Chapter 346 Moon's Evaluation
Chapter 346 Moon’s Evaluation
“Next!”
The assistant’s voice prompted Moon to step forward toward the service desk. She was a young woman with soft, shoulder length hair and a professional smile on her face, her fingers already hovering over her keyboard before Moon sat down.
“Name?”
“Moon Outlaw.”
“New Evolver?”
“Yes. Just a few hours ago.”
The assistant typed the information in, and her fingers paused mid-keystroke. She looked up from her screen with a flicker of surprise in her eyes.
“Oh? You were an S-Rank Awakener.”
Moon said nothing. She studied the details on her screen for a moment longer before returning to her composed expression.
“I’m assuming you haven’t acquired any Spirit Art yet?”
“I haven’t. I was told the Association provides a basic one for free.”
“We do.” She nodded. “However, you are not eligible for the free provision. That benefit is reserved exclusively for Evolvers who are contracted under the Association. According to our records, you are currently registered under the Glassy Group.”
She turned the screen slightly so Moon could see his file.
“Since you belong to an external organization, you would need to either purchase a Spirit Art independently or request one through your Group. Given your rank as a former S-Rank Awakener, it shouldn’t be difficult. The Glassy Group would most likely provide you with a Fair Rank Spirit Art rather than a Basic one.”
Moon took that in. Fair Rank was almost twice as good as the Basic one. Whilst Basic only provided him with the ability to open, and fill ten spiritual acupoints, the Fair Rank Spirit Art allowed him to open 25!
“I see. Thank you for the help.” He paused. “What about the Spirit Art Manual? I’ve heard the term but I don’t have a clear understanding of what it is.”
The assistant offered a polite smile. “I can provide you with a detailed leaflet explaining the Spirit Art Manual after your testing is complete. It covers everything you need to know, including rankings, and where to acquire them.”
She stood up from behind the desk and gestured toward the doors at the back.
“Would you like to follow me for your evaluation? We can handle everything in one visit.”
“Sure.”
Moon followed the assistant down a corridor lined with identical doors on both sides. She stopped at one of them and pressed her card against the reader.
The door opened with a soft hiss of pressurized air. The seal around the frame was reinforced, designed to contain whatever happened inside. Moon glanced at the edges as he stepped through. The walls were very thick, filled with runes he couldn’t quite understand.
‘These are Second Order runes…really powerful. I don’t understand a thing here.’
The room beyond was large. Spacious enough to make Moon pause for a moment. It was bigger than his previous apartment, the one that had been destroyed in the latest conflict. The ceiling sat high above them, and the floor was made of some kind of dark material that had been designed to absorb the impact of Evolver attacks.
At the center of the room stood a combat doll. It was humanoid in shape, featureless, and bolted to a heavy base plate that was anchored into the floor. Faint lines of runes ran across its surface, glowing a dull blue.
“Since you are registered as a mage, we will not factor in your physical strength.” The assistant explained, her tablet already in hand. “We will focus exclusively on your magical power output.”
Moon nodded. That was better for him. He had been worried about the physical evaluation. Hiding his true physical capabilities during a controlled test would have been difficult. If the evaluators noticed him holding back, it would raise questions he didn’t want to answer.
‘Seems like I was overthinking it. This makes things a lot easier.’
“The combat doll is calibrated and ready for use.” The assistant continued. “You will be given three attacks. Please use your strongest strikes each time. Do note that, the average of the three will determine your score, which will be used to calculate your combat power and star rank. So choosing the level of mana you put into each strike will be crucial to optimizing your ranking.”
She stepped back toward the wall, positioning herself behind a faint line on the floor that Moon assumed was the safety threshold.
“You may attack whenever you are ready.”
Moon nodded and stepped forward. He rolled his shoulders and loosened his arms as he faced the combat doll.
‘Time to see how strong my attacks truly are.’
A grin flickered across his face internally. He had no intention of holding back his magical power. He couldn’t care less if the Association found out he was a powerful mage. In fact, he wanted them to know.
Moon wasn’t afraid of the attention. He had a powerful backing behind him. And more importantly, the news would spread. It always did. Word of a strong new Evolver would travel through the Association’s channels, through the groups, through the gossip networks that connected every corner of this world.
Quickly, it would reach Tom.
‘That old man will hear about this. And when he does, I can leverage it for more benefits from his sponsorship.’
Moon raised his hand toward the combat doll. Mana surged through his body, gathering in his palm.
Moon stared at his various skills for a moment before making his decision. [Lightning Raiju]. It was his strongest single-target attack, concentrated and precise. Perfect for a controlled test like this.
This will be the perfect way to gauge how strong my skill is before and after evolution.
A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
He extended his hand toward the combat doll and began channeling. Streaks of blue lightning crackled around his fingers, snaking up his forearm and gathering in his palm. The energy compressed, tightened, and slowly began to take shape. A small wolf formed in the center of the crackling light, its outline sharpening with every second Moon fed mana into it.
The hairs on the assistant’s arms stood on end despite her standing well behind the safety line.
“This…”
