Damon took a glance at the notifications but he quickly closed them. Any other time he would have probably celebrated but now he had other things to do. He was not out of the woods yet. In fact, things were just starting.
He might have escaped from the first wave of Gods who had descended upon Earth, but Damon wasn’t stupid enough to believe that was the end of it.
He had killed one of them. From what that Goddess had said before dying, her clan would already know something had happened. Perhaps they didn’t know exactly what had happened yet, but Damon doubted it would take them long to find out.
And once they did... More would come. Stronger Gods would be after him. Even otherwise, there was already a huge line of enemies waiting for him.
Damon rubbed his forehead. "Fuck."
"Master, its best to get to the trade hub immediately." La Rocha once again stressed.
Damon sighed. He looked at the ruined world all around him. "Trade hub hmmm..." He was silent for a while. Runes of teleportation then started lighting up all around him but before they could fully materialize, they vanished.
"No." Damon shook his head. "Not this time."
"Master?"
"Every single time I have always run and hidden somewhere," Damon continued. "When Earth Online started, I ran. When the factions came after me, I ran. When someone stronger showed up, I found some hole to crawl into until I became strong enough to come back."
"But now I will not be running. Fuck it. Where will I even run to? They are Gods. if they put enough effort they will find me no matter where I run. So no. Running and hiding is not the answer this time and I will not be doing this."
A cold glint appeared in Damon’s eyes as his lips curled up with excitement. "We are done playing defense. This time we will be on the offense. There is no point in being cautious or laying low anymore. It is time to be as reckless as possible."
"Master..."
"Yup it is time to go God hunting!"
La Rocha was absolutely shocked. "Master! I know I have not been the best servant to you in the past. But I swear on my dao, right now I am truly and sincerely your servant. So please believe me when I say this."
La Rocha appeared directly in front of Damon. "This is a terrible fucking idea."
Damon smiled. For perhaps the first time since they had met, La Rocha looked genuinely concerned for him rather than concerned about whatever consequences Damon’s death might have for himself.
"God hunting?" La Rocha continued incredulously. "Master, you killed one God. One! And you only managed to do that because she looked at you like you were a piece of dirt stuck beneath her shoe!"
Damon’s smile twitched.
"She suppressed her Divine Origin to descend into this pathetic world. She allowed you to approach her. She had no idea your bloodline could devour Origin Energy. She was poisoned before she even realized you were dangerous. Everything that could possibly go wrong for her went wrong!"
La Rocha raised a finger. "And even then, you almost fucking died!"
Damon chuckled.
La Rocha looked like he wanted to pull his hair out. "Master, you possess Godhood, yes. Your body has undergone Divine Transformation, yes. Your Origin Core is frankly an abomination that I do not understand, yes. But you don’t know how to properly use any of it!"
He started counting on his fingers.
"You possess no Divine Arts."
A second finger.
"No Divine Techniques."
A third.
"No understanding of Origin Laws."
A fourth.
"No Divine Domain."
A fifth.
"You don’t even know how Gods are ranked!"
Damon paused. That one actually caught his attention. "There are ranks?"
La Rocha stared at him. "Of course there are fucking ranks!"
"Oh."
La Rocha’s eye twitched.
Damon rubbed his chin. "And what rank am I?"
"You don’t have a rank!"
"What?"
"You cheated! You devoured someone else’s Godhood!"
La Rocha stared at him helplessly for a few seconds before finally sighing. "What I am trying to say is that hunting Gods right now is suicide. The Goddess you devoured was already vastly stronger than you. Had she treated you seriously from the beginning, this conversation would not be happening."
That much Damon couldn’t deny. His smile slowly faded.
La Rocha continued. "And she is merely one God among countless others. There are ancient Gods who have accumulated Origin for millions of years. Gods who rule entire worlds. Gods who command armies of Divine beings. Gods whose names alone are enough to make entire civilizations kneel." He paused. "And then there are things even Gods avoid. Master..."
"So you’re saying there are plenty of targets."
La Rocha’s face fell. Damon laughed and slapped him on the shoulder. "Relax. I said we’re going God hunting. I didn’t say we’re going to knock on the strongest God’s front door and ask him to come outside."
La Rocha narrowed his eyes.
"You’re right about one thing. That Goddess underestimated me. If she hadn’t, I would’ve died." Damon looked down at his hand. "And the next one won’t."
News would spread eventually. Perhaps nobody knew exactly what had happened yet, but once the truth came out, Damon doubted another God would casually stroll up to him and stick their neck beside his mouth. His greatest advantage had disappeared the moment he killed the Goddess. So he needed new ones.
"That’s why we’re not going to fight fairly. We are going to act like maniacs and show up at the doorstep of random Gods who have nothing to do with us. Everyone in this whole fucking cosmos is fair game."
Damon smiled a big maniacal smile and grinned at La Rocha. "So do you happen to know the location of any of the Gods?"
