SSS Awakening: I am the First Legendary Mage
Chapter 179: Soloing Three Mid Rank Species
It struck him like a battering ram, sending his body flying backward through the building as he shattered two walls before crashing into a third and falling to the ground. Alex puked blood, and his head spun violently as he tried to understand what had happened.
Despite the pain, his mind remained calm, and when he forced himself to stand, his leg suddenly gave way beneath him.
He fell to one knee and looked down, only to see that his leg was bent in a direction it should not have been. Pain assaulted his mind. He gritted his teeth, trying to ignore it, and noticed something even more concerning, as the Will inside the mana flowing through his leg was slowly being absorbed away.
The Wild Orc Shaman was attacking him, and the absorption continued spreading through his body as Alex struggled to maintain control over his mana. However, just as the effect was about to cover another part of his body, it suddenly disappeared.
’Roan must have attacked the Wild Orc Shaman.’
Alex did not waste the opportunity and poured more and more mana into his soul, creating an enormous amount of Will before using it to take control of the mana throughout his body. He swiftly used the Will to push his Advanced Battle Instinct Spell into overdrive, restoring his ability to think and react properly despite his injuries.
However, the Wild Orc Leader had not been wasting time because an Earth Spear suddenly appeared in front of him. It moved far faster than Alex’s eyes could properly follow before punching through his shoulder and nailing him to the wall behind him.
The spear immediately began to morph, and Alex understood that it was about to explode. He swiftly controlled the mana and compressed several hardened layers around the spear, continuing to generate more Will so that his mana control would remain precise.
The Earth Spear exploded, and the hardened mana layers distorted violently as they contained the explosion. Alex tore himself away from the wall, threw the spear away, and rushed out of the building without giving himself time to think about the pain.
At almost the same moment, the walls of the high school broke apart as a giant Wild Orc outside swung its club like a baseball bat. The weapon was heading directly toward the crowd of humans, and Alex. If it was not stopped within the next second, countless people would die.
Alex was still in the middle of creating his Mana Railgun, so he could not use it to stop the club. He was forced to watch as the weapon approached, knowing there was no time to do anything to stop it.
Then several giant earth walls suddenly rose from the ground. A few of them wrapped around the club and were immediately torn apart, but they slowed its movement enough for several more walls to rise directly in its path.
The club smashed through the walls one after another before finally losing enough momentum to stop. The Wild Orc Leader had stopped the attack.
The monster raised its wand and roared, and although Alex could not understand its language, the anger in its voice was obvious. The humans were likely necessary for completing the portal, so the Wild Orc Leader could not allow its own soldiers to kill them recklessly.
Those few seconds brought the monster’s attack were enough for Alex to reach the Wild Orc Leader.
He kicked the Wild Orc Leader’s shin with all the strength he could gather, and a sharp crack sounded as the monster’s leg bent in the wrong direction. Its massive body lost balance and began falling, giving Alex an opening.
Alex made his Mana Sword disappear and immediately launched an uppercut. The punch struck the monster’s chin with enough force to create a small shockwave, but before he could follow with another punch, a spike suddenly rose from the ground and punched through his wrist.
Alex immediately pulled his hand upward before the spike could pass completely through his wrist and sever it. He was still too late to avoid serious damage, however, and a gaping hole had been torn through his wrist as blood began pouring from the wound.
His hand had lost most of its strength, causing the Fire Wand to slip from his fingers. Alex reacted without hesitation and created a ring of condensed mana around its handle, keeping the weapon suspended in the air beside him.
Another powerful gust of mana struck him as the monster attempted to throw him away. This time, Alex was prepared, and mana threads shot from his feet and anchored themselves into the ground, preventing the force from sending him flying.
The Wild Orc Leader did not seem to expect the sudden change, and that moment of hesitation gave Alex enough time to form another Mana Sword. He drove the blade into the monster’s abdomen.
The Wild Orc Leader swung its wand at him, and Alex did not even hear the attack. He only felt a sudden pain in his right lung, but he ignored it as his mind remained focused on generating more Will.
He compressed the Will and poured it into the Mana Sword, improving his control over the weapon while the blade began vibrating faster and faster. Alex gritted his teeth and swung the sword upward toward the place where the Wild Orcs had their hearts.
The blade sliced cleanly through the monster. The Wild Orc Leader froze as Alex immediately jumped away and swung his sword once more, separating the monster’s head from its body before backing away at full speed.
He only needed a few seconds to confirm that the Wild Orc Leader was dead before earth-shattering roars erupted from outside the school. The Wild Orcs had gone wild.
The nearest giant Wild Orc swung its club without caring about the humans in its path, and the people began screaming as they tried to escape. Alex had already cut off his sense of hearing, but even then, the intensity of the screams was strong enough that he could feel their vibrations through his body.
His Mana Railgun was finally complete. Alex raised his hand and fired, and the projectile struck the giant Wild Orc’s club hard enough to stop it before it could reach the humans.
Without wasting another moment, Alex formed a Fire Bullet and fired it directly at the monster. The projectile punched cleanly through its head, and Alex immediately moved again, rushing toward the remaining Wild Orcs before they could cause more casualties.
One after another, the monsters fell beneath Alex’s attacks as he cleared the area around the school. He confirmed that Roan had managed to kill the Wild Orc Shaman with the help of the other captured Ascendants, leaving no immediate threat inside the school grounds.
Only then did Alex breathe again, or at least he tried. His body had reached its limit, and the moment he stopped moving, his legs gave out beneath him as he fell to the ground.
His vision began to dim around the edges, and he could feel his remaining stamina disappearing rapidly. Alex forced himself to stay awake because he knew that losing consciousness now could mean never waking up again.
Notifications began appearing in front of him, and although he could barely focus on them, he still recognized the familiar system messages. They listed the monsters he had killed before changing to notifications about his spells.
