Sovereign of the Ashes
Chapter 1984: The Arrival of the Swarm
A dense network of wormholes appeared throughout the Divine Descendants Star Domain.
They could be seen both within and beyond the star domain.
The clash between the Magus Civilization and the Gallant Federation had not only shattered the former peace of the Divine Descendants Star Domain, but also made its spatial power incredibly fragile.
The Boundary Rocks had been struck and damaged repeatedly, making it even more difficult for the Divine Descendants Star Domain to withstand forced spatial incursions from powerful beings of distant realms.
The reason the Myriad Manifestations World legions had not teleported directly into the Divine Descendants Star Domain before was that they were unfamiliar with this star domain and lacked suitable teleportation nodes.
However, this newly arrived force had clearly locked onto the interstellar coordinates of the Divine Descendants Star Domain!
The pitch-black wormholes were oppressive and intimidating.
Within that abyss of darkness, arcs of blue-violet and dark red light occasionally flashed, eerie and mysterious.
Rustling sounds gradually escaped from the black holes, growing louder and louder.
It sounded like the stampede of ten thousand beasts, or like a terrifying tidal wave that was about to come crashing down.
Amidst a series of roaring cries, a massive black shadow soon appeared.
Just as the creatures near the black holes tried to get a clearer look at what it was, a terrifying Thunderling of immense size became the first to squeeze out of the wormhole.
The moment it appeared, its two sharp fangs and the bone blades lining its flanks announced its ferocity and bloodthirst.
This was a true war machine!
The dragons of Magus World were also majestic and powerful, but they gave off a completely different impression from this Thunderling.
Its crimson eyes locked straight ahead.
Upon arriving on this astral battlefield, the Thunderling king immediately charged toward the nearest Myriad Manifestations World legion.
The moment it burst out of the wormhole, swarms of Winged Drakons as dense as dark clouds soared overhead, beating their wings powerfully.
These Winged Drakons had a very peculiar appearance. Although their species name sounded similar to dragons, they did not seem to possess much of the bloodline aura typical of dragon-type creatures.
Their massive bodies were long and narrow, and at the ends of their tails were inverted triangular bony mouthparts.
Dark yellow spheres of energy shot out like projectiles from the bone weapons of the Winged Drakon swarms.
Near the wormholes, many massive ships and wooden vessels from Myriad Manifestations World had been unable to evade in time.
As the Winged Drakon swarms swept in like a tidal wave, those legions from Myriad Manifestations World met their end almost instantly.
This was far from the full extent of the forces pouring out of the wormholes.
Suicidal bone-winged insects, higher-tier Winged Drakon Kings, and all sorts of other units appeared one after another. The sheer variety was enough to make one’s head spin.
At the feet of the charging Thunderlings was an even denser swarm of complex units. Swiftlings, Barbed Viperas, and Suicidal Beetles... There were so many of them that they seemed to stretch on without end.
“Insectoids?!”
A voice filled with terror rang out from some unknown corner of Myriad Manifestations World’s forces.
As a large-sized plane with the potential to become a top-tier civilization, Myriad Manifestations World clearly had a strong background of its own. At the very least, it had come into contact with many civilizations throughout the Astral Realm.
There were indeed many insectoid planes in the Astral Realm, and the countless swarms pouring out of the wormholes certainly fit the definition of Insectoids!
The only difference was that these Insectoids were far too massive. Furthermore, the evolutionary level of some individuals had already exceeded the limits of common understanding.
Take the Thunderlings, for example. Their bodies were often hundreds, or even thousands, of meters long. What sane creature would associate something like that with an insect?!
The same went for the Winged Drakon Kings who had evolved to the pinnacle of their species. At the same level, these Winged Drakon Kings were likely even more formidable than the most pure-blooded dragons!
The first Insectoids to burst out of the wormholes were all higher-ranking creatures, generally around Rank Two or Rank Three.
The law-wielding Insectoid powerhouses scattered throughout the endless sea of insects further highlighted the immense foundation of the Insectoid race.
However, what truly inspired fear and dread was not only their strength, but also their terrifying numbers and war potential.
In addition to those higher-ranking swarm creatures, enormous mother insects began pouring out one after another once the wormholes opened.
These mother insects gave off a feeling somewhat similar to the biological warships of the Black Merlot Civilization that Sein had previously explored.
In fact, their role was indeed to serve as transport vessels for the endless swarm.
Large numbers of mother insects flew toward the nearest planes.
As the mother insects approached the various planar battlefields, the chambers beneath their bodies opened, and vast swarms of lower-ranking Insectoids surged out with deafening cries.
From a distance, it looked like wave after wave of pitch-black tide sweeping across the entire planar battlefield.
A swarm of insects surged forward!
The entire starry sky was shrouded in an oppressive, suffocating atmosphere!
As the terrifying Insectoid swarm descended upon the battlefield, dozens of colossal Insectoid Void Motherships slowly emerged from the wormholes.
As a once-important member of the Magus Alliance, the Insectoids had left the territory of the Magus Civilization to explore distant star domains in search of precious Tide Crystal ore. During that time, they had clearly come across fortuitous encounters of their own.
These Insectoid Void Motherships were the new creations they had now unveiled to the Magus Civilization.
Furthermore, the far more diverse array of Insectoid combat units compared to the past showed that this race, which possessed immense potential, had never stopped evolving and developing.
However, this fleet of Void Motherships did not represent the full extent of the Insectoids’ power. It seemed to be merely the vanguard.
After all the mothership fleets emerged from the wormholes, the battlefield fell into a brief, oppressive silence.
Then, immediately afterward, an enormous, grotesque, and terrifying colossus of death slowly squeezed its way out of the wormhole!
A pitch-black shadow of death instantly engulfed the entire battlefield of the Divine Descendants Star Domain.
All beings still engaged in combat, including those keenly perceptive overlord-level creatures, could not help but look in horror toward the source of that necromantic energy.
“A Rank Eight being?!” Venerable Muge exclaimed in astonishment.
“And not just any Rank Eight being. With law fluctuations of this magnitude... only Venerable Weiwu, the strongest being of our world, could suppress it. Even Venerable Haiyun would likely be unable to do so,” Venerable Tianyang said gravely.
Myriad Manifestations World currently had two Rank Eight venerables—Venerable Weiwu, who had just reached the peak of Rank Eight, and Venerable Haiyun, whose strength was around the early to mid-stage Rank Eight.
Although both were Rank Eight, the gap between them was still quite significant.
Due to its immense size, this terrifying colossus of death was temporarily unable to force its way fully through the wormhole.
Numerous fleshy and bloody umbilical cords were scattered around its body, and dense swarms of insects could be seen pouring out from within them.
But the shock this terrifying death colossus brought to the overlords of this star domain went far beyond that!
They had originally thought that the arrival of a single Rank Eight creature of unknown origin was already shocking enough.
However, Venerable Tianyang soon sensed the fluctuations of special laws. When he realized what was happening, his expression changed dramatically.
“This is bad! It’s not just one overlord descending. There are several of them!” the late-stage Rank Seven overlord exclaimed in shock. “There’s another presence... one even more formidable than this monster!”
At the same time, deep within the body of that terrifying colossus of death, a Bladeist radiating distinct overlord-level power fluctuations appeared before a throne and kneeled on one knee.
With great reverence, he addressed the being seated upon it.
“Your Majesty, we have arrived in the Divine Descendants Star Domain.”
The being on the throne had fair skin and a flawless figure.
Her sharp, crimson nails tapped lightly against the armrest of the throne as she replied, “Mm. Got it.”
