Sovereign of the Ashes
Chapter 1935: The God of Scorching Wind
“Why did they surrender so quickly?!” Three-star General Davis growled outside the Kales Star Domain.
He was one of the federal generals dispatched under Marshal Schmain’s direct orders to reinforce Divine Descendants World.
Although the fierce fighting on the frontlines had forced Marshal Schmain to lead his overlord-class fleet there in support of the battle against the Magus Civilization, the Gallant Federation had still dispatched a large number of mid and lower-tier combat legions as scheduled to support the rear front at Divine Descendants World.
Originally, Davis had been heading straight for the Divine Descendants Star Domain to join the battle. He had heard that the Magus Civilization’s vassal legions had already clashed with the native species of Divine Descendants World.
However, while en route, General Davis received an urgent order from rear headquarters and immediately changed course. He led his fleet, along with several other federal generals, toward the outskirts of the Kales Star Domain at full speed.
General Davis believed he had already moved as quickly as possible.
But no matter how quickly he rushed over, he still could not match the speed at which the Kales Pantheon surrendered.
Thinking of this, General Davis could not help but curse under his breath again.
The surrender of the God of Black Mist and the others had a major impact on General Davis and his forces.
Originally, they could have coordinated an assault from both inside and outside the star domain. Now, however, they were left to fight alone.
What should have been a simple reinforcement mission had turned into a full-scale offensive!
The Kales Star Domain held a vast amount of the Gallant Federation’s assets and also served as a border star domain of Divine Descendants World. Now that it had changed hands, General Davis and the other federal generals could not simply ignore it.
The only good news was that the Magus Civilization’s legions had only recently conquered the Kales Star Domain. Some microplanes and resource demiplanes had not even been garrisoned yet.
This made it much easier for General Davis and his forces to launch an offensive against the Kales Star Domain.
“General, a Rank Four being calling himself the God of Scorching Wind has entered our fleet’s firing range and is sending us a distress signal. He is being pursued by a high-level entity. Our scans indicate that the pursuer’s power level is Rank Six. Should we intervene?” an aide asked, appearing at Davis’ side.
A real-time star chart immediately appeared before Davis, allowing him to see the situation up ahead.
“Oh? So not all the native Rank Four creatures in this star domain have surrendered yet?” Davis mumbled to himself, then ordered his fleet to prepare for battle.
As a Three-star federal general, Davis commanded a fleet with overall combat strength at the late stage of Rank Six.
However, in a technologically advanced civilization like the Gallant Federation, the combat effectiveness of mobile suits was relatively easy to assess, while the strength of an entire fleet required a more comprehensive evaluation.
Among the federal generals sent to reinforce the Kales Star Domain, aside from Davis, there was also another Two-star general named Kent, who commanded a mobile suit legion.
As for lieutenant generals and major generals, there were several dozen of them in total.
In terms of Rank Four and above combat strength, this group of federation reinforcements had more than ten units capable of fighting at the Rank Four or Rank Five level.
Before long, General Kent’s holographic image appeared before Davis, who was already prepared for battle.
“Howdy, partner. Shall I deploy the Boundary Breakers?” he asked.
The Boundary Breaker mobile suits were General Kent’s trump card, with combined combat strength reaching mid-stage Rank Six.
Since federal mobile suits were usually piloted by two people through neural linkage, the pilots of the Boundary Breaker were, in fact, two federal lieutenant generals.
“No need. Activate the Black Death Particle Beams! We will repel that Rank Six creature from the Magus Civilization first, then get the native Rank Four creature from the Kales Star Domain to come over so we can assess the situation,” Davis said.
Pew! Pew!
Two pitch-black beams of oppressive particle energy sliced through the starry sky one after another.
Those two energy beams alone carried a threat level comparable to late-stage Rank Six.
And that was not all. Aside from these two main attacks, the massive federal war fleet almost instantly unleashed a relentless barrage upon the starfield battlefield ahead.
Not every attack from the federal fleet posed a direct threat to law-wielding beings.
However, faced with such a dense storm of energy blasts, law-powered weapons, and missile strikes, any Rank Four being with weak mental fortitude would probably wet themselves on the spot.
At that moment, the God of Scorching Wind from the Kales Pantheon was indeed feeling rather panicked.
Speaking of which, the whole situation was quite dramatic.
The God of Scorching Wind had originally been fighting the God of Dusk Desire, one of Sein’s subordinates, on the battlefield of a low-level plane.
The God of Dusk Desire was quite skilled at interstellar trade, but asking him to fight was another matter entirely.
Because of that, the God of Scorching Wind, who had also only recently advanced to Rank Four, was actually able to hold his own against the God of Dusk Desire at first. He even gained a slight upper hand.
However, his advantage did not last long.
Soon after, he suddenly heard that his homeplane, Black Mist World, had come under attack by two Rank Six beings.
The God of Scorching Wind hesitated for barely a moment before turning around and deciding to break through the encirclement.
As he had previously discussed with the God of Black Mist, they would simply go through the motions on the civilizational battlefield. They would put up some token resistance so they did not look too pathetic. Even if they eventually fled the battlefield, the Gallant Federation would not do anything to them.
What left the God of Scorching Wind utterly speechless, however, was that just as he successfully broke through the encirclement and used his superior aero and pyro elemental laws to put some distance between himself and the enemy, he suddenly received news that the God of Black Mist and the others had surrendered!
...Damn it. During our earlier meeting, the God of Black Mist had never even mentioned “surrender” as an option!
In retrospect, the God of Scorching Wind realized that the God of Black Mist’s decision actually made sense.
With two hostile Rank Six combatants targeting Black Mist World, even if the God of Black Mist and his group wanted to break through and escape, that would depend on whether the enemy was willing to let them go.
Since they could not win and could not escape, surrender was the only option left.
The God of Scorching Wind was also unwilling to leave his homeland and abandon his home star domain.
Just as he was considering whether to stop, turn back, and surrender to the Magus Civilization’s legions, Belphane had already heard that he had broken through the encirclement and charged out of the Black Mist World.
On this star domain battlefield, Belphane looked like a true goddess of slaughter!
Her body was still dripping with the God of Ironwood’s thick blood and milky-white brain matter.
The God of Ironwood was, after all, a Rank Four being who wielded both metal and wood divine laws.
With the resilience of the metal element and the recovery abilities of the wood element, this Rank Four being should have been extremely difficult to kill.
Yet in the face of absolute force, the God of Ironwood had not even managed to put up a proper fight before Belphane reduced him to a pile of bloody pulp.
This was likely the very scene the God of Black Mist and the other deities had witnessed, prompting them to surrender to the Magus Civilization without hesitation.
Whether it was the Gallant Federation or the Magus Civilization, both sides punished traitors and those who surrendered to the enemy with the greatest severity. Their hatred for such people even surpassed their hatred for each other’s legions.
Years ago, after the Grand Eye Demon World betrayed the Magus Civilization, the Magus Civilization mobilized its superior forces and completely annihilated it, slaughtering almost every living being in the Eye Demon Star Domain!
Similarly, in recent years, the Gallant Federation had also dealt with several subordinate planes and planets that had betrayed and surrendered. Like Magus World, they had nearly wiped out every traitor.
Because of this, unless they were left with no other choice or tempted by overwhelming benefits, the vassal planes and subordinate deities of both civilizations generally would not surrender.
Belphane gave chase, drenched in divine blood. Traces of the God of Ironwood’s brain matter still clung to the two maces in her hands.
The sight terrified the God of Scorching Wind so much that any thought of surrender vanished instantly.
He probably would not even have time to speak before Belphane smashed him to death!
He had no choice but to keep running.
Fortunately, he had not gone far before he sensed the arrival of reinforcements from the Gallant Federation.
However, the terrifying firepower unleashed by the Gallant Federation fleet in that single instant once again dealt a heavy blow to the God of Scorching Wind’s already fragile mind.
