Space Odyssey: Spectre
Chapter 694: Spectre Galaxy System
"We are just about ready for the start up sequence." Taylor announced as Jace floated in the center of the massive empty space that sat in the center of the gravity shielding station. They had finished work on the station and were now finally activating it after testing all components. A few more notable members of the military and political atmospheres were attending the event.
From the political atmosphere were a few governors he did not know the name of, the speaker of the Governor Assembly and Governor Oceania. Then from MILD was Adrian Hielo, Taylor's father, and Director Fenrir. Apparently Adrian Hielo was representing the galactic business groups that had been set aside. Luckily Jace had not been alone with the man and avoided the idea since he had heard the man was livid about his and Taylor's coupling.
Then there was the military block of the galactic government. Fleet Commander and Admiral Dakota both made an appearance. Along with Salem and a General Isiah who was in charge of most defensive forts and positions. Surprisingly that was it, but it really made sense when he thought about it. The galactic military was not big enough to cover all of their territory. There was plenty of space and systems they had yet to even fully bring order to. So there were parts of space where pirates were on the rise along with systems labeled as wild space.
Jace took a deep breath and reached out. Channeling the massive amount of electricity that he had slowly accumulated. "I am starting the 'jump start' process now. Begin to flood the void space." The void space was the area he was standing and the guests were all standing in the control room and the only room with a view of the area. The void space was completely closed off from the rest of the room, even the hatch he had climbed in from was sealed along with the vents that had removed any form of air or atmosphere that lingered in the room.
Four ports at different parts of the room began to release massive arcs of electricity along with radioactive gasses and a few other minor particles. All a part of the energy that was being produced from the star reactors he had acquired. Unlike any ship or station, this energy was unrefined, usually it would be filtered or stored to be dumped later. But in order for their plan to work, they needed this raw and deadly excess.
Lightning arced through the void space for a moment before all four individual arcs latched onto his armor. He had nothing outside of his armor. Even most of his stored gear was summoned and out of the way for the moment.
He held up his hands and faced the palms together and focused on bringing all of the electricity not just in the room but in his body toward the spot between his palms. The electricity started to gather and glowed blue giving off a slow pulse. Then after a few seconds it started to grow. This process would take at least a few hours. Fortunately it was easy but he could tell it would get difficult to maintain this over time.
"The gravitational anomaly is present and growing. Ladies, Gentlemen, and Binaries. I give you the end to this five year war that we waged against the rest of the universe." Taylor began her speech.
But she was right it had been a few years since he had returned to this galaxy. But it was just over the five year mark in which the first of the daemons and mortella had invaded. It had been a slow burn removing them from the galaxy and even now there were scattered enemy combatants hidden throughout the galaxy. Unknown to them, that would soon change.
"This Gravity Shielding Station will not only project a gravitational barrier around our galaxy to prevent long range surveillance and teleportation. It will also block any warping or traveling method from getting through a barrier that will reside just outside of our galaxy." Taylor began to explain.
"Will there be an effect on anything internal?" Jace could hear a voice ask. The ball of energy was the size of a fist and was starting to turn yellow.
"No, all theories and tests show that it will not have an effect on any form of warp travel or communication inside the galaxy. But communication through the barrier is impossible and so is teleportation and warp travel through it." Taylor explained to them. "Now-"
Beep! Beep! Beep!
The alarms for the station began to go off and Jace grunted as he lost focus for a moment. "Taylor, that is the external alarms." He reminded her.
[Gravitation Device detected. Set the current Galaxy as Home Galaxy? Y/N]
"Yes." He whispered quietly.
[Gravitation Device and Home Galaxy detected. Begin Intergalactic System Installation Process? Y/N]
"Jace! It is the Nano plague swarm, it just warped into the system!" Taylor informed him through his helmet's communication network.
Jace felt a ping in his mind and then blinked as the walls broke down that were keeping the several different parts of his mind partitioned off from each other. A bunch of information entered his mind from what would happen in the next several minutes and what he could do to change it. As well as a flood of engravings he would need to complete the device otherwise it would fail.
The only thing that pulled him back to reality was the feeling of liquid running out of his nose as it began to bleed. He connected to the System wide communication network as he brought his hands outward and began using the lightning and electricity to carve Hexes into the very void space.
"This is Commander Jace Wintry of the Cerberus Unit. All ships are to pull back and the Gravity Shielding Station is to evacuate immediately. None of our personnel are to get between the nano plague and this station." Jace ordered as the hexes began to appear and naturally began to rotate around the ball of electricity as it grew.
Jace, what are you doing? Why would you-
He could feel Salem's thoughts stop as she realized the state of his mind. At this point his body was moving in an automated manner. His muscles and limbs would strain but they would still move through sheer will.
—------------------------------
Jace's mind was another issue altogether. The usual landscape of a prairie with a Ranch House was gone. Instead there were several floating islands that were destroyed and falling apart. On one stood Jace who seemed to be typing on an old computer with a mechanical keyboard. At a different island was a Jace looking at some drawings, but to her the moment she saw the drawings they turned blurry and when she focused for a moment she began to get a headache so she looked away and focused on the third Jace. Who was sitting on a mountain of books and was quickly calling out something that sounded like gibberish to her.
"What in the world?" She asked as she looked around at a few other islands. One was of a tree. Another was part of the porch of the ranch house that was there before. The last was a battlefield with a number of weapons and statutes made of gold. Those statues seemed to be of ancient types of soldiers from Earth.
Then finally there was the island she was on. It seemed to just be a door which symbolized her entering Jace's mind. "Sorry Salem, but I can not give you an explanation. You just need to trust me and find me once it is all done." Jace informed her from the computer.
"I do not know where I will end up. But I know you will be able to find me." The one giving her a headache told her.
"So go now, make sure our people are ready for the change." The last one on a pile of books informed her. Then he seemed to blow air in her direction. But the air changed shape to an odd symbol that flung her back out through the door.
Salem nearly tripped as she came back to the real world. She blinked as she stopped for a moment before quickly chasing after Taylor.
"So?" Taylor asked, she had asked Salem to see why Jace gave the order he did.
"He has a plan. But if I had to guess, he always knew this was going to happen. Are the ships all away from their path to the station?" Salem asked as she looked at the others. They were coming up on their emergency ship they would take away from this station.
"Damn him… if he knew this would happen…" Taylor mumbled.
But Salem stayed quiet as she reached out with her mind and found where the enemy fleet was coming in from. "Come on, Taylor. As soon as we are through the airlock you have to close it."
