Chapter 129: Area Of Wild Orcs

"Give these to your wife and sons. I know you probably don’t want them fighting, but it would still be better if they were strong enough to protect themselves," Alex said.

Alex did not mind giving the Gene Potentials to Zach. In fact, there was a practical reason behind it.

Zach was already a member of Alex’s faction, which meant that he was supposed to remain with the group. However, Alex understood that Zach would leave his family at police station, and probably want to stay with his family there, especially with the police station being another possible place of safety.

If Zach chose to stay with his family at police station instead of the faction, Alex could simply order him to remain with the group as the faction leader. But doing that would create unnecessary tension between them, and Zach might refuse. Alex saw no reason to damage their relationship when there was an easier solution.

It was better to earn Zach’s loyalty instead.

By giving him Gene Potentials for his family, Alex could make Zach feel that remaining with the faction was beneficial to him and his loved ones. Besides, Zach would eventually be able to obtain more Gene Potentials by killing monsters himself, so Alex was simply giving him something early while strengthening the faction at the same time.

Alex knew there was something slightly scummy about the way he was thinking about it. Still, even if he had not considered all those things, he would have given the Gene Potentials to Zach anyway. Alex had no immediate use for them, and making another family stronger would only benefit the faction in the long run.

Zach did not accept them immediately. He looked down at the Gene Potentials in his hand before raising his eyes toward Alex, his expression complicated.

"Thank you," Zach said.

Zach did not add anything else. He simply nodded before leaving the room with the three Gene Potentials.

A few seconds later, Alex heard an excited squeal coming from outside. It was Caleb, the older twin.

Shaking his head with a wry smile, Alex turned toward Kevin and Ben. Edward had already left the room, leaving only the two behind.

As promised, Alex taught Ben the Body Reinforcement Spell. Ben already had a high Mind stat, so he was able to understand much faster than Kevin had. After explaining the basic principles and giving him a few instructions on how to circulate his mana properly, Alex moved on to Kevin.

According to Kevin, his Body Reinforcement Spell had already been close to reaching Level 2 after their battles at Jaelo Supermarket. Alex examined his mana circulation and gave him a few pointers about where he was making mistakes.

Surprisingly, Kevin really was only an inch away from reaching Level 2. With Alex correcting a few small problems in his mana circulation, Kevin’s Body Reinforcement Spell finally reached Level 2 within a few minutes.

A happy smile appeared on Kevin’s face as he realized what had happened. He was clearly excited about the improvement, so Alex left him and Ben together to continue practicing the Body Reinforcement Spell while he went to check on the others.

When Alex arrived in the living area of the apartment, everyone was already gathered there. He looked around before speaking.

"Everyone can rest or train for now. We’ll move out in half an hour," Alex said.

Alex wanted to rush toward his sister immediately. The thought of her being somewhere out there while Wild Orcs roamed the area made it difficult for him to remain calm, but there was something he needed to do first.

He needed to understand Will.

Alex wanted to learn either the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell or the Mana Circuit Spell before they moved out and entered the territory where the Wild Orcs were active. He had a feeling that learning the Mana Circuit Spell would require a lot of practice with Will, so he decided to focus on learning the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell at the very least.

The area ahead was going to be dangerous, filled with Wild Orcs, and with his current strength, facing two-three Wild Orcs at the same time would be troublesome, let alone ten or fifteen at once.

He could instantly kill one of them with a Fire Bullet if he caught it off guard. However, the Wild Orcs were extremely fast, and while Alex was killing one, the other could close the distance and attack him before he had enough time to react.

That was unacceptable.

If Alex wanted to become stronger, he needed to obtain his evolved Class or learn the Advanced Battle Instinct Spell. The Advanced Battle Instinct Spell would also help him improve his mana control, but he still needed to figure out how to use Will before he could properly learn it.

Alex gritted his teeth hard enough that they made a faint cracking sound. His sister was still out there. Had the Wild Orcs attacked her high school, or were they simply somewhere between his current location and her school? He did not know whether she was safe, and the uncertainty was making his thoughts increasingly restless.

Alex immediately increased the output of the Battle Instinct Spell. The change was almost instant, and his emotions were gradually suppressed, allowing his thoughts to become clearer and more logical again.

He wanted to rush ahead right now, but charging into danger without enough strength would not necessarily help his sister. If Alex got himself killed or injured before reaching her, he would lose the ability to protect his family entirely.

He could not allow that to happen. Therefore, he would move carefully.

Alex confirmed with his faction members that they had received the same Tutorial Quest as him. Afterward, he looked around the apartment, searching for someone.

"Where are you going?" Robert asked, perhaps realizing that Alex was leaving the apartment.

"Rooftop. Since we blocked the last spear, the leader of the Wild Orcs might try something again. I’ll stay up there while practicing my spells so I can notice any attack before it reaches us, but you all need to stay alert as well," Alex said.

Robert and the others nodded.

Before leaving, Alex approached Charlotta, who was still holding Mia in her arms. He spoke a few words to the little girl and then carefully took the cat from her.
