrounding environment itself had begun responding to her presence.
A dual-class holder.
Such a thing had never existed in the history of Eclipse Online. Not during the game’s original era, and not even after the game had fused with reality. From the moment players first received their classes, the system had appeared to enforce a fundamental restriction: one player, one god-given class. It was practically an iron law of the system, something everyone had accepted as common knowledge.
Yet Aiden had broken that rule.
Not through some loophole or rare item, but through the overwhelming authority of the [Sovereign of Souls].
"Sir Aiden..." Silas opened his mouth, but for several seconds, he couldn’t find the right words. His gaze moved between Aiden and Luna, his mind still struggling to process what he had witnessed. Eventually, he exhaled slowly and shook his head. "This... this is truly unbelievable."
His expression contained more than shock. There was trust and loyalty, as always, but something else had appeared beneath them.
A faint trace of reverence.
The ability to devour a class was already something beyond ordinary understanding. The fact that Aiden could then bestow that stolen class upon another player made his power seem almost divine.
Aiden, however, remained completely calm.
He didn’t seem particularly impressed by what he had accomplished. Instead, his attention was focused on Luna, who was still examining the strange changes taking place within her body.
"How does it feel?" Aiden asked. "Tell me exactly what’s changed."
Luna took a deep breath and tried to organize her thoughts. Her emotions were still running high, but she forced herself to concentrate on the two distinct powers now existing within her.
"The [Heavenly Karmic Dice] class feels... more active."
She raised her left hand.
The three ancient dice materialized above her palm, slowly rotating in the air. Tiny motes of elemental light drifted around them like fireflies.
"Before, using the dice felt like pulling on an invisible thread of uncertainty. I could influence probability, but I couldn’t really understand what was happening beneath the surface. Now..." Luna hesitated as she searched for the right words. "Now the connection feels clearer. It feels like I can borrow some of the surrounding energy and use it to influence the result."
As she spoke, she gently tossed the gray-white [Minor Misfortune] die.
The die spun through the air without revealing a number before an obscure ripple spread outward from it.
The ripple settled over an empty plastic water bottle in the corner of the warehouse.
Pop!
Several fine cracks suddenly appeared across the bottle. Its cap loosened for no apparent reason, dropped to the floor, and rolled several feet away.
Luna blinked in surprise.
"I think I can guide Misfortune toward a more specific target now," she explained. "Or combine it with elemental effects. For example, I might be able to make someone’s fire spell more unstable or cause their ice armor to become more fragile."
She frowned slightly as she considered the limits.
"The effect is still weak, and the Mana consumption is fairly high, but I can definitely do it."
Aiden’s eyes flashed with understanding.
Just as he had suspected.
The [Heavenly Karmic Dice] involved concepts related to fate, probability, and causality, while [Elemental Affinity] gave Luna direct control over the fundamental forces that made up the material world.
The two classes were not merely compatible.
They could potentially amplify each other.
Luna’s control over elemental energy gave her greater precision when applying the effects of her dice, while her ability to manipulate probability could alter the conditions under which those elemental powers operated.
It was not simply a matter of one plus one equaling two.
If properly developed, the combination could produce an entirely new fighting style.
"What about Good Luck?" Aiden asked. "And your elemental control by itself?"
Luna immediately raised her right hand.
An orange-red flame appeared at her fingertips.
The fire danced gently, but its temperature was considerably higher than an ordinary low-level Fireball. More importantly, it remained remarkably stable, responding to the smallest movement of her finger.
"Elemental control feels incredible," Luna said, her eyes lighting up. "It’s almost as though I was born with it. The elements gather much faster than before, and I don’t think I’m consuming nearly as much Mana as the skill descriptions suggest I should."
With a thought, the flame disappeared.
A thin layer of frost immediately formed over her fingertip before transforming into a gentle breeze that circled around her wrist. The wind carried tiny particles of earth and faint electric sparks before dissipating.
Luna’s expression became even more excited.
"As for Good Luck..."
She looked toward Aiden.
"Sir Aiden, can I try it on you? Just a weak effect. There shouldn’t be any danger."
Aiden considered the request for a moment before nodding.
He wanted to see the combination himself.
Luna’s expression immediately became serious.
She held the emerald-green [Minor Good Luck] die in her left hand while raising her right hand. A small flame appeared above her fingertips.
She quietly focused her mind.
The emerald die began emitting a soft green glow, while the flame responded by becoming more vibrant. Rather than simply combining the two energies, Luna seemed to be weaving them together, using the power of fate to influence the elemental energy surrounding the flame.
Then she gently directed that combined force toward Aiden.
There was no dramatic explosion.
No overwhelming aura.
Aiden simply felt the elemental energy surrounding him suddenly become more active.
The fire elements in the air seemed unusually responsive, almost as though they were naturally inclined to cooperate with him.
He instinctively mobilized a trace of his own energy—not his class power, merely the elemental response his body could produce through ordinary means.
Pop!
A small flame appeared on his fingertip.
It was weaker than Luna’s, but the flame was extraordinarily condensed, and its temperature was surprisingly high.
A system notification immediately appeared.
[Prompt: You have been affected by "Fate · Elemental Protection (Weak)".]
[For a short period, the effectiveness of your fire-related abilities will be slightly increased, Mana consumption will be slightly reduced, and there is a small chance of triggering the "Elemental Joy" state.]
[If "Elemental Joy" is triggered, the effect of your next fire-based skill will be further enhanced.]
Aiden stared at the notification for several seconds.
He had expected Luna’s support ability to improve his luck.
This was different.
Her power was directly influencing the effectiveness of his elemental abilities while simultaneously altering the probability of an additional beneficial effect occurring.
She wasn’t merely giving him better luck.
She was modifying the conditions under which his abilities operated.
And this was only a weak [Minor Good Luck] effect from someone who had possessed her second class for less than a day.
If Luna eventually mastered stronger forms of Good Luck and learned to combine them with advanced elemental techniques, the potential was difficult to estimate.
"It worked!"
Luna’s voice pulled Aiden out of his thoughts.
She was staring excitedly at the condensed flame on his fingertip, her face flushed with happiness.
"Sir Aiden, did you see that? I actually did it!"
Aiden extinguished the flame and nodded.
"Very good."
He looked at her thoughtfully.
"Your support abilities are no longer limited to vague improvements in luck. You can now convert them directly into tangible combat advantages. At the same time, you have gained considerable offensive potential through elemental manipulation."
He paused before giving his next order.
"For the next few days, our priority is helping you fully understand and master the interaction between your two classes."
Aiden turned toward Silas.
"Silas, you’ll be her sparring partner."
Silas didn’t show the slightest sign of dissatisfaction.
Instead, he immediately slapped a fist against his chest armor, producing a dull metallic thud.
"No problem. Leave it to me."
He looked toward Luna with an eager expression.
"Come at me with everything you’ve got."
Silas clearly wanted to witness the limits of this unprecedented dual-class combination for himself.
Aiden then turned back toward Luna.
"There’s something else you need to understand. [Elemental Affinity] is a talent, not a complete combat system."
He walked toward [Alderton’s Alchemy Workbench] as he spoke, his mental power already sinking into its storage.
"Think of it as being given the finest sword in the world. The sword may possess incredible potential, but that doesn’t mean you automatically know how to use it."
Aiden searched through the loot he had accumulated as well as several skill books he had purchased through the Dark Abyss black market.
After a moment, he retrieved two books containing powerful elemental fluctuations.
He handed the first one to Luna.
[Fireball — Uncommon]
[Description: Condenses fire elements into a projectile and launches it at the target. A basic offensive spell, but its effectiveness increases considerably when used by someone with high elemental affinity.]
"Start with this," Aiden said.
He then handed her the second book.
[Frost Nova — Rare]
[Description: Releases a circular burst of frost around the caster, dealing ice-type damage to nearby enemies and applying a short-duration slowing effect. An excellent area-control and defensive skill.]
"This one will give you an effective crowd-control and self-preservation option."
Luna accepted both skill books as though they were priceless treasures.
"I’ll master them as quickly as possible."
Over the next three days, the Abyss Squad barely left the warehouse.
Instead, they devoted themselves entirely to helping Luna integrate her two classes.
A relatively open area behind the abandoned warehouse became their temporary training ground. The surroundings were rough and uneven, but there was enough space for Silas to act as a target without worrying about damaging the warehouse itself.
"Luna, come on!"
Silas planted his tower shield firmly into the ground.
"Use Fireball."
Luna stood several dozen meters away and took a deep breath.
A trace of nervousness remained in her purple eyes, but determination had already replaced most of her earlier uncertainty.
She raised her left hand.
The emerald-green [Minor Good Luck] die appeared between her fingers, emitting a faint halo that wrapped around her body.
At the same time, she raised her staff.
This was a rare-quality staff Aiden had temporarily acquired for her, and its bonus to spell damage made it ideal for training.
Luna activated [Elemental Affinity].
The change was immediate.
The surrounding fire elements surged toward her.
Instead of resisting, they seemed to flow willingly into her control. The process was so smooth that she barely needed to chant.
A large Fireball formed above her palm.
Unlike an ordinary Fireball, this one possessed a deeper, almost white-orange color. Its surface flickered with intense heat, and the air around it distorted from the temperature.
Luna thrust her staff forward.
The Fireball shot across the training ground.
BOOM!
It slammed directly into Silas’s tower shield.
Flames exploded outward, and a wave of heat swept across the area.
Silas’s massive body actually shifted backward by half a step.
A dark scorch mark appeared on the shield.
-87!
The damage number floated above him.
Silas stared at it for a moment before smacking his lips.
"That’s impressive."
He looked at Luna.
"For a mage around your level, that kind of damage is already approaching what I’d expect from a much higher-level fire specialist."
Luna herself looked surprised.
She had known [Elemental Affinity] was powerful, but she hadn’t expected the combination of her new class, [Minor Good Luck], and a basic Fireball to produce such a significant increase.
They continued with [Frost Nova].
Luna planted her staff against the ground, and a burst of frost immediately spread outward from her position.
The temperature dropped sharply.
White frost covered the ground, and a circular wave of ice expanded several meters farther than the original skill description suggested.
Silas deliberately stepped into the affected area.
His movements immediately became sluggish.
The slowing effect was clearly stronger than the standard version of the skill.
But the most troublesome discovery came when Luna began combining [Minor Misfortune] with elemental interference.
During one simulated confrontation, Silas charged toward her at full speed.
Luna activated the gray-white die and simultaneously infused the effect with a weak wind-elemental fluctuation.
She wasn’t trying to overpower Silas.
She was simply attempting to introduce the smallest possible disruption into his movement.
The result was unexpectedly effective.
Silas’s powerful [Charge] suddenly lost its rhythm.
His foot caught against an uneven section of ground at exactly the wrong moment.
His immense strength prevented him from actually falling, but his momentum shifted enough that he nearly crashed into a damaged wall beside the training ground.
Silas managed to stop himself at the last moment.
He stared at Luna.
Then he looked at the wall.
"This ability..."
He slowly turned back toward her.
"...is seriously troublesome."
Luna couldn’t help smiling.
Silas’s reaction confirmed what Aiden had already realized.
In a battle between skilled opponents, small disruptions could be far more dangerous than raw destructive power. Making an enemy’s attack miss by a few inches or causing their movement to falter at the wrong moment could determine the difference between life and death.
Three days of intensive training produced a remarkable transformation.
Luna not only mastered [Fireball] and [Frost Nova], but also began developing a rudimentary understanding of how her two classes could be used together.
She could now maintain a weak [Minor Good Luck] effect to improve her own elemental attacks while simultaneously using [Minor Misfortune] to interfere with an opponent.
More importantly, she had stopped treating her two classes as separate powers.
She was beginning to understand them as parts of a single combat system.
Her personality had changed as well.
The timid uncertainty she had carried when she first joined the Abyss Squad had faded considerably. She still retained her gentle nature, but there was now a quiet confidence in the way she moved and spoke.
When her purple eyes focused on an opponent, faint traces of elemental light seemed to flicker within them, intertwined with the mysterious fluctuations of fate.
Aiden watched her progress from the edge of the training ground.
A faint sense of satisfaction filled his heart.
This was exactly what he wanted.
He had broken a rule that everyone believed to be absolute.
He had taken an impossible power and turned it into another weapon for the Abyss Squad.
Luna’s success wasn’t merely an increase in their combat strength.
It was proof that the path opened by the [Sovereign of Souls] was capable of achieving things that Eclipse Online’s existing rules considered impossible.
The Abyss Squad had changed.
It was no longer simply Aiden and Silas forming the team’s offensive core.
Now, a third pillar had emerged.
A woman capable of manipulating both fate and the fundamental elements.
Aiden’s gaze settled on Luna as she launched another Fireball toward Silas.
"Training ends here."
His voice carried across the training ground.
Silas immediately lowered his shield.
Luna turned toward him, breathing slightly heavily.
Both of them looked at Aiden.
He walked out from the shadows and glanced toward the world beyond the warehouse.
The three days of preparation were over.
It was time to see what their new strength could actually accomplish.
Aiden’s gaze sharpened.
"Our next objective is the North District."
He paused.
"Thunder Ruins."
The corners of his mouth lifted into a faint, cold smile.
The newly strengthened Abyss Squad was about to step onto a much larger stage.
