Chapter 237: Complete Affinity

Evan felt the goddess's gaze on him, just as he heard her words.

He immediately understood he was in trouble, but he tactically decided to set all of that aside and focus on the situation in front of him.

The Abyss Gods, now fully alert at Evan's sudden appearance, were terrified by the fact that they hadn't sensed him arrive. One moment they were alone with the dragon woman, and the next, he was simply there.

They understood what had happened, and it was precisely because they understood it that they were terrified.

Without a single exchange of words, all four of them vanished from their spots, all attempting to flee.

The instant Evan arrived, they knew there was no chance of victory against this human. In fact, they sensed that if they remained there any longer, they would perish. So they didn't hesitate to run.

Normally, even in situations like this, death was never truly the end for them, only a chance at rebirth. But in this moment, their instincts told them that if they fell into this human's hands, it would be the end for them. A certain end, with no possibility of rebirth whatsoever.

Unfortunately for them, no matter how fast they'd been, they had still underestimated Evan's strength. He moved his gaze only once, and instantly located every single one of them in flight.

"Where do you think you're going?" His words resonated inside all their minds, and before they could even fully register them, the scenery before them shifted. In an instant, they found themselves back exactly where they'd started, their starting point, except this time they weren't free. They were pinned in place.

Their eyes filled with panic and terror as they stared at the figure before them, watching them with a calm gaze, almost devoid of any emotion.

There was no satisfaction or pride in his overwhelming strength, no displeasure at their attempt to flee, only indifference, as though he were looking at insects too insignificant to be worth his time.

The fetus, no longer surrounded by its fleshy shell, spoke, its voice, hoarse and trembling, echoing through the air.

"You… you won't get away with this like you did the last few times. Our lord will be here any moment now, and then-" but it never got the chance to finish. Its voice suddenly cut off, and its body trembled before abruptly bursting apart.

There was no explosion, no sound, only shreds of flesh flying in every direction, splattering over the two nearby Abyss Gods and the others, falling to the ground.

And so, under the stunned gazes of the remaining Abyss Gods, one of their own had died.

Just as they thought their companion was about to return to the Abyss, they saw an unsettling sight unfold.

Threads of violet smoke emerged from what remained of the Abyss God's body, rising upward and condensing into a spark of violet light.

It was that god's divinity, a fragment of power belonging to the Abyss itself. A fragment that, instead of returning to the Abyss, flew straight toward Evan, who caught it without any hurry.

"I've wanted to get rid of you for a while," he said, looking at the spark of violet light.

Then, without the slightest hesitation, he crushed it in his fist. The spark shattered into fine particles, but instead of scattering, it seemed to be absorbed into him.

[Ding! You have absorbed the divinity of an Abyss God.]

Evan immediately felt a thread of power enter his being and merge with his Concept Core.

He already had an extremely high affinity with void energy, but it had stalled at 70%, and further progress wasn't something he could achieve simply by training with void energy alone. It required something more.

And that something more was precisely the divinity of these Abyss Gods.

He seemed satisfied, then turned his gaze toward the other three standing before him.

"Your existence is an insult to life. You are not protectors of order, but nothing more than harbingers of ruin. Normally, I wouldn't care about that, but since you've decided to bring your destruction to this planet as well, you will naturally pay the price."

As he spoke, Evan casually raised one hand, holding it out in front of him with his palm open.

"But don't worry. Your existence won't be completely wasted. Be happy. You will become part of my power."

His fingers slowly curled into a fist.

The next instant, the three Abyss Gods exploded, leaving behind nothing but three flashes of violet light, which moved toward Evan and were absorbed into him.

The system's messages echoed one after another, but Evan paid them no attention. Instead, his gaze dropped downward, where a pair of dark violet eyes was watching him.

He smiled and gave a small nod in her direction, before vanishing from the spot once more.

He had already sensed Luna's presence nearby, and as much as he wanted to take a moment to reunite with her, now wasn't the time.

He had also noticed the presence of another person there, someone who, now that his memories were no longer sealed away, he recognized, and thanks to his current level, he was able to confirm the bond that tied them together.

It had come as a surprise to him. In none of the past cycles had he ever truly had a living relative. He didn't quite know how to feel about it, but he certainly wasn't going to step away from it. Since this person existed, he intended to seek her out, but only once all of this was finished.

Now that he had made his presence known, the Supreme of the Abyss had almost certainly noticed him as well, which meant it was on its way. And before it arrived, he needed to complete his ascension to supremacy.
