Sovereign of the Ashes
Chapter 1989: Shadow of Death
The towering, colossal figure of Fermont the Deathspawn gradually loomed over Divine Descendants World.
Moments earlier, while the Empress of Blades had been casually exchanging a few words with the Dawn Emperor, Overgod Marduk, who remained on the battlefield below, had naturally noticed everything.
She had not rushed to attack Divine Descendants World.
Yet from the moment she made her move, she had already displayed overwhelming superiority over the Divine Descendant Overgod.
The heavily injured Marduk did not have the courage to flee his own homeplane.
How could such a terrifying existence exist in the Astral Realm?
Having never left the Divine Descendants Star Domain, this was most likely Marduk’s first time encountering a Rank Eight overlord.
Although he had previously been subdued and recruited by the Gallant Federation, the federation had only deployed its peerless, magnificent overlord-class fleet back then.
After recognizing the reality of the situation, the Divine Descendant Overgod had ultimately chosen to join the Gallant Federation’s camp.
He knew that trying to survive alone in the Astral Realm was simply not feasible.
The Astral Realm was filled with strange lifeforms and terrifying ancient entities beyond imagination.
Fermont the Deathspawn alone was already an existence the Divine Descendants’ Overgod could not handle.
And at that moment, perched atop Fermont’s head was an even more powerful and terrifying Insectoid Queen!
As Fermont plunged into Divine Descendants World, its sturdy planar barrier scraped violently against its colossal body, erupting into waves of colorful law flames.
For an ordinary Rank Seven overlord, entering a large-sized plane would inevitably be an arduous process. And against a peak Rank Seven Overgod with an Ark in his possession, one who could draw upon the faith of an entire world to defend himself, even breaking through the planar barrier might prove impossible.
Yet nothing could stop Fermont’s advance!
Atop the highest peak of Divine Descendants World, which also served as Marduk’s divine seat, the peak Rank Seven Overgod spread his arms wide and called out to the believers across the entire world.
“My people, your god needs your faith.”
Countless beings throughout Divine Descendants World, numbering in the billions and trillions, heard the divine voice.
Overcome with emotion, they fell to their knees and prostrated themselves upon the ground, offering their deepest devotion to the supreme deity they had worshipped for generations.
Tiny specks of white light gathered together, forming a vast river that ultimately poured into Marduk at the center of the plane.
Marduk then transformed that light into divine power and channeled it into the colossal construct in the sky.
The Ark’s azure crystal walls became even more solid and radiant.
Then...
BOOM!
A deafening roar echoed through the air.
Fermont’s descent encountered almost no resistance.
The once-solid, smooth crystalline barrier began to bulge more and more as Fermont sank downward. Piercing sonic booms echoed across the skies of the world.
Countless beings who had been prostrating themselves in obedience to Marduk’s oracle looked up in terror at the monstrous entity descending from above.
With their limited understanding and low level of existence, they could not even begin to imagine what that dark, colossal shadow looming over their homeplane truly was.
“The end is here! Gods, save us!”
At that moment, hundreds of millions of believers throughout the Divine Descendants World wailed in despair, pleading for their gods to grant them salvation.
However, even the Rank Four and Rank Five beings of Divine Descendants World, whom these inferior creatures regarded as “gods”, were frozen in shock under the barrier.
If even an Overgod, wielding the faith power of an entire plane, could not stop the descent of this terrifying creature, what could they possibly use to block it?
Veins bulged across Marduk’s face as much of the pressure bearing down on the Ark’s crystalline barrier of laws was transmitted directly to him.
As the vast barrier of laws caved inward, Marduk finally witnessed the terrifying might of the overlord beyond the plane.
But what filled him with even greater fear, perhaps even despair, was not Fermont.
It was the Empress of Blades.
From beginning to end, she had not lifted a finger.
She simply stood atop Fermont’s head, arms crossed, quietly watching as the planar barrier of Divine Descendants World, the Ark’s crystalline wall, and the DF field provided by the Gallant Federation slowly twisted and warped beneath Fermont’s crushing force.
They were being stretched to their absolute limit.
“NO!” Marduk roared.
He had endured countless hardships over the years to reach this point. How much had he sacrificed just to survive?
How could he possibly fall here today?!
“God needs your power!”
Marduk once again used his divine power to broadcast his voice across the entire world.
Another surge of faith, even stronger than before, poured in from every corner of the plane.
Presumably, the countless beings of this world had also felt fear at the pitch-black shadow appearing in the sky.
In the eyes of those lower lifeforms, only a god could save them. Because of that, the faith they channeled toward Marduk became even purer.
“Heh, interesting. He even knows how to use power like this.”
The Empress of Blades gazed down at the barrier of Divine Descendants World as it constantly wavered between reality and illusion, then let out a soft chuckle.
This Divine Descendant Overgod’s abilities were truly diverse. He seemed to have a little bit of everything...
A true jack-of-all-trades!
The Empress of Blades had only just arrived on this battlefield. At first, she had assumed he was merely an ordinary peak Rank Seven being. She had not expected him to display such unique abilities.
Mobilizing the life force of an entire plane to mount a defense... That was indeed quite interesting.
Overgod Marduk had his followers and subjects supporting him, but Fermont the Deathspawn and the Empress of Blades also had the Insectoids under their command!
The Empress of Blades still had not made a direct move. In fact, from beginning to end, she had not even revealed her weapon, let alone assumed a combat stance.
When her red-scaled right hand lightly pressed against Fermont’s back, the fully awakened creature instantly felt the boundless power of the insect swarm.
At that moment, every Insectoid let out a deafening roar.
Fermont’s originally luminous white eyes gradually turned a deep crimson.
Now driven into a frenzy, Fermont drove downward once more, its resolve unwavering and its speed undiminished.
This time, Marduk was powerless to stop it.
As Fermont relentlessly charged into Divine Descendants World, its immense size and terrifying mass created gravitational disturbances that affected dozens of nearby low-level and microplanes.
Many planes were forcibly shifted from their original coordinates.
The last being to cause such an extreme phenomenon was Kun, the colossal fish from the Immortal Realm who had arrived on the Magus Civilization battlefield not long ago.
In terms of sheer size, Fermont seemed comparable to Kun.
However, one seemed lifeless, while the other overflowed with vitality.
Still, both of them still had the potential to grow even larger.
Whether these two colossal beings would create something extraordinary when they eventually met remained to be seen.
On this battlefield, sparks had already begun to fly.
CRACK!
The planar barrier of Divine Descendants World was finally shattered by Fermont the Deathspawn!
In that very instant, the Ark’s deep-blue crystalline barrier broke as well, scattering into countless crystalline fragments.
Overgod Marduk violently spat out a mouthful of overlord blood.
Precious divine blood splattered across the pristine white jade floor of the Overgod Temple.
As it slowly spread through the hall, the stench of blood seemed to permeate the entire Divine Descendants World.
Destruction, slaughter, and devastation descended upon this large-sized world, which had enjoyed peace for countless years.
Although conflicts and invasions among the divine factions within Divine Descendants Star Domain had been constant over the past several hundred thousand years, this was the first time Divine Descendants World had ever suffered an invasion from an external enemy!
As Fermont descended into Divine Descendants World, the remaining planar barrier and shockwaves caused layers of orange-yellow flames to flare across its body.
It was during this process that umbilical cords began emerging from Fermont’s body. Even its taut dead skin started to split open, forming countless fissures.
From those fissures, endless swarms of insects surged forth in a seething mass.
They descended into Divine Descendants World alongside Fermont like a pitch-black shadow, then swept across the large-sized plane like a surging tide!
