SSS Awakening: I am the First Legendary Mage

Chapter 171: Reason Of Alex’s Strength

  • Next Chapter

There was a high chance that only a small number of Wild Orcs had appeared in the beginning. Alex and Roan had already killed more than twenty Wild Orcs, so there should not have been many left. Of course, that did not mean the Wild Orcs were no longer a problem, because their strongest member, the leader, was still alive.

Without the Wild Orc Shaman, however, the remaining Wild Orcs could no longer receive its buffs, which meant Alex should be able to kill them with Fire Bullet.

Even if there happened to be another Wild Orc Shaman somewhere, Alex’s mana control had improved considerably after learning Soul Reinforcement Spell, so the Wild Orcs would probably have a much harder time dodging his attacks even while enhanced.

That meant Alex likely would not need to engage them in close combat. He could fight from a distance and use his superior ranged attacks to slowly eliminate them instead.

The spears that had attacked them earlier also gave Alex another reason to believe that the Wild Orc leader was a long-range combatant, so it would probably try to prevent Alex from approaching it and force him to fight from a distance.

Alex would have to fight from long range. In that situation, his current physical condition was acceptable because he would probably not need to engage in close combat, and ranged combat placed much less pressure on his injured body.

However, Alex knew that he was only trying to find reasons to invest his stat points into Mana instead of Constitution. The logic was not completely wrong, but he was clearly allowing his desire for greater power to influence his judgment.

He had already learned that being stronger did not necessarily mean making the most aggressive choice. If his decision was wrong, it would not only put his own life at risk but could also endanger his family, and that was not something he could afford.

Alex looked at the two stat points he had received and decided that he needed to know a crucial piece of information before making the choice. Roan had fought alongside him and had a better understanding of the Constitution stat, so his judgment would be useful.

"Hey, Roan, I have two stat points. If I invest them into Constitution, how much would my injuries heal?" Alex asked. He decided that he would choose which stat to increase after hearing Roan’s answer rather than making the decision based purely on what he wanted.

Roan thought about it for a moment before answering. "I can answer you, but for that, I need to know how many injuries you have. I already saw the external ones when you changed your clothes, so can you tell me about your internal injuries as well, if you have any?"

Alex nodded and began explaining the condition of his body. He told Roan about the damage to his bones, his internal injuries, and the condition his body had been left in after fighting the Wild Orcs. The more Roan listened, the more his expression hardened, and by the time Alex finished, he looked much more serious than before.

After a brief silence, Roan spoke firmly. "Let’s go back. We need to get you to a healer urgently."

Roan stood up, his expression hardened as he looked down at Alex. However, Alex remained sitting where he was, showing no intention of following him.

"Alex—"

"You can see me now, and you also saw me during the battle. I know my condition is bad, but I can still fight in this condition. Just tell me whether Constitution can heal these injuries to a good extent. If it cannot, then I will find a healer after we deal with the Wild Orc leader," Alex interrupted calmly.

Roan stared at Alex for several seconds. It seemed that he was trying to intimidate Alex into changing his mind, but Alex had no intention of doing that. He was too close to his sister’s location to turn around now.

After a while, Roan finally sighed and shook his head. "I guess I understand how you became so strong."

He was quiet for another moment before continuing. "I’m sorry, but your injuries are too severe. Two Constitution stat points will not make much of a difference for you right now. You would probably need at least four or five stat points before the recovery becomes significant enough to change your condition."

Alex nodded. With that answer, his decision was confirmed, and he knew exactly where he needed to put his two stat points.

At the same time, Roan’s words made Alex realize just how serious his injuries actually were. If even two Constitution points could not provide enough recovery to make a meaningful difference, then his body was in a much worse condition than he wanted to admit.

Alex could not help thinking about his battle with the Mantis. That fight had nearly killed him, but it had also taught him something extremely important.

By using mana to close his wounds and support his damaged bones, he had discovered a way to keep his body functioning even when it should have already collapsed. The method was far from perfect. Maintaining that kind of control required a great deal of concentration, and the pain had never disappeared, but Advanced Battle Instinct had helped him focus on what mattered instead of allowing the pain to overwhelm him. Soul Reinforcement Spell had also improved his control over Will, making it easier for him to maintain the hardened mana necessary to keep his damaged body together.

Alex looked toward Roan. "Go and buy some clothes for yourself from a nearby shop."

"Shouldn’t we stay together?" Roan asked.

"We already cleared out the monsters around this area, and you’re still within my Mana Sense range. If something appears, I’ll know about it. And pay for the clothes even if there’s no one around. That way, you don’t have to feel like you’re stealing them," Alex said.

"Otherwise, you can just come back without them. I don’t mind it if you are okay with walking around half naked," Alex added with a shrug.
