Chapter 40: A search gone too far

With four powerful, scary people surrounding him, his mind could not react fast enough.

-Zap!

He tried casting magic in a panic but it did not activate because of Sammy’s disruption, he tried to move away but there was a sharp dagger right in his face. He looked to his side, and the scary woman that even his father acted respectfully towards in the past few days was still there, watching him with her sword out.

He wanted to scream, but he would be a fool to do it when he could see the barrier right in his face.

"Your panic is valid." Andrew said while caressing the boy’s head. There was no need to use violence against a child. There were few things he could do to begin with.

In fact, he tried all those things that he could think about one by one, starting with starting a sleeping incantation.

It wasn’t the same as the spell. This was a vocal magic, something closer to the powers of Sirens.

It obviously did not work on them, the implant in their ears shut down their hearing function temporarily to protect them from the incantation.

Then he tried using Witchcraft, the power of the witches. It was a power that affected reality directly, but whatever he tried with it, Lily cut his conjurings with a swing of her sword.

Following that, he tried using summoning magic. He must have made contact with a spirit, something that falls under the realm of the fairies, but that failed as well since Beth had deployed an anti-summoning barrier.

Following that, he tried using various powers: the unique natural magical abilities of elves, the power similar to the dragons, he even went as far as replicating the power of demons and divinities, but none of that was useful when he was surrounded by people who were prepared for all that.

Furthermore, his knowledge was still limited.

"Do you know you can still perform summoning even with a barrier in place?" Andrew started speaking to him as if a teacher was speaking to their student. "You just have to designate the range of the barrier and deploy the summon coordinates outside of it."

It wasn’t going to work this time, of course. There was no way to figure out the range of a barrier that was practically covering the entire castle.

"If you had used the demonic power to deal with the barrier first, and then tried using either witchcraft or the incantation, it could have given you a window of opportunity as well."

But then again, the young prince had never had the chance where he could use his powers like that.

"When using the Voice, you must maintain your pitch and tone. If you are off by even a fraction of wavelength, you lose the power’s effects."

He could have mind-controlled any of us if he was using his powers properly. But he still had a long way to go before he could use the Voice that Southern Nuns use.

He had potential to be great at them, at all of these powers. His unique constitution allowed him to use any kind of power as long as he understood them.

He could reproduce the demonic powers, the holy powers, the earthly powers, and the natural powers all with the same body.

His mind was sharp enough to understand the distinction between these powers, but he did not have the experience that he needed to use all of them.

"I want you to come with us, Arcos." He would not be a prince beyond the bounds of this castle. With them, he would be part of the Parliament, a criminal and a lawbreaker.

"If you do choose to come with us, we will teach you all the things you want to know about your special powers." Andrew offered. "My name, sweet child, is Andrew McLore."

The dagger vanished from his hands as he sat back up and with Sammy’s support stood up beside his bed.

At the same time, Lily put away her sword and placed the young boy on a chair right before her standing husband.

"My name is Andrew McLore, I operate one of the best Spy organizations of this world, and as you may have heard, I killed a god to save you. Risked my life, and the life of my people, to save your life. Do you know why?" There was a unique light in his eyes that shook the young prince’s heart in a way that no book, no ancient text, no half-truth of this world had been able to.

"It wasn’t to have you, it wasn’t because we want something from you. You decline our offer and we wipe the memory of each and every person who has ever known us, including the king." He did not address him as his father.

Stating that he could wipe the memory of the Mayn king, the near transcendental person was a testament of their power.

"We did it because it was our duty, because that is what our mission required." He was truthful.

He would have saved him from the god even if he was an ordinary child with no special abilities. And he would have felt much better if that was the case.

But now, he wanted this child not just to secure his future or to teach him, but because he was an useful asset for his plans, for the world that they live in.

"I know you have your doubts. When you were looking through the Myriad records of Illusions, you must have attracted the God of Unsettling Illusions. You weren’t doing anything wrong, but you did not know what you were doing either."

Andrew had figured out what the reason behind his abduction was through the short chat they had after he woke up.

A few questions and hints from seemingly random questions was more than enough to figure out the actions of this child.

He may be smarter than most beings will ever be, but he is still not at the level where he can fight any of the lesser demons, much less the gods or their puppets.
