Chapter 494: Moon Vs Assassin [2]
Chapter 494: Moon Vs Assassin [2]
Moon drove the dagger down into the assassin’s knee.
~SHRRK~
The blade punched through cartilage and bone. Purple lightning flooded the wound instantly, the soul-scarring current ripping through the joint and the leg connected to it.
"AAAAAARRGHHH!"
The assassin’s leg buckled beneath him, the destroyed knee unable to support his weight.
Moon ripped the dagger out and stepped back, putting distance between them again.
The wound wouldn’t kill the man. A destroyed knee could be ignored for some time by someone of his strength. But it would cripple his combat effectiveness for the rest of this fight. His speed had been one of his greatest assets, and Moon had just taken it away.
The assassin writhed on the ground, his face twisted between agony and that broken, lunatic grin that refused to fade before standing up once again.
"You... you tricked me." He gasped, his voice hoarse. "Pretty mage tricked me... oh, oh, that was good. That was so good. So clever..."
He started laughing through the pain.
Moon raised his staff. Blue fire began to form once again, [Explode] gathering at the tip.
Suddenly, the assassin rose to his feet.
He stood as if his knee had never been touched. The wound was still there, blood soaking through his trousers, but he moved on it like the damage didn’t exist. A grin twisted across his face, expecting Moon’s surprise.
Moon’s lips curved upward instead.
’He’s faking. Of course he is.’
Moon hadn’t moved forward to push the advantage when the man fell. He hadn’t approached to deliver a finishing blow at close range because he felt the bait.
To Moon, the assassin’s bait had been obvious.
He kept his distance, his staff raised, and continued his cast as if nothing had changed.
The blue fire shot forward.
The assassin met it with another Crescent Reaper, his blade carving the dark crescent that absorbed the explosion. But this time, he didn’t stay where he stood. He rode the impact, using the force of the collision to launch himself forward, leaping into the air with both blades raised.
Mid-air, his free hand flicked something small.
The device detonated between them in a flash of pure white light that erased Moon’s vision entirely for a moment. The world went bright, then black, then bright again, his eyes overwhelmed by the sudden intensity.
’A second order blinding rune!’
The assassin descended on him through the blindness but Moon didn’t panic.
He stood still, his breathing steady, his weight balanced. He couldn’t see, but he could feel. The disturbance of air. The slight whistle of the dagger descending toward him.
~Ptui~
The blade entered his stomach. The cold of the steel sliding through layers of muscle and the burst of pain that radiated outward from the wound.
"Hahaha!" The assassin’s laugh erupted. "I got you! I got you, pretty mage! I knew you’d fall for it! I knew you’d—"
His voice cut off.
He had expected to look and find Moon’s face twisted in shock, mouth open in a soundless gasp, eyes wide with the realisation that this was the end.
Instead, he saw a smirk.
Moon’s lips curved upward calmly. His hand wrapped around the assassin’s wrist, holding him in place. His other hand pressed against the man’s chest.
Lightning erupted from Moon’s entire body.
Purple electricity surged outward in every direction, racing across Moon’s skin and channeling directly into the assassin through the embedded dagger. The blade became a conductor, the current poured through the steel, and through Moon’s own hands straight into the assassin’s body.
The assassin’s eyes rolled back into his skull. His mouth fell open. His muscles seized so violently that his entire body lifted off the ground from the convulsion for a moment.
Moon had poured a large portion of Mana into the attack. He needed a strong burst that didn’t last long to avoid any long lasting soul injuries to the assassin.
Moon cut the current after exactly half a second. He had gotten what he needed.
The assassin’s body went limp, the dagger still in Moon’s stomach. He hung there, dazed, his mind reeling from the sudden voltage that had ripped through every nerve in his body.
Moon raised his hand, a sharp magma projectile formed in his palm, burning red.
The molten spike struck the assassin square in the stomach, embedding itself in his abdomen with a sizzle of cooked flesh. Moon followed up immediately. His fist drove forward and slammed into the assassin’s gut, into the exact spot where the projectile sat.
The punch drove the magma spike deeper.
It punched through the assassin’s back, the burning tip emerging in a spray of blood and tissue.
The assassin’s body went rigid for a moment, suspended on Moon’s fist. Then it slumped, the lunatic grin finally dying on his face as the shock of the wound finally overwhelmed even his bloodthirsty enthusiasm.
Moon stepped forward.
The dagger was still in his stomach.
The assassin collapsed forward onto his hands. The magma spike protruded from his back, smoke rising from the burne edges.
Moon glanced at his watch, then walked toward the fallen man.
He grabbed the assassin’s wrist firmly, pulled it toward the watch on his arm, and pressed the surrender button.
The watch chimed.
[You have gained 560 Points]
Moon’s brows rose at the number.
’Five hundred and sixty.’ Moon quickly ran through the top ten rankings and their points that he had just seen a moment earlier.
’He was the person ranked top 8...’
Despite his erratic behavior and unsettling presence, the lunatic had clearly been competent enough to climb into the upper tier of the bracket. The points he had accumulated reflected aggressive, successful hunting throughout the past twelve hours. Whatever else he was, he had earned his ranking.
A moment later, Two Evolvers appeared at the edge of the clearing. One of whom was a healer wearing the white-trimmed robes of the tournament’s medical staff.
The two completely ignored Moon, focusing on the injured man instead.
The healer crouched beside the assassin, immediately beginning to channel healing energy through his hands. The other Evolver, positioned himself around the wounded man and prepared to transport him out of the zone once the healer was done.
