Sovereign of the Ashes

Chapter 2035: Daily Experiments

Upon returning to the planetary fortress, Sein found the entire area bustling with activity.

Those coming and going were no longer limited to the creatures of the Kales Pantheon he had subdued.

There were also martial warriors from the Dawn Empire, Insectoids, and even a few native beings of Divine Descendants World.

Sein’s subordinate, the God of Dusk Desire, was indeed quite capable.

After Sein entrusted him with managing parts of his commercial operations, the guy had actually managed to turn them into a thriving business.

He had even established stable trade channels with the Insectoids.

The Insectoids were not nearly as ferocious or mindless as they appeared. In fact, many of them possessed a high degree of intelligence.

However, their absolute loyalty to the Empress of Blades sometimes made them seem rather inflexible.

Their self-contained system also meant that they rarely had much reason to interact deeply with outsiders.

Most of the Insectoids appearing around Sein’s planetary fortress were enormous king insects.

Despite their massive bodies and razor-sharp claws, they were not primarily combat units. Instead, they were responsible for maintaining and operating the Insectoid bases.

Each base typically housed three or four king insects, with each one overseeing a different section.

During wartime, they could also repair damaged portions of the base’s organic walls.

As for exactly how many Insectoid bases were currently scattered across Divine Descendants World, neither Sein nor the Dawn Empire had been able to determine the number with certainty.

There were at least ten thousand, or perhaps even more.

The largest among them were the colossal bases created from law-wielding Insectoid Void Motherships, though there were not many of those.

Most of the Insectoid hives in Divine Descendants World were small or medium-sized bases established by worker insects.

In recent years, Sein had also spent some time studying how these bases developed and evolved.

Around the docking area of his planetary fortress alone, there were three small Insectoid bases and one medium-sized base.

The king insects visiting the trading market inside Sein’s planetary fortress had mainly come to sell their goods.

The Insectoids could digest nearly any form of flesh and blood. Even the trace elements found in ores and metals could be fully absorbed by their bodies.

Weapons, equipment, divine artifacts, and other creations seized from the enemy were another matter. Having lower-tier Insectoids simply devour such valuable items would be far too wasteful.

The Insectoids rarely relied on weapons in battle. Their bodies and claws were already their most effective tools of war.

Therefore, whenever they captured weapons from Divine Descendants World or equipment left behind by Myriad Manifestations World, the king insects stationed at each base would first assess their value.

Anything deemed worthless would be melted down inside the hive’s digestive chambers. The more valuable items would be transported to a nearby trading market and sold.

Sein was not the only one doing business with the Insectoids.

The Arriba Interstellar Chamber of Commerce had moved just as quickly.

In recent years, even the Dawn Empire had begun establishing direct trade with them.

Still, Sein could tell that the Insectoids surrounding his planetary fortress viewed him rather favorably.

The Arriba Interstellar Chamber of Commerce had also established trading posts and equipment recycling hubs nearby, yet the king insects still preferred bringing their goods to Sein.

At that moment, several king insects were making their way leisurely through the planetary fortress, accompanied by a large group of Blattans and several Host Bugs with enormous storage capacity.

Behind them, the Blattans dragged the bow of a massive Gallant Federation destroyer. It was clearly being brought over for sale.

Obvious signs of corrosion covered the point where the bow had been severed from the rest of the vessel.

Most of the destroyer had probably already been digested by an Insectoid base. Only the bow remained.

Perhaps it had been made from some unusual material, or perhaps the king insects had simply judged it to be more valuable than the rest of the ship.

With only a casual glance, Sein’s Faceless Mask detected that the heavily damaged bow still contained an attack system capable of releasing Rank Four energy fluctuations.

Sein had no intention of involving himself in the transaction. He trusted the God of Dusk Desire to handle such matters properly.

Upon returning to the laboratory, Sein was greeted by Yuri, who informed him that all the experimental tools had already been prepared.

“Fermera hasn’t returned yet. She’s currently fighting in the Howling Mountains,” Yuri said.

While Sein remained in the rear conducting experiments, someone still had to brave the dangers of the frontlines on his behalf.

Fermera was not the only one still fighting. Sein’s good friend, Gongsun Wudi, was also on the frontlines.

It had been quite some time since Sein had last seen her.

The Howling Mountains were one of the few remaining battle zones in Divine Descendants World where the enemy was still putting up fierce resistance.

If the entire world were divided into ten parts, more than eight had already fallen under the complete control of the Magus Civilization’s forces.

The surviving natives of Divine Descendants World and the remnants of Myriad Manifestations World had been pushed back into a territory covering little more than one-tenth of the plane.

During the half-year Sein spent roaming and hunting near the navel of the plane, he had not encountered a single hostile Rank Four creature.

They had all been wiped out.

Sein nodded and handed the alicorn in his grasp to Yuri.

After changing out of his magic robe and into a white laboratory coat, he immediately returned to his experiments.

His next task was to purify the overlord blood and test its effects when used together with the Blood Crystals.

***

Fooom!

A brilliant blue flame rose from Sein’s body inside the laboratory.

Ever since he absorbed the deep-blue fire seed given to him by Enrique Gustavo, his flames had gained greater stability and a faint suppressive quality.

The moment Sein ingested the purified overlord blood, an immense surge of elemental energy erupted within him.

At the same time, the powerful blood energy released by the top-grade Blood Crystals continuously nourished his flesh and bones.

The sensation was intoxicating.

His elemental power and constitution were improving together, slowly transforming him from within.

Given the nature of Sein’s elemental laws, he should not have been able to make such noticeable progress in only a few short years.

His current growth was entirely the result of powerful external forces pushing him forward.

Outside the laboratory’s semi-transparent energy chamber, Yuri watched Sein’s transformation with a look of rapture.

As long as she could remain by his side and watch over him, Yuri felt deeply content.

Whenever one of Sein’s experiments succeeded, or whenever his elemental energy and constitution improved, she felt even happier than she did over her own growth!

Beside her, the Burning Flame Unit stood quietly, observing the scene inside the laboratory.

Although she possessed highly advanced artificial intelligence, she still could not understand her master’s strange emotions.
