SS Awakening: My Monster Merging System!
Chapter 328: Becoming a Goblin
"Hmm?" Zich’s gaze shifted slightly.
Although the short axe looked extremely old and worn, its blade was forged from some kind of silver gray metal.
Several ancient engravings, already worn down by time, could even be seen on its surface.
It clearly didn’t look like something that goblins dressed in ragged leather armor could easily manufacture.
"These weapons probably weren’t forged by the goblins themselves."
Hearing this, Nadia walked over, took the short axe and examined it carefully for a moment.
A trace of surprise soon appeared on her face.
"These patterns...They look very similar to some of the carvings we saw near the entrance of the ancient tomb." Nadia raised her head.
Zich glanced at the other weapons scattered across the ground.
Most were in equally poor condition. Several blades had chipped edges, while the wooden handles of others were covered in scratches and dark stains.
It was difficult to imagine how many years these weapons had been used.
Yet despite their miserable appearance, they had clearly remained functional enough for the goblins to hunt with.
"If I’m not mistaken, these weapons were probably found somewhere inside the tomb."
"Oh?" Zich’s eyes lit up. "Doesn’t that mean there should be quite a few valuable things deeper inside?"
"Very likely." Nadia nodded.
Upon hearing her answer, the smile on Zich’s face widened.
It seemed that the presence of these goblins wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.
After all, if they had been living inside this ancient tomb for a long time, they were probably already quite familiar with the surrounding environment and the ancient objects scattered throughout the area.
Furthermore, goblins were creatures with an almost instinctive greed for anything shiny or valuable.
In that case, there might actually be quite a few treasures hidden inside their lair!
With this thought, Zich wasted no more time and immediately began searching the corpses on the ground.
The search itself wasn’t particularly pleasant.
The goblins’ belongings were filthy, and several of their leather pouches gave off an unpleasant odor.
Zich occasionally frowned as he rummaged through them, while Nadia maintained a short distance, watching his increasingly dissatisfied expression.
"Having fun?"
"Absolutely," Zich replied without looking up. "I’ve always dreamed of spending my time digging through goblin pockets."
Nadia couldn’t help chuckling, her laugh somehow easing the tension in the air.
After thoroughly searching the nine goblins, the two managed to find three Soul Stones, a bag of strangely scented dried meat, and two well preserved low grade mana potions.
Naturally, these items weren’t particularly valuable, especially the bag of dried meat, which had been made from some unknown magical beast.
After taking a single sniff, Zich put it aside without hesitation.
Nevertheless, he remained in a rather good mood.
After all, judging from the size of this goblin hunting party, there was a strong possibility that a genuine goblin tribe existed nearby.
And since these creatures had managed to collect weapons from the ancient tomb, they naturally wouldn’t have overlooked other valuable items.
"Slimy!"
Accompanied by a faint summoning glow, a blue translucent figure suddenly appeared beside Zich’s feet.
"Bo!"
Slimy cried out excitedly before bouncing upward and landing directly on Zich’s shoulder.
Its round body wobbled gently, as though asking its master whether he had found something delicious to eat.
"Perfect timing. I’ve got something for you to try." Zich smiled.
However, just as he was about to take out the bag of dried meat that neither of them wanted to touch, Slimy suddenly twisted its body on his shoulder.
"Hmm?" Zich lowered his head.
He saw that Slimy’s round eyes were fixed intently on the corpse of the Goblin Shaman lying nearby.
Its originally soft blue body was constantly wriggling, as though it had discovered something that particularly interested it.
Following its gaze, Zich quickly noticed that although the Goblin Shaman was already dead and the bone staff in its hand had long since broken, faint strands of green mana still lingered around its corpse.
"Want to eat that?"
"Bo!" Slimy immediately responded.
"Then go ahead."
Zich didn’t stop it. After all, ever since undergoing the Myriad Beast Baptism, Slimy had acquired the special racial talent known as Devouring Adaptation.
Naturally, the small amount of residual mana remaining on the Goblin Shaman’s corpse shouldn’t pose much of a problem.
Having received its master’s permission, Slimy excitedly jumped down from his shoulder.
Splat!
Its blue translucent body landed on the ground before quickly spreading outward, enveloping the remaining green mana like a mass of soft liquid.
Immediately afterward, tiny green particles of light began separating from the corpse and slowly merging into Slimy’s body.
The entire process went extremely smoothly.
Zich stood nearby and watched without interfering.
However, just as the final strand of green mana completely disappeared, Slimy’s previously wriggling body suddenly stiffened!
"Hmm?" Zich raised an eyebrow when he saw that a faint green tint had unexpectedly appeared across the surface of Slimy’s originally crystal clear blue body.
As that color continued spreading, its round body suddenly underwent a violent transformation!
Buzz!
A strange wave of energy abruptly erupted from within Slimy!
The next moment, its body, which had originally been no larger than a basketball, began rapidly stretching at a speed visible to the naked eye!
"Slimy?"
A trace of surprise flashed through Zich’s eyes.
Before he could understand what was happening, two small legs suddenly extended from the underside of Slimy’s body.
Following that, a pair of arms gradually formed along its sides, while its originally rounded upper body began taking on a different shape.
A head! Ears! A nose! Even two yellowish fangs gradually emerged from the surface of its constantly changing body!
Within a few breaths, the blue slime that had been there moments earlier completely disappeared!
In its place stood a small goblin with green skin, pointed ears, and yellow fangs, its bare feet planted beside the corpse!
