Sovereign of the Ashes

Chapter 1987: Empress of Blades

  • Next Chapter

Atop the head of Fermont the Deathspawn, a figure clad in bright red imperial armor slowly materialized upon a thick carpet of Insectoid slime.

Standing closely behind the Empress was a Bladeist who served as her bodyguard.

This Bladeist also possessed overlord-level strength. In fact, he was even slightly stronger than the overlord-level Bladeist currently battling Venerable Tianyang.

“What a vast and bountiful star domain. It seems my sister has assigned me a fine place,” the Empress of Blades stroked her chin, gazing at the distant interstellar battlefield with a faint smile. “And Wuji is here too. I heard he now has a little sister?”

The incredibly grand and perilous Clash of Civilizations unfolding throughout this star domain did not seem particularly special in the eyes of the Empress of Blades.

It was no wonder. This being was a powerhouse standing at the very pinnacle of Rank Eight, powerful enough to go head-to-head with Venerable Weiwu of Myriad Manifestations World.

Before she led the Insectoids here, the Divine Descendants Star Domain had not even seen any Rank Eight battles. At most, it had only been a chaotic melee among several Rank Seven overlords.

But with the arrival of the Insectoids, both Fermont the Deathspawn and the Empress of Blades herself possessed Rank Eight combat prowess!

And within the Rank Eight tier, neither of them was someone to be taken lightly.

The intervention of powerhouses of this caliber was undoubtedly a disaster for the Gallant Federation, Divine Descendants World, and Myriad Manifestations World.

Behind the Empress, the Bladeist followed her every step in silence with his head respectfully lowered.

These Bladeists were the Empress’ most trusted guards. They never acted on their own initiative, but instead carried out Her Majesty’s orders with absolute loyalty.

The Empress of Blades did not seem interested in dragging out the war in the Divine Descendants Star Domain any longer.

She glanced toward the direction of Divine Descendants World and ordered, “Go help the Swiftling King and the others. Do not let those two venerables from Myriad Manifestations World escape!”

“Venerable Weiwu had a little feud with my father back then. I can’t go after him directly right now, but killing two venerables from his world should count as charging him a little interest.”

The Empress of Blades chuckled darkly to herself and continued, “If those two venerables suddenly perish here, I would like to see whether Venerable Weiwu can still keep his composure. How dare they meddle in the Magus Civilization’s war? Do they have a death wish?”

“If they had kept hiding the coordinates of their homeplane and star domain so carefully, Myriad Manifestations World’s downfall might have been delayed a little longer,” she said coldly.

True to her title as the ruler of the Insectoids, the Empress of Blades showed not the slightest respect in her words toward Myriad Manifestations World, which was beginning to take the shape of a top-tier civilization, or toward Venerable Weiwu himself.

All she displayed was boundless murderous intent and a domineering presence that looked down on everything.

The overlord-level Bladeist kneeled on one knee and replied, “Yes!”

He then flew straight toward the battlefield where the Swiftling King and the others were fighting.

With this even stronger overlord-level Bladeist joining the fray, the two venerables of the Myriad Manifestations World were now facing six opponents!

At that moment, the two venerables finally sensed the threat of death.

As for the Empress of Blades herself, she did not join the assault against them.

There was already more than enough combat power on that side. Gustavo and the two Bladeists were by no means weak.

Clad in red armor, the Empress of Blades gently pressed her left hand against the carpet of slime beneath her feet.

A unique fluctuation of laws rippled outward. In that instant, the swarm erupted into a frenzy.

Billions of insects, as if injected with adrenaline, unleashed combat power and ferocity far beyond what they had shown before.

At the same time, Fermont the Deathspawn, who was beneath the Empress of Blades’ feet, finally awoke from its slumber!

This massive creature really was something else.

Not even the violent passage through a spacetime wormhole, accompanied by intense shocks of law energy, had been enough to rouse Fermont.

Yet with just a gentle press of the Empress of Blades’ hand, it actually woke up.

As Fermont gradually stirred, rows of luminous eyes began to glow on both sides of his body.

Each of those luminous eyes was one of his secondary eyes.

Even a law-wielding creature, when suddenly faced with such a colossal beast charging toward them with countless glowing eyes, would likely feel a chill of fear.

Sure enough, as Fermont the Deathspawn awoke, the Myriad Manifestations World legions, already under heavy assault from the Insectoid army, quickly began to collapse.

The first to crumble and lose their will to fight were not the low-ranking cannon fodder. Surprisingly, it was the law-wielding powerhouses!

These law-wielding beings were not blind. With the arrival of the Insectoids, six overlord-level forces were now besieging their own overlords. And terrifying entities like the Empress of Blades and Fermont the Deathspawn had yet to even make a move.

Was there any chance of victory left in this war?

If they did not flee now, the only fate awaiting them might well be complete annihilation!

Myriad Manifestations World was invincible within its own star domain and considered itself to have already taken the shape of a top-tier civilization.

In reality, however, this large-sized world had yet to encounter a truly formidable opponent. The bearing of the law-wielding powerhouses born within Myriad Manifestations World was far inferior to that of the Magus Civilization and the Gallant Federation, both of which possessed far deeper foundations.

The Rank Four beings were the first to collapse and lose all will to fight. From there, the panic gradually spread to the lower-tier legions of Myriad Manifestations World.

At that moment, the Insectoids showed no mercy to the beings of Myriad Manifestations World.

The Insectoids were a race that rarely acted on personal emotion. In some respects, they could even rival the mindless robots under Sein’s command!

Those ferocious creatures pounced without hesitation on any enemy who turned to flee, tearing through their flesh, gnawing on their bones, and finally returning crystal cores and high-quality flesh within their bodies to the hive.

This was an extremely disciplined collective race.

Starting with the secondary eyes on both sides of Fermont’s body, followed by the primary eyes on its head, they lit up one after another.

Upon awakening, Fermont let out a deep, muffled roar. Then, slender pitch-black tentacles began extending from all around its body.

A thick tide of death began to radiate in every direction.

From a distance, Fermont appeared even larger and more terrifying than before.

This was a creature born to instill despair in all sentient beings.

Who could possibly subdue such a monster from the Astral Realm?!

With one foot planted on Fermont’s head, the Empress of Blades stood majestically in her bright red armor as they barged right into the Divine Descendants World nearby.

Given Fermont’s colossal size, the word “barge” was indeed the most fitting way to describe its descent upon Divine Descendants World.

Azure energy barriers materialized one after another on the surface of Divine Descendants World, merging with the planar barrier of this large-sized world.

This was power drawn from the Ark.

As for Overgod Marduk, who had previously lost his mind and attacked his own allies from Myriad Manifestations World, he did not need much imagination to understand what would happen if he allowed these two terrifying Rank Eight god slayers to enter his homeplane!

At this point, even if Marduk wanted to flee his home star domain, it was already too late!

How could the Empress of Blades possibly allow her prey to escape?

Moreover, Her Majesty the Empress seemed to have set her sights on Marduk’s treasure.

Surging beams of energy shot out from within Divine Descendants World one after another, striking Fermont the Deathspawn.

These beams all came from the Gallant Federation’s apocalyptical weapons.

Originally, those weapons had been meant to target Dawn Emperor Gongsun Wuji and his legions.

Clearly, the federal legions no longer had the luxury to worry about that.

The powerful beams from the apocalyptical weapons ultimately struck Fermont, yet all they managed to do was blast away large patches of scales from its body.

Even when some of the scales were knocked loose or flipped outward, countless special insects quickly rushed forward, fearlessly approaching the wounded areas of Fermont’s body.

These small, translucent insects looked somewhat slimy from a distance. They were not capable of taking the attacks in Fermont’s place.

Their main purpose was to help Fermont heal his wounds as quickly as possible, minimizing the loss of his necromantic energy.

The symbiotic relationship between the Insectoids and Fermont was clearly displayed in this regard.

The Empress of Blades paid no attention to the Gallant Federation’s apocalyptical weapons as they began focusing their fire on her. She did not even spare Overgod Marduk, a peak Rank Seven Divine Descendant, a second glance.

With her arms crossed, she stood atop Fermont’s head as they steadily advanced toward Divine Descendants World.

The only person the Empress of Blades turned to look at was Dawn Emperor Gongsun Wuji, who had fought Marduk outside Divine Descendants World.

She smiled and said, “It’s been a long time, little brother.”

A deeply emotional look appeared on Gongsun Wuji’s face.

“Second Sister...”
